Sharon doing her part to clean up the environment!
Cruisers were busy on the weekend, with two shifts running from the Centre Saturday, due to the error of Bobtheolderchap mis-stating the time of departure, which should have been the usual 8.00 am instead of 8.30 am typed into the newsletter. Gina, Larry and Bob set off at 8.00 am to Burnaby Lake via Cameron Street to Beaverbrook, south to Government Street then into the north trail to the Rugby Clubhouse, returning via the same route; time for Gina and Larry, time about 1.45, and Bob a longer time, distance 13 k. The trio met Laurie Hilborn who was running solo on the north trail. Joe Turtle of the Eileen Dailly running group ran from his home at Edinburgh and Gilmore Avenue to the Centre, for an 8.30 am start, met up with Stormin’ Lum enroute on Greystone. The two ran to the area of the Burnaby North Secondary School and returned to Cameron Centre. Total distance for Joe, 28 km, for Norman, 15 km. Edie and Sharon Kelly also met at 8.30 for a 15 km return trip to the Burnaby North Secondary School vicinity also. My face is red for the goof of 8.30. My apologies to all. Joe handled the situation with great diplomacy, and humour, telling the undersigned and I quote: “If ya don’t want me ta run with you, just tell me!” End of quote. In any event, Joe and Norman had a great run. It was great also to see Rainy Kent and her mum Lorraine Kent who came to pick Joe up after his run. Rainy is suffering a hamstring injury arising from the Elk Lake Saanich 50 k run last Saturday.
Carla ran solo a 21 k training run Saturday.
Rod volunteered for the Great Salmon Send-Off Saturday at the Stoney Creek Elementary School, hence is solo run Friday. Rod was selling wood bird houses on behalf of the Salmon organization, one of which was sold to Edie.
Participants in all their events enjoyed the best days of the year this weekend.
