Beautiful Vancouver!
Eight Cruisers: RA Edie, Laurie, Bobtoc, Stormin’ Norman, Gina and Larry, and walkers Lynn and Al took the Skytrain to Main and Terminal 7.30ish Saturday morning for a run-walk beginning in the False Creek area. Lynn and Al opted to walk out 30 minutes and return, The six runners formed into two pace groups, Edie, Laurie and Bob being the slower group with Norman, Gina and Larry forming the fast group. The eight started at the Scienceworld building, ran-walked west and north, with Lynn and Al doing their thing which is a fast walking clip. The others continued west into the former Expo area amongst the many tall new structures, continuing through the north side of the Creek, past the Vancouver Aquatic Centre into the English Bay area, then onto the Stanley Park seawall, going east and ended at the Canada Place area. Time for the fast group, 2.00, for the more sedate group, 2.09. distance 15.21 km per Edie’s calculations. All six enjoyed the steps leading up to Cordova from the new convention centre. The hillwork was outstanding. The octet enjoyed the finest day of the year; sunshine, breezes, many shady spots, good company. Vancouver was at its finest! Gina left the group before the debriefing at, guess where, Tim Horton’s, since she had other engagements for the day. .
Lynn provided more particulars of the walk she and Al enjoyed Saturday. Their route from Scienceworld included a walk on the Stanley Park seawall, then north east on one of the streets to Cardero, continued along that part of the seawall to the Waterfront Station for their journey back to Burnaby. Time and distance, 1.24, 9.53 respectively. Did their shoes touch the ground? Wow! Lynn and Al will be absent until later in July, no doubt will be refreshed upon their return. They’re probably going to practice so they can walk faster!
