Burnaby Lake taken by Sharon on January 16th – Sunshine at last!
Nine runners and walkers met at the Centre Monday at 6:30 pm. Walkers Adele, RA Edie and Tracy walked west, time 1.10. Walkers and runners welcomed back Chris Morley, absent for over two years, back to the fold. Runners Chris, Emmy Verkade, Lora, Sharon, Tish and Bobtoc ran west to IGA and return, time 1.07, distance 9.5 k. The nine enjoyed a balmy +11 C evening which featured a moratoriam for most of the time from rain or showers.
Injury: One of the runners experienced a first for her, the ilio tibia band syndrome, the most common ailment of runners. To do:
RICE. Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.
SHOES. If more than 500 km on shoes, buy new ones from a sports shop with knowledgable staff for proper fit and manufacturer for YOUR feet.

Six runners met at the Centre Wednesday at 6:30 pm for a session of hill repeats using Underhill Avenue, where Chris Morley caught up to the six being: Adele, Alex, Lora, Sharon, Tracy and Bobtoc. Adele wisely did only 1x on Underhill since she is coming back to running very carefully; the others completed 4x then returned to the Centre via Forest Grove Drive, the pedestrian overpass, the Beaverbrooks, etc. Time out, 1.11, distance approx 8.5 k. Conditions were +10C, few intermittent showers only, all in all great. Emmy Verkade has been sidelined temporarily, having to use crutches. More later.

Saturday – Norman ran 9.5k in 1:10, then did another 6k with his dogs, Edie walked the Eastlake/Forest Grove route with her four legged friends.
Sharon’s report…..

Instead of getting up early and heading to Cameron to join the Cruisers long run, I chose to get my Saturday errand done and then head with my camera to Burnaby Lake. It was around 3 p.m. so the sun was still fairly high in the sky when I entered the Trail and head around from west to east, But by the time I got to the east end it was getting darkish– so chose to head out of the lake area up onto Winston Street via Government Road- home. Hearing that a bobcat was seen at Deer Lake this winter and coyotes at Burnaby Lake, and most human guests to the Trail had finished their adventure for today, I took a detour–always safer up on the highway.
It sure was a splendid day for a Burnaby Lake circuit. Lots of people had that same idea– so wasn’t alone on the Trail– several runner, walkers, and dogs getting some sunshine before our next weather system is upon us tomorrow.
When this scenery is less than 5 minutes away from my house, and these are WINTER photos, why would I want to move!

Sunday – Chilly Chase – Alex, Debra, Laurie B., Neil, Rachel and Edie did the 15k and Laurie H did the 10k. We lucked out with the weather – the rain stopped and the sun came out. The route was through farmland on quiet roads and the scenery was so peaceful. Christina volunteered at the finish line.Welcome back to Rachel Fouladi, who is back from Turkey. Rachel also ran the Club Fat Ass 50KM ultra on New Years Day in 6HR 30 MINUTE!! Awesome Rachel!!
