Cruisers were busy on the weekend and Monday. Rachel Fouladi formed a team of one to run at SFU for pledges for the Canadian Cancer Society Friday overnight in a 12 hour relay, running over 82 km and raised $1,995 in pledges, being the highest individual fund raiser and the third highest achieving team. Not too shabby, Rachel! Congratulations! RA Edie and Laurie ran Friday morning at Burnaby Lake. Alex Lau ran 29 km Saturday in his run-up for the Vancouver Marathon, his first for a few years. Cruisers Carla, Sayeeda, Sharon, Alex, Rod and Bobtoc on Monday evening met at the Centre for a run to Hume Park via Joe’s trail, taking advantage of daylight saving time, liberating us from the sameoldsameold Eastlake, Broadway etal route. Time for the women, 59 minutes, and for the guys, 1:03, Bobtoc being slowmanonthetotempole. Rachel Fouladi ran with the six as far as Cariboo and the road into Joe’s trail. Edie and sister from Kamloops, along with Edie’s dogs Bella and April, walked and on their way at Government Street met Lynn and Al Field who also had their dogs out for a walk. Edie and Chris flew to Mexico early this morning for a short vacation. Hmm. Wonder if she will convert to Corona from Bud. The ten enjoyed a cool but no precip evening for their run/walk.
The annual Half Way 5K run for Burnaby Sun Run Clinics plus some from North Van and East Van happened Sunday morning at Burnaby Lake. A record 397 wannabees and leaders ran the course, and a legion of leaders handled the refreshments at the Rowing Club Pavilion after the run. Kudos bigtime to Rainy Kent, Joe Turtle, and the loyal band of friends from the Eileen Dailly running group for pulling off again a most successful event for the Clinic participants.

Six Cruisers plus no doubt the ethereal Harvey ran from the Centre Wednesday evening, relishing the extra daylight post PST. Alex, Larry, Libby, Lora, Rod and Bob ran west on Eastlake to Production Way, north to the trail taking us west over hills, dale and stream to Underhill, north to the lane at the Shellmont-Underhill intersection, then east on the lane past Cinnamon Drive, continuing east on the trail parallel to Forest Grove Drive, south and east on the Drive into Production Way then back to the Centre. The group enjoyed the no precip, cool comfortable temperature. Time and distance, 1:10, 9 km.

Cruisers were busy on the weekend. Here are reports from a few:
On March 20th, I ran 42.2 km from my home to the Crosstown Greenway then all the way downtown just pass Cambie Street and return home in 4 hr 30 minutes . It was quite an effort to do the full distance on your own unsupported. I eventually ran out of water and gels but made it home safely by walking and jogging the last 10 of 42.2 km.
Yesterday, I ran from my home to Eastlake, Arden, then onto the overpass across Hastings St. . From there I headed east along Barnet highway till I reached the 16Km turnaround point in Port Moody. I returned back home in reverse route. Time out : 3hrs 10 minutes Distance :32.2 KM.

Norman
From Shiraz:

Nice to get out running with you guys again and quite pleased with my own performance after such a long time. So, anyway, Rachel and myself got back to Cameron from Duthie ( 11 km in total) in 78 minutes. Hope your 20K run was not too exhausting. See you all Wednesday.

From Rod who played field hockey Saturday afternoon:

FYI: We won the last game of the season 5-3. We only had eleven players, so
I got to play the whole game. Somewhat stiff this morning as you can
imagine.
See you Monday

On Saturday morning five Cruisers met, not counting the ethereal Harvey, for a run west. See Shiraz’s report for Rachel Lindquist and himself above. Three others, Larry, Rod and Bobtoc continued on and ran as far west as Willingdon Avenue and returned to the Centre. Time out, 2:43, distance per Rod’s GPS, 21.1. The five enjoyed a cool, overcast but no precip morning, with sun breaking out for the three lsd runners as they draped themselves over the fence at the Centre. Life is good.
