Tailgate party at Burnaby Lake organized by Rainy and Joe

Nine Cruisers and a Cruiser “athletic supporter” met at the Burnaby Lake parking lot Wednesday to join the Eileen Dailly running group for a run and for their last tailgate party for the season. Cruisers Alex and his wife Angela, Carla, RA Edie, Laurie, Sayeeda, Sharon, Shiraz, Valerie and Bobtoc answered the bell for the Cameron Centre group, Edie and Laurie not staying after the run, and Valerie, with child about to spring forth any moment, made an appearance and stayed for the food festivities. The runners and guests from both clubs enjoyed a run, some doing the circuit, two Nordic walking, some out 30 minutes and returning. The group were blessed with a gorgeous evening, beautiful moonlight, no doubt the last of the summer weather experienced recently. Sayeeda has connected with runners training for a full marathon; good news for all concerned. The writer has re-injured his left calf and will walk Saturday with Rod, also afflicted, same thing.

Saturday: Six runners and walkers met at Rocky Point Saturday 7:30 am and made an early start along the trail east then north to the Sunnyside Beach then onto Alderside. Rod and Bobtoc walked due to their injuries to Ioco Road and Alderside, their time and distance 2.00, and 8 km. Rene ran about 8 km, time approx one hour. Rick Davidson tells the training of Sharon, Shiraz, Rene and himself. His report follows:

I had a pretty good run today.

On the way out Rene and I ran ahead of Sharon and Shiraz, with Rene setting a good pace. Rene demonstrated nimble footwork navigating the obstacles the eastern trails of Rocky Point Park.
We followed the usual route to the corner of Alderside Road and Ioco Road, where we turned back down Alderside to find Sharon and Shiraz just a couple of hundred meters behind us. Rene decided to turn back when we reached Ioco Rd again.
From there Sharon, Shiraz and I ran out to the refinery and then retraced our steps to 1st Avenue and Ioco. We went up 1st Avenue, and then up and up Sunnyside Road, through Anmore and beyond, to the pedestrian trail leading to Buntzen Lake. Sharon demonstrated a lot of stamina– powering up the hills and sending me out ahead to scout for flat spots.
After a short distance on the Buntzen trail, Sharon and Shiraz decided they’d had enough and turned back towards Rocky Point. I continued on my own for my first ever visit to the South Beach area of Buntzen, and was quite impressed with how beautiful the lake is.
From the beach I started my journey back, throwing in a detour to the Pump House on the Buntzen Lake Trail and a reprise visit to the refinery.
Total distance 27.3km in about 3:40.

Whew! — that tired me out— and I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch and an afternoon nap. Rick
Thanks Rick for your report. It made my work easy.
