Ten Cruisers met Monday for running or walking. All ten set out along the Stoney Creek trail to take advantage of sunlight while we have it and continued to North Road then east on Chapman. Runners Alex, Carla and Sayeeda ran to Robinson, then east on Smith to Blue Mountain Road before returning to the Centre; time and distance one hour, 8.8 km. Runners Edie and Lora took a shorter route, running to Robinsen then returned to the Centre, time and distance about 45 minutes, 7 km. Walkers Adele,Tracy, Larry, Rod and Bobtoc, the latter two favouring their injured left calves (no bull there), walked out 33 minutes and reversed direction on Chapman Avenue to return, time 1:06, distance about 6 km. Bobtoc’s leg is quite sore.
Sayeeda ran with runners from Rainy’s group Sunday at the Demonstration Forest on Mt Seymour, did 21 km with them, then 9 km when she returned home. The 30 km did not slow her down on her Monday run with us. NYC, here she comes.
Wednesday: Three Cruisers met Wednesday at the Burnaby Lake parking lot, Larry to walk the perimeter of the sports fields 3x, RA Edie and Lora to run to Deer Lake via Sprott, Norland to the Deer Lake Parkway to Sperling, then into the park by the rental boat area, continue west and around the Lake to the Hart House area then retrace their route back to Burnaby Lake. Time and distance, 55 minutes, distance about 7.5 km. Gimpy Bobtoc saw the three off and away then returned home for stretch and ice. The evening was gorgeous. Thanks to Edie for her report and her admonition to me to get some therapy. For my leg it is hoped.
Saturday: We had a great run today – the weather was perfect with sunshine and a cool breeze. We lost sight of Rick and Sharon fairly soon. Alex, Shiraz and I planned to run to Commercial and then back to Burnaby Lake but when we got to Commercial, we decided to run further and take the sky train back. We are such adventurers! We ran to Clark and took 6th Avenue to Ontario, then ran around Science World to Drake and Pacific then ran to the Stadium Skytrain. The scenery was spectacular. It was amazing to run all the way from Burnaby Lake to Yaletown. Shiraz and I were pleased with ourselves and Alex knew all the directions. We got off at Burnaby Lake Station at 10:30 and walked back to our cars. We must have done about 18k, including our walks. Time running was 2:05. It doesn’t get any better than this – except when all the running buddies are with us.
Saturday’s morning run by Sharon and Rick, supplementing the Sept 4 update:
Sharon and Rick ran along the Central Valley Urban trail and continued west to Semlin Drive in Vancouver, veered over to Trout Lake, circumnavigated it, and returned the same route to the Burnaby Lake parking lot, time out, 2:07, distance over 19 km. Rick ran around Burnaby Lake before meeting the group and did some laps around the field after he and Sharon returned.
Sayeeda’s Sunday trainng for the NYC marathon, per Kathryn Ford’s report:
Hey Bob – Sayeeda and six Bushtits ran from Home Depot at 7.30 a.m. on Sept.5 (plus a rehabbing Bushtit who rode his bike). Sayeeda and three other crazies did 34K, out to Jericho and back. Time was about 4h. 15 mins. (which included two bathroom breaks and several refueling stops). We got extremely wet. One more long run left, scheduled for Sept. 19.
