Monday: Nine Cruisers turned out Monday on a cool evening. All turned east toward Como Lake. Larry, the sole walker, went east as far as Blue Mountain Road, returning via Foster Ave. the remainder, Tracy, Ryan, Rene, Rod, Sharon, Alex, Edie and Bobtoc continued to Como Lake, the last two not completing the loop around the lake before the return leg. Tracy and Ryan kept an eye on the others by bobturning to ensure safety. The nine did the distances in a little over an hour, Larry walking 6 km and the others 8.5 to 9 km.
Wednesday: Eight Cruisers turned out Wednesday evening and ran, albeit some slowly, to the IGA corner and return. Rene, Sayeed who is now tapering for the NYC marathon, Sharon and Rod were the first out, did 9.65 km including some bobturns, time 1:15 to 1:20. Edie, Libby, Shiraz and Bobtoc were slower, did 9.40, time more like 1:25 with walking. The eight enjoyed good weather, ideal temperature. great moonshine.
Footnote to Monday’s run: Chris Keeling emerged from a class at Cameron Centre, with whom Bobtoc had the pleasure of catching up news . Chris advised he and Patrica are walking very early each weekday morning before setting off to UBC and school respectively, and Chris takes three spinning classes per week. He looks and sounds great; what a pleasure it was to see him. Both are healthy and happy.
News from Jennel: Marie and I had two phone conversations with her yesterday on a “day off”. She sounds great, has 34 more days to go per her Doc. She also reported on some work being underway at Rocky Point to prevent soil erosion.
Saturday: Nine Cruisers turned out Saturday morning, one to walk and the others to run taking into account their training needs. The nine enjoyed a temperature of +9C at the outset of the walk/run. The nine started together, moving west toward Burnaby Lake via the trail to Government Street. Larry walked to the north trail, 35 minutes out and returned 35 minutes back to the Centre. Runners Norman, Rene and Shiraz continued on Government Street to the new Sperling Ave pedestrian overpass to the “new” trail, crossed Douglas Road to Still Creek Road and continued on the Central Valley Urban trail as far as Costco before returning. Time for Norman and Rene, 1:55, distance 19 km. RA Edie, Rachel, Sharon, Rod and Bobtoc turned south at the Brunette River dam and continued on that Bby Lake trail, circumnavigating south and west to the Rugby Club then north onto the north trail where they were met by Shiraz, whose total distance also was 19 km. The time for Edie, Rachel and Sharon was 1:57, and for Shiraz, Rod and Bobtoc, walking with their running, 2:03, with Rod and Bobtoc covering 13.5 km, being cautious due to their tendonitis problems, albeit much improved, also Rod was to play field hockey, in his 55th season, in the p.m. at UBC.
Several Cruisers paused at the bridge over Stoney Creek immediately before Cameron Street on the return leg to view the salmon returning to spawn. Norman and Sharon walked upstream and saw a number of large salmon.
