Saturday: Three Cruisers met at 7:30 am , Cameron Centre, for a run. Rick needed a 15 mile run. Since the others, Edie and Shiraz were not scheduled for that distance, Rick decided to go to Poco to use a run he discovered there some weeks ago. He looks greatm his training is going well. Edie reported for Shiraz and herself: Shiraz and I headed to Winston and ran to Piper, turned left into Burnaby Lake and left again at the Nature House to follow the trail in Burnaby Lake and returned to Cameron via our usual route. It was a perfect day for a run although quite humid in Burnaby Lake. We did about 6.5k in 50 minutes. I mapped it out using the web site that Alex sent me: http://www.runningahead.com/ if anyone wants to use the website for their runs. I found it a bit hard as all the street names don’t show.
New Cruiser Arrives! Valerie and Richard are proud parents!

He weighed in at 8 lbs, 4 ounces and measured 21″ long.
Valerie, Damien and Richard returned home from the hospital on Wed Sept 22 at 2pm and have been very grateful that Damien’s new Grandparents Nicole&Michel and John&Alma have made the trip to Vancouver to help assist with Valerie’s recovery and my sleep recovery as a new Dad.
Wednesday: Nine Cruisers walked or ran Wednesday evening. Thank you to Larry and Sharon for their reports:
From Larry:
Rod, Larry, Flora and Ross enjoyed the great almost-fall weather, sunset and no rain, as we walked along Beaverbrook and Eastlake to Underhill and back. Just over 5 km distance covered, time of 58 minutes. Ross’s foot was feeling better and Rod’s leg was fine as long as he doesn’t run for now. Flora did a slow jog. And yes, again 4 people started and the same 4 people returned. Doesn’t get any better….. you know the rest.
From Sharon:
It was a beautiful evening for the final run of Summer 2010. Five runners, Libby, Rachel, Rene, Sayeeda and Sharon took advantage of the last rays of sunshine to run Joe’s Trail and headed over to Hume Park. Walkers and runners alike viewed the beautiful full moon rising over Cameron as they arrived back at the Center.
Monday: Eight Cruisers, one Cruiser spouse and athletic supporter Ross Johnson and two canines Bella and April met Monday at the Centre for the walk/run. My thanks to Larry and Sharon for their reports. I am pleased that eleven bodies returned, not only returned but were the same ones that set out. ( Bean counters don’t usually worry too much about same bodies).

WALK TONIGHT – Rod, Larry, Flora, Ross, Edie, April and Bella set out down to Joe’s Trail, walked partway along the trail and then came back before it got too dark. We were out 1 hour 10 minutes and did about 6 km or so, with Ross taking a breather on Winston at the New Life Church and rejoining us on the way back due to a tender foot, but he’s still looking strong. Five humans and two dogs out, same number came back so we didn’t lose anyone on the way – we’re proud. Larry
The four runners, Tracy, Rene, Rachael and Sharon decided to do the Burnaby Mountain (North Road) Mountain Bikers’ Trail for what might be the last time for this year. due to early darkness in the evenings. The four I headed up Stoney Creek to North Road and then onto the forest trail. The creek was running rapidly along Stoney Creek Trail with so much rainfall, maybe a record setter for September. It is a very technical trail to run, so we didn’t go fast. It is a good workout as it is up all the way, full of tree roots slippery pieces of wood that have been laid in the ground by the bikers to make a rough wash-board like surface, and lots of twists and turns. Getting so close to dusk we only did the two trails that got us up to the top of North Road near the trails that would head to the campus if continued, so we headed out of the trail to return via North Road, then Stoney Creek Trail to the Center. Our time out was shorter than most Monday workouts, about 50 minutes- but we had a good time and didn’t have many stops and starts. Tracy and René forged in front for most of the workout , and Rachael and I chugged along behind.
