Nine Cruisers: Debra, RA Edie, Larry, Lora, Rod, Sayeeda, Sharien, Bobtoc and Iris Hill welcome
d newbies Helen Marenghi and Karen Stevens to the Monday evening run. Helen and Karen are nurses at RCH, colleagues of Sayeeda and Stgormin’ Norman. Before the run, Edie was feted by the group celebrating her birthday May 17th with a delicious two-layered chocolate cake from the oven of Sharien plus a BBQ sauce bearing the name of the brew which supports the MLS soccer teams. I won’t mention the name on principle. It’s a long story. After the festivities the eleven plus canine Cruiser April ran south to Joe’s Trail, with Sayeeda, Helen and Karen crossing North Road to Hume Park, scaling Larry’s Hill before returning. Other runners turned back at different distances. The times varied from 51 minutes to approximately an hour, Edie and Bobtoc rendering first aid, well, second aid, to a young girl who fell off her small bicycle on the trail.
Thanks to Carla who provided statistics from the Beaver/Elk Lake 50 k and full marathon:

On Wednesday, 8 Cruisers were out to enjoy the first summery evening run of the year with clear skies and warm temperatures – 18 degrees. Too hot for Flora who ran with Libby, Rachel, Chris, Edie, Alex and April to Winston via the trail, along the path to Brighton, up Government to the school, up the steps to Lougheed, then up Lake City to Broadway and return via Eastlake. Alex said the route was good because it was flat, but did you notice all the “ups” I used? Hmmmm….not so flat, but it was a good run. We were out about I:05 and returned to find Larry and Rod waiting for us after their Executive Meeting at Timmy’s and Ross, the sole walker who went the Eastlake route. Chris did several turns to round up the stragglers, who shall remain unnamed. It was a fun run, good company.

I just wanted to pa

ss along my congratulations to all the participants and their avid supporters on another successful event at this weekend’s

Peach City 10K and (The Full) ½ Marathon Race in Penticton. Most to the delight of their supporters, the Cruisers running team did very well. In fact, the Team took awa

y four medals (1st to 3rd place in respective age categories) from this event. They also ended up taking away numerous bottles of wines from the Naramata vineyards in celebration of this event. Thanks to our wonderful host, Renate, for an excellent après race tour of the local wineries. Great way to unwind and relax. The weather cooperated and a good time was had by all. I have attached several photos highlighting the festive event.

Congratulations again on a great showing at the race.

Seven Cruisers accompanied by their athletic supporters motored to Penticton for the Peach City 10 k and Half Marathon run on Sunday May 23. The 10k participants were Christina and RA Edie, the Half Marathon participants were Alex, Debra, Larry, Rod and Bobtoc. The route started in the 500 block Main Street and headed toward Skaha Lake along South Main and continued on the road on the east side of the lake to the respective turn-arounds for the two races. The seven enjoyed perfect weather: soft showers, which ended while the races progressed, the blue sky showing through the clouds, no wind, comfortable temperatures. These races are well-organized and this year was no exception. Five of the Cruisers were medal-winners. The stats follow:
10 k
Christina 58:27
Edie 1:13:15 First in her age group
Half
Larry 1:56:07
Debra 2:00:25 Third in her age group
Alex 2:03:13 First in his age group
Rod 2:15:43 First in his new age group
Bobtoc 3:02:52 First in his new age group, out of a field of one. Bob also had the distinction of being the last man to finish! It’s hell to be old.
The Cruisers and supporters enjoyed a very fine dinner Saturday night at Penticton’s Villa Rosa Italian restaurant and a brunch at the hotel cafe Sunday after the races.
