Cruisers were busy on the long Labour Day weekend.
Eight Cruisers met Monday am at Rocky Point on a beautiful day: sim. comfortable temperature, gorgeous scenery. The eight set out on the usual route. RA Edie, Laura and Laurie ran to April Road and return. Chris, Larry, Norman and Rick ran to the Ioco refinery gates and return. Bobtoc walked to the Old Orchard Beach and return. Sciatic nerve brings pain big time.
Alex Lau did the Grouse Grind it is understood. Christina and Debra ran in the Fort Langley area, their goal to run 16 km.
Rod ran in northern California, covering 14 km Tuesday, during his visit to son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter.
Well, it’s back to school for the kids, and now the gang is coming back to run! Libby and René returned, and Shiraz managed to get a break from his child-rearing duties (both of the twin boys are doing fine by the way), and were joined by Edie, Laura and Larry on a sunny, warm evening. We ran down to Joe’s Trail, which was shady and a bit cooler although humid. The 10 and 1’s expanded to 10 and 5’s toward the end, but it was warm and we paced ourselves, as some of the group was just getting back into the swing of running. Lots of good conversation too. We did 7.5 km in about 1 hour 10 minutes. Dusk is coming a bit earlier now, sigh. Larrytheyounger.
Not to be outdone, Rod ran this am in California. He reports:
Just finished an 18 km run. Time about 2h20. I seem to have temporarily joined the Tuesday/Thursday group. (Adele and Tracy please note). Hope you are feeling better.
Cruisers have been busy recently.
From Larrytheyounger:
It was summery, sunny and warm on Saturday morning but four Cruisers found a shady route and enjoyed getting at ‘er and getting ‘er done before the real heat of the day. RA Edie, Laurie, Larry and Alex did a longish run, starting from Cameron Centre down to the Burnaby Lake trails, entering the trails at the Avalon St. entrance, then going right around the lake, taking a turn on the way back once we got to the horse riding area parking lot, back out along Avalon and then continuing on through Joe’s Trail to North Road, finishing up by heading back to Cameron Centre. We observed a new bridge being built along Joe’s Trail, east of the Highway 1 overpass. The new bridge crosses over to a new trail being cleared on the other side of the creek. We’ll have to see where that trail leads when it’s finished. We had shade for about 95% of our run, which made it one of the best days of the year! We ran 18.5 km in a time of 2 hours 30 minutes, not bad considering we ran a slower pace due to the warm temperature. Alex continued on his run to IGA, doing his marathon training for a distance of 29 km.
Bobtoc walked Saturday morning to Cariboo St and entered the Burnaby Lake trail area via Avalon Street, retraced his steps to Cariboo Road and entered Joe’s Trail. He too observed construction having to do with Highway 1 expansion, then returned to the Centre. Time out 1:10.
Sherian also has been busy for the past few days. Here is her account verbatim:
Been getting my long solo runs the past few weeks in preparation for Banff Melissa race– did a 23.3 kilometer (my longest), and a 20 kilometer one (this last Sat. starting at 6:15 a.m.) and a few shorter ones in between. Labor Day Sept 1, Grouse Grind with Carla and Alex– 1 hour and 9 minutes. Sept. 7 kayaking on Deer Lake for one hour first experience.
Each Thursday hiking with th
On Sunday morning, Chris Keeling, RA Edie, Laura Farrelly and Bobtoc participa
ted in the Burnaby Hospital Foundation Rhythm of Life run/walks, Chris and Laura running the 10k, Edie and Bobtoc running the 5k accompanied
by Minnesota Rachel who showed up to observe. All participants enjoyed supreme weather; hot, sunny, bright. Rainy Kent’s running group produced many volunteers, without whom none of these runs can get off the ground. Kudos to her group big-time! Bobtoc, still sputtering along with his sciatic nerve stuff, was passed by most of the walkers in the 5 km. Life’s a bitch. Congratulations are due to the Hospital F
oundation for the fund-raising event.
