Four Cruisers turned out Monday:  RA Edie, Laura, Rod and Bobtoc due to the hot weather opted to walk the Stoney Creek trail to North Road and return, time 54.10, distance approx 3.5 km.


Wednesday’s run:  Larry, RA Edie, Laura, Alex, Minnesota Rachel and Katey walked/ran from the Centre to Joe’s Trail and return on a hot, muggy evening.  Time and distance, 1:15, 7.5 km. 

 

Thursday’s Giro di Burnaby cycle races:  RA Edie, Laurie, Larry, Alex and Angela, and Bobtoc volunteered at Burnaby’s cycle races in the Giro week.  Over 30 women and 135 men, competitors from New Zealand, Australia, Germany, the Netherlands and the US as well as Canadians, raced on a warm night, producing thrilling races, no accidents.  Again the Giro was flawlessly conducted; Rainy Kent take a bow big-time for excellent management.  Burnaby’s running community again turned out as volunteers in big numbers.  The magic of converting Hastings Street into a race track, complete with fencing, staging, happened in record time, as did at the end of the races, the taking down of fencing and barricades.  Burnaby engineering department were on the job manicuring the road before and after the races and collecting the garbage bags.  A great event to be sure.

 
Saturday morning’s run/walk:  Eleven turned out bright and early for a 7:30 start, actually 7:38.  Eight ran; Rene lead the way, finished in about 1 hour.  The others, Alex, Edie, Laura, Laurie, Minnesota Rachel, Rod and Bobtoc ran behind Rene, distance 8+ km, time 1:16, and for Edie, distance 14.7 who ran from and to her home from Mundy Park.  Christina, Flora and Ross opted to walk, their time about an hour.  Mundy Park was beautiful for the run; wide paths, second growth Douglas fir trees, lots of dogs and masters.  Most of the runners/walkers debriefed at the Linton-Como Lake mall Starbucks.  A good morning was had by all.
 
Alex with a group from Telus climbed the Grouse Grind during the week; enjoyed the shade on the way up.
