Five Cruisers met Monday at the Centre; Rod to say hello, Larry looking for a walk, and Laura, Sherian and Bobtoc who ran. Rod is convalescing from his recent operation according to schedule; Larry went home, and Laura, Sherian and Bobtoc ran to Como Lake using a reverse route, i.e, east on Ebert Ave to Lakeshore, a lap round the lake, and returned west on Cottonwood then Smith to North Road, crossing at Cameron Street, using the traffic light rather than jayrunning across North Road. The trio enjoyed a cool, fall evening, maybe the best of the year. Time, 1:14.
Weekend events:
Jennel ran the Trail River (Hyde Creek) Half Marathon, her first run since birthing Anamaria and Sofia, time 2:10 and change. Good work, Jennel!
Nancy Stagg was featured in September 21 edition of the Burnaby Now newspaper! Nancy was interviewed by Alfie Lau, report for the Now, and provided a most interesting conversation with Mr. Lau. We know Nancy’s a fine person; now Burnaby citizens do as well. Good on you, Nancy! Keep humble; don’t forget the salmonberries in spring!
Six Cruisers: Tracy, Rene, Larry, Libby, Edie and Bobtoc met at Cameron Centre Wednesday for their run, but before the run a presentation of the Faller’s Trophy was made to Libby commemorating her fall September 12 at the approach to the north trail to Burnaby Lake. The occasion was Libby’s first award of this prestigious trophy, lovingly crafted a few years ago by Rod. After the investiture, the six ran the Forest Grove Drive backwards route, i.e., Beaverbrook to the Gaglardi overpass, round the bend on Forest Grove heading west to Underhill Avenue to Eastlake, east to the Burnaby Mounntain Secondary School, with Tracy, Rene and Larry continuing to the bridge across the ravine, then east to Cameron Street, up the hill back to the Centre, their time and distance 48 minutes and 7 km. Libby, Edie and Bobtoc made the turn at the Secondary School east on Beaverbrook back to the Centre, their time and distance 60.26 and 6:3 km respectively.
From Jennel:
Heather & I went for a run tonight. We ran 4km along the Terry Fox Run that the highschool kids do in POCO, but I had to bail out and walk. WOW! was I ever sore tonight (that circulation problem).
So, we walked the rest of the way back to Hyde Creek. Heather had already run 6km prior to meeting up with me.
Her BIG EVENT is this Sunday @ 9a.m down in the States…..so we’ll wish her all the best! She’ll do awesome!!!
I’m on REST mode for at LEAST a week!!! I don’t want to worsen this injury (vein problem), as I have the FC to be at November 18th!!!=

Five Cruisers: Rene, Larry, Christina, Edie and Bobtoc met at and ran from the Poco Running Room store to the trail commencing near the Lougheed Highway bridge to Shaughnessy Street and beyond. The five ran south to the Red Bridge, into the Riverview property then into the Colony Farm acreage, running east and south, with Rene and Larry circling back for a shorter run, estimate 18 km, time 2:10. Christina, Edie and Bobtoc continued further south and east before heading west then north back into the Troubalay route on the north side of the red bridge thence to the Westwood Shopping Plaza parking lot, distance 19.4 km, time 2:46. The five enjoyed perfect weather; not hot, mostly sun, and terrific unspoiled scenery in the Colony Farm and Wilson farm area. Edit. note: The area is beautiful, unspoiled, green; BC citizens should resist with all their strenght any plan by governments to develop the area.
