Hi Bob…..We RAN the BMO today! These are my friends Jin & Regina Vongnakhorn (from Laos/beside Thailand). (There daughters are friends with Anamaria & Sofia) Jin & I ran the 1/2 and got great times! I got my PERSONAL BEST…1:55:30 (and of course it’s not under my name!?!) Dana Dean…. and my friend Jin got a time of 2:03, Reginia ran the 8km and got a time of 56: and change. We all did awesome and are still walking!!! Thought I’d send you some photos! Took my next door neighbours training tips and got “sub 2” YAHOO! Did you hear me scream from your house! I was excited! Logan (neighbour) gave another guy some advice on running the full and that guy finished a FULL in 3:34. Logan seems to know what he’s talking about!?! He did tell me to go for a FAST 5km run tomorrow. Not liking that idea, but he’s right.
Flora, Ross, Edie with canine April, Laura, Rod and Bobtoc welcomed Angela to the group Monday. Angela has watched us from a treadmill at Cameron Centre so decided to join us. Flora, Ross and Edie opted to walk; they started with the four runners. Not sure what route the walkers took, but a clue emerged when Laura picked up Flora’s cap on Beaverbrook outside the Stoney Creek Community School. Ross said the walkers did a few kilometers. The route of the four runners was west onto Eastlake, Underhill to Greystone to the IGA corner, returning on Greystone, then up Shellmont hill to Underhill, south to Forest Grove Drive, over the pedestrian overpass, past the school where Flora’s cap was collected, then back to the Centre. Time and distance, 1:30, and 9.5 km. The group re-joined at the Centre, stretched and otherwise leaned on the infamous fence outside the west door to the building. Conditions were good; no precip, warm temperature.
Heather & Jennel met at Lafarge Lake and walked/slowly ran a couple of laps around the park. 5km total. Ran into the Runners Den owner Paul Slaymaker, told him Jennel’s accomplishment of the BMO, got a high-five and was told to WALK….so WE DID!!! Heather shared in Jennel’s excitement and was SOOO happy for her! A TRUE FRIEND!!!
May 7th:Larry and Rachel, Angela, Libby, Rod and Bobtoc met at the Centre Wednesday on a no=precip evening. The six headed out to Joe’s trail, the first two walking and the other four running. The runners returned at 1)08 with Angela and Rod in the lead, and the walkers a few minutes later. The six on the route met Louise Rusch and friend Rebecca, their intention to meet up with the others at the Centre but had arrived after the six took off. In any event they met the other six at the Centre for the cooldown and stretch.
The Coquitlam contingent:
Heather & Jennel met LATE Wednesday morning (10am) and ran down Pipeline to Patricia to the Coquitlam River, down the river trail and back to our ‘start’. Heather ran an extra few km up the hill with Jennel on David then home. Both ran 12km. Jennel’s legs are NOT happy with her for running that far today!!! oops! Jennel:)
Rod’s Friday run:
Went from home the usual way to IGA and back up Shelmont/Forest Grove. Distance 10.5 km, time 1h25. Have a good run tomorrow. Rod
May10th: RA Edie,Larry , Rachel, Alex and Bobtoc met at the Centre Saturday on an overcast, +9C, but no-precip morning. The route taken was first onto the Stoney Creek trail, hung a left onto the small bridge and path to the Stoney Creek Community School to say hello to Pat Hargreaves and her entourage of two, then to the Gaglardi pedestrian overpass, around the horn of Forest Grove Drive to Underhill, south to Eestlake on return to the Centre. Time and distance, 1:06 and 6.1 km.
From Flora:
Ross and I missed the 8am Saturday gun-start so we came up with plan B. Ross walked while I ran 50 minutes and conquered 2 hills. Doggie therapy and Starbuck on route back.
Unlikely to make Monday unless Kumon is cancelled. Happy running at Penticton.
From Coquitlam:
Jennel went for a 5km walk on this Saturday morning…in between the 1000 things I’m doing today! Happy Mothers Day to ALL Mothers!!!
May 12th:Laura, Flora, Rod and Bobtoc met Monday evening at the Centre and opted to walk the Forest Grove Drive route using Eastlake, Underhill, Forest Grove Drive going east, over the Gaglardi pedestrian overpass, past the Stoney Creek Community School, the Beaverbrooks, Cameron St to the Centre. .Jennel ran solo today May 17 as my runner compadre went camping with her family up in Roche Lake. I’d say 5km run. Nothing big, just a jaunt to keep the blood flowing. Still recouping from the BMO. Jennel
Alex, Flora & Laura did the Mundy Park trails this morning, Monday May 19 endured a light rainfall, but the forest was fresh & invigorating! And that’s the full report!
Hey! Good Luck to all Peach City runners May 18!
Len, Louise, Rachel, Alex, Flora & Laura did once around beautiful Burnaby Lake yesterday, May 18,a great morning for a run.
For those of us still hanging around the lower mainland, it is suggested we meet at Mundy Park on Hillcrest St in Coquitlam (the parking lot by the swings/playground) on Monday at 8 am. Laura
Unfortunately, only Larry and Rod were able to run Sunday at the Peach Tree Half Marathon. Larry finished in 2:11 and change whilst Rod completed his run, placing second in his age group, time 2:33:34, placing 2nd in his age group!
Our Tuesday run: May 20 Jennel drove to Heather’s home on Shaugnessey; from there we ran walked up David hill for a warm up, then ran at a steady pace down Coast Meridian to Costco, turned around and ran back. Total run 10:44km Very warm outside this evening!=
On Wednesday evening, Libby, Edie with canine April, Rod and Larry walked the trail behind Cameron Centre to North Road, along Chapman to Robinson, down Smith Ave. to Clarke where the Skytrain line is quickly taking shape, to North Road and a short cut through a trail back to the rear of Cameron Centre. Distance about 6.7 km, time 1h 40m. Beautiful night for a walk. Rod and Larry stretched their legs, in recovery mode from the Penticton Half, while Bobtoc took the night off to re-energize.

On Saturday, Rod, Larry, Flora, Laura and Alex ran Joe’s Trail and back, taking advantage of a great day for a run as it did not rain. The weather was a little bland and cloudy but nothing to complain about. We were just happy to be there! The elder chap took a break but is doing fine.
Not sure who’s doing the reports…however, just to let you know, Heather & I ran 10km & change today. Each from our homes, 3 laps of Town Centre & back to our homes. Same thing is planned for Thursday, but we’ll run 5 laps around Town Centre making each of our runs 16km. Then we can just get two 5km’s in on our own for the weekend at some point! Running is time consuming! Geesh!?!

Cruisers update May 26
Hello, Cruisers! Monday evening brought comfortable temperatures with sun filtering through the trees and a cool breeze for 6 Cruisers and our mascot to enjoy. Rod, Edie, Bob and April walked the return 5k route to Eastlake and Underhill in 1:05. On the way to Underhill, Laura, Louise and Rachel ran back and forth doing Bob turns to check on the others before heading up Underhill and then returning to Cameron via Forest Grove to add on to their 8+k run in about 1:15.
A lovely evening to be out with friends of the two legged and four legged variety.
On Wednesday evening, Libby, Edie, Rod, Larry, Rachel, Laurie, Alex and Laura ran the Joe’s Trail route, almost completely with no rain except for the itsy bit of drizzle. Distance about 7.5 km, time 1h. Then, to Larry’s total surprise, a dinner/dessert was held at Paros Taverna Greek Restaurant to celebrate his 50th birthday. All the aforementioned runners attended and were joined by Rod’s wife Pat, Chris and Debra, Bobtoc (recovering from his second laser cataract surgery), Marie and grandniece Felicity, and Flora (who also did a few laps around Cameron Centre before the restaurant workout!). Larry thanks all who attended and felt honoured by their presence! Also thanks to those who sent their good wishes but could not be there! And to top it off, as we were inside Paros, outside the rain was moving in. Are we good with our run times or what??
Jennel updates her travels with Heather:
Heather ran 11km on Saturday and I went swimming instead of running. Attempting to rest my knee a bit! A touch sore from speeding that last 1/2 marathon…not sure that was a wise move….but time will tell!
Heather & I ran 10km & change on Tuesday. Each from our homes, 3 laps of Town Centre & back to our homes. Same thing is planned for Thursday.
Heather & I ran 16km & change this morning (Thursday) in the POURING, I’m talking POURING rain! Didn’t let up once! Not even for 5 min.!!! We were soaked to the bone! We met and ran 4 laps of the outer perimeter of Towne Centre Park. Making our total runs for each of us 16km and a bit. Phew! That’s done! We will proceed to do a couple of 5km’s on our own this weekend! Enjoy the weekend everyone! Heather’s “baby” has his graduation parties this weekend (ceremonies in June)! Congratulations Heather…good job! Your boy is graduating with honours! How exciting!!!
Not 49 anymore, no matter what the beer glass says!

May 31st:On Saturday Rod, Bobtoc, Larry, Edie and Alex took advantage of what so far was the best morning of the year and did a cruise-type jog (some would say a “wog”) along Beaverbrook, Eastlake, Underhill, Forest Grove and back to Cameron Centre, distance 7.5ish km, time 1h 17m. Alex left us at Broadway and Underhill for another appointment but did some running before the group met. There was some talk about upcoming runs, with some more of us considering the Scotiabank half. On a day like Saturday, sure was tempting to say “all in”.
