April 1st:  Alex, Edie, Larry, Laura, Libby, Rod, Terri-Lee and Bobtoc welcomed back Susan Vedoy Wednesday on a cool but no precip evening.  Larry and Susan opted to walk;  their route and distance unknown.  The remaining seven ran west using the underpass at the foot of Erickson Drive going south to Government St, then west to Production Way, north to Government Road to Piper Avenue.  In the meantime Alex ran east on Government to the nature house on the Burnaby Lake north trail then returned west and met up with the other six runners on Enterprise,  the seven then continuing to Eastlake, east back to the Centre.  Time for the seven runners, 1:26,  distance for Alex, 9:6 and for the  six, 8 k.
Bobtoc is running the Sun Run yet again for First United Church, raising funds by pledges for this haven in the grim Downtown Eastside.  The sanctuary of First Church is full of bunk beds.  Countless numbers of meals are provided for the folks who live, most homeless, in the area.  Donations may be made to Cliff Ave United Church for transmission to First Church.  Receipts are tax deductible!

April 3rd:  On Friday eleven Cruisers plus  two guests met at Barnet Beach at 9:30 am, crossed the highway to the start of the 500 steps to circumnavigate the course back to the beginning.  Cruisers RA Edie, Rachel, Rick, Larry, Laura, Laurie Hilborn , Christina and John, Flora, Sherian, Bobtoc and the guests Darlene and Jennifer enjoyed a no precip and cool morning, conditions perfect for the

journey.  The group enjoyed also the scenery and greenery, with some descriptions of places to look given by Rick.   Most completed the trek in just under 3 hours.  The 13 were lucky weather-wise.  A gentle rain began just as the group were leaving the parking lot.

On Saturday  Ivan, Laura, Rene’ and Tom Brown ran to  Joe’s Trail  plus a side trip to the Nature House, total of 11.7K in 1:20 including breaks to see the ducks.  Walkers Alex and Edie together with canine April  walked 7.2k to the end of Joe’s Trail and back in 1:33.  Perfect morning for a walk, trees were greening and birds were singing.  We were sorry to see so many big trees cut down for the new townhouse development.😢🌲🌳

Also on Saturday, Rod went out at 6.30 am solo in the Okanagan, clear and real cool. Time out 1h48, distance 15 km.

April 6th:On Monday seven runners or walkers showed up at the Centre on a cool but no precip evening.  The route was the Stoney Creek trail to North Road, east om Chapman Avenue to Robinson, south on Robinson to Foster for five of the seven, and to Ebert for two, all seven down to North Road to cross at Cameron Street thence to the Centre.   Runners were Rod and Laura,  walkers in the first five were Edie with canine April, Larry and Susan Vedoy.  Times for the two runners was 1:16, for the three walkers, 1:22, and for the other two walkers Alex and Bobtoc,  1:28.  Distance for all, 7.6 km.
Not to be outdone, part of the Coquitlam contingent included a boot camp for a new recruit on Monday.  Jennel went for a slow/steady/stop/fast run half way around Rocky Point Monday afternoon with her “new running buddy” Anamaria (sorry Heather!!!) as Anamaria rode her bike alongside of her Mom.  No FALLS for either of them!  Good day….fun, and sunny!  Then the RAIN came!   Anamaria is getting to be a really good 6 year old bike rider!!!  Good pace for Mama!!!  She says she’s training me for a marathon!!!  Jennel.

April 8th: On Wednesday night, eight Cruisers attended on a gorgeous, beautiful, sunny spring evening, maybe the best night of the year.  Libby, RA Edie, Terri-Lee, Alex, Susan, Rod, Larry and Laura did the Eastlake-Underhill-Forest Grove route, with Laura being the only runner until the way back on Forest Grove, then Rod and Edie joined her in the run, with Alex run-walking and Susan speed walking.  The rest walked the route, due to some in recovery and some limbering up for the Fools Run this coming Sunday (best of luck Libby, Terri-Lee and Alex!) and Sun Run on the 19th.  Distance 6.5 km, times between 1h 05m and 1h 20m.  Terri-Lee and Libby figured out a great motivational method to get them going during the Fools Run, so we shall see how it works…it’s a form of the BBCs as Jennel and others would say.   Bobtoc was away with his bride watching the Whitecaps tie Columbus 2-2.   Rod is getting ready for Arsenal’s bid for the FA Cup (Liverpool wagers likely to be unlucky?).

April 11th: On Saturday, Rod, Ivan, Laura, Edie, Susan, Alex and Larry ran or walked varied distances of the Burnaby Lake trails.  Edie, Alex, Susan and Larry walked to the nature house and back, time 1h 40m, distance about 6.5 km, while Rod, Ivan and Laura were going to run between 10 to 13 km as they planned to run all the way around the lake trails, in preparation for the Sun Run.  It was a good morning weather-wise, kind of cloudy but no rain.
Hello Cruisers,
Well, we covered the same trails this morning.
The Transplant Trott started after 10am. Ross and I completed the 8km run around Burnaby Lake at 1.20 (Ross) and 1.12(Flora). Wonderful celebration of life of over 500 participants. A dry run (no rum anywhere) with the rain coming in as we were all leaving followed by a ***brunch at John B’s pub.  Flora

From Jennel:  I got in a quick 1 hour run up Parkway Blvd up to Berkshire Crescent and back down before having to pick up Anamaria at school.  Good run and not that I’m advertising….but there are some BEAUTIFUL homes up there under “Homes of Paradise” being sold by Stella Price..if anyone is interested and has an extra 3 or 4 million (at least) in their back pocket…..open houses are on the Sat. & Sunday!!!   You’d get a very nice view!!!  Up past Westwood Plateau Golf course!  Rod, you’d be close to the Golf Course!!!    Jennel, Anamaria & Sofia were to run the Terry Fox Run on Friday at Bramblewood Elementary with all the classmates.

April 12th:  April Fool’s Run

April 13th:  On Monday evening eight Cruisers assembled at the Centre for a run/walk, although Rod made a cameo appearance only since he incurred an injury Saturday resulting in a swollen and painful left ankle which has the appearance of a sprain.  Get well soon Rod!  The remaining seven headed for Joe’s Trail.  Edie and April, Laura and Bobtoc ran to North Road on the trail and return, their distance and time being 8km and 1:17.  Walkers Susan, Alex, Eoin, and Larry completed 6.4 km return in approximately 1:50.  The weather was no precip, and cold.

April 19th:  On Sunday Larry, Laura, Pat, Rod, Sherian, Terri-Lee and Bobtoc ran the 31st Vancouver Sun Run under perfect conditions weather-wise; sunny, warm, easily the best day of the year.  Stats:  see below.   We did not see Sherian, but she was indeed at the run, no doubt in the first group crossing the start line.

The run was followed by brunch at the Burnaby Mountain Golf Course, attended by Larry, Laura and Eoin, Rod and Pat, Terri-Lee and Lou, and Bobtoc and  Marie.

April 22nd:On Wednesday evening, Libby, Edie and Terri-Lee ran (and walked some of it) Joe’s Trail to North Road and returned, distance 7.7 km, time 1h 13m, while Larry and Susan walked the same route but not all the way to North Road, distance 6.5 km, same time approximately.  Great spring weather, a bit of sunshine instead of the expected rain so that was a bonus.  Rod also attended to say hello but is resting a wonky ankle so he did not walk or run.  Bobtoc was absent due to a cold, hope the cold disappears soon.

April 25th: On Saturday, Larry, Terri-Lee and Len (back from Brazil!) ran along Joe’s Trail, North Road through Hume Park, did a lap around a square block in New Westminster, and returned, distance 9.7 km, time 1h 16m. RA Edie and Susan walked along Winston, Government St. and back, up Production Way to Eastlake and back to Cameron Centre, distance 9 km, time 1h 16m (they must have walked pretty fast!).  We had unexpected sunshine with a bit of cloud – no rain.

April 27th:  On Monday night, Shiraz, Flora and Laura met at Cameron and did the Stoney Creek trail – jogging/walking – I believe it took us a total of 45 min.  It was a beautiful, sunny evening outing.  See you Wednesday!  Thanks to Laura for providing the update.
From Jennel: Last Tuesday I (Jennel) ran 11km up & down the Coquitlam Crunch…..I went a “little” off track (not far at all 2/3 min.), but I saw fresh bear droppings….did a 180 and got out of there!!!
Heather & Jennel  ran 3 laps of Lafarge Lake/Town Centre Park Sunday evening…..8.56km for Jennel and 10.79 for Heather as she ran from home.  Jennel cheated and drove to the park!!!  We talked about some plans of running something special together next year 2016 for Jennel’s 40th!!!   Editor’s note: Hope we find out what that is….

April 29th:  On Wednesday night Larry, Laura, Terri-Lee, RA Edie and Bobtoc showed up at the Centre.  The first three opted to run using the Stoney Creek trail to North Road, north to the SFU power line trail as far as the entrance to the trail leading to the SFU perimeter road, then returned to the Centre; distance 6.75 km, time 1:15.  RA Edie and Bobtoc walked the Stoney Creek trail to North Road then returned the same route to the Centre; distance about 4 km, time 51 minutes.  Libby appeared a few minutes after the running trio showed up at the Centre after their run, Libby having been delayed in traffic.  Intrepid Libby, undaunted and solo,, used the tried and true route being Eastlake to Underhill, west onto Broadway, north onto Arden and Greystone to the Shellmont hill, south and east to Forest Grove Drive, and return via the Beaverbrooks to the Centre; distance about 7.5 km,  time about 1:15.  The groups enjoyed a no precip, relatively mild, evening.
Jennel ran Tuesday afternoon 10.23km from her home to Town Centre Park…around and back home “in the rain!” – light rain though…cool & refreshing!
