April 2018
April 4 2018: On Wednesday night, Alex, Bobtoc and Larry walked the Stoney Creek trail, up the North Road hill to Chapman, and returned, distance 4.8 km and time of 1h10. A drizzly evening but at least it was daylight, and spring was in the air, sort of. On our way back to the Cameron Centre parking lot, Flora drove by and waved, on her way home from work.
From Jennel: The Coquitlam Cruisers: Tuesday morning Heather drove to Jennel’s…from there the two gals walked down the Coquitlam Crunch, ran down Guildford to Rocky Point, ran along the trail to Old Orchard Park and returned – hiking back up the Crunch 🙂 Our total was 14 km…..beautiful out! NO RAIN Whatsoever! However, there was snow this morning about 9:00 🙁
April 7 2018: Alex, Eoin and Laura, and Bob met at the Centre Saturday on a decidedly soggy day, and, despite the rain, embarked on a walk using the Stoney Creek trail, thence to North Road, north to Chapman Street, east to Robinson, south through to Ivy, west to Appian Way, continuing to Cochrane then back to Cameron St to the Centre. Distance and time, 7.8 km and 2 hours including a few minutes used in gawking at houses along the route. The foursome did get damp notwithstanding their being armed with four umbrellas, but the spirits of the four walkers remained good.
From Ivan: My runs this week:
Wednesday afternoon: Joe’s Trail, 8K in 53min
Tuesday noon: Lunch Run, 8K in 57min
I will likely have to go out earlier on Saturdays for the time being (and might miss the group) as my Saturday morning schedule has changed until summer.
Report(s) from the Fools Run on the Sunshine? Coast to come later. It is understood the participants from the Cruisers debriefed at a pub in Sechelt. In a changing world, thankfully some things remain constant…
Jennel has accumulated 45.65 km this week. Some long runs and a LOT of walking with Nellie! I’m counting those walks too! We’re all loving our new addition to the family!
April Fools Run April 8 2018
On the ferry to Langdale with Larry, Susan and Edie – Susan’s first half. Cold, windy and wet day but still beautiful. Drive to Port Mellon to see the site of the township where Susan lived (all gone now) and to her house in Gibson’s with the perfect view and then on to Molly’s Reach. Too cold to stay too long there so off to visit Libby in her lovely house at Robert’s Creek.
Nine Cruisers and friends participated in the Fool’s Run Half Marathon on Sunday, April 8 on the beautiful Sunshine Coast. The route started in Gibsons and ended in Sechelt and included some peaceful country housing areas and some highway along the route. The course can best be described as undulating and somewhat challenging for runners and walkers. But we had fun and it didn’t really rain during the event, although there was some gentle precip at the beginning, and it cleared up near Sechelt. All of us Cruiser participants mostly walked the route. Flora, Ross, Larry, Edie, Susan, Libby, Daphne (Libby’s sister) and Denise (a friend of Libby’s from their Langley running days) were fortunate to enjoy Libby and Daphne’s hospitality for dinner on Saturday night at their family house in Roberts Creek, which is between Gibsons and Sechelt, and Flora, Ross, Larry and Denise stayed there overnight. Thanks again to Libby and Daphne for their hospitality! All except for Laurie and Sherian were able to wind up our fun with lunch at the Blackfish Pub in Gibsons after our walk/run.
Here are the finishing times for the Cruiser participants:
Larry 3:55:44 Laurie Hilborn 3:02:40 (Laurie’s daughter Anna may have run the half too)
Edie 4:13:51 Cruisers Relay team – Sherian and Christina 3:14:58
Flora 3:55:31
Susan 3:55:37
Libby 3:30:54
Denise 3:30:54

We’re both running the Terry Fox this Sunday, but are making that a LONG run too. Jennel hiked the Crunch again with Nellie and did some more walking making it roughly around 21km at this hour! Alex and Angela showed up at 6:25 pm on Monday at Cameron Centre. It was raining heavily with no sign of stopping.
