RA Edie with April, Eoin and Laura, Len and Miriam with granddog Jax, Larry, Susan, Kevin, Alex and Bobtoc met at the Centre Saturday a.m. on a warm but not uncomfortable morning. Ivan also appeared but he planned to run solo. Before the run/walk for the morning, Susan was presented with the Cruisers “Fallers Trophy” to commemorate her stumble and fall weeks ago at the Centre on a small stump in the grass separating the two parking lots on the north and west side of the Centre Building.
Notwithstanding no blood was a part of her injury, the fact that some bone breakage occurred overcame the absence of blood, therefore the award was made. Congratulations, Susan, for your experience! Destination chosen for the morning, except for Alex who ran to Hume Park to participate in a run there, was Como Lake using a route starting at Cochrane Ave. to Appian Way, other streets in the area to Robinson St. continuing east and north to Como Lake, round the lake for most of the walkers, then return to the Cameron Centre via Smith Ave., Willoughby Avenue back to the Centre; guestimated distance 8 km, times 2:25 to 2:27;distance and time for Alex, well over 19 km, 2:32.

First things first: the Cruisers did not go to Stanley Park Monday. Their intent was to walk the False Creek route. RA Edie, Larry, Eoin and Laura, Susan, and Bobtoc met at the Centre to park their cars before heading to the Skytrain Station at the shopping Centre. The six rode to the Main Street station where they met Alex, and Don, a friend of Susan’s. From there the group walked on the north side of False Creek, continued to the Burrard Bridge, hung a right, south to the end of the bridge, then behind the vacant former Capilaino brewery, to the south side of False Creek using Granville Island, and continued east to the Main Street Skytrain station for the return back to Burnaby. The day was warm; at the west side of Burrard Bridge there was an electric display board which indicated at 10:32 am the temperature was 32 C. Since we were for the most part on our journey close to the water, the temperature felt OK. Vancouver was at its best; young families, dogs on leash for all to pet them. Some of our group stopped for coffee near the display of a large bird before completing the journey back to the Skytrain station. At that point the group had walked slightly over 9.5 km, and the remaining walk to Quebec Street then Main Street easily put the distance at and over 10 km. We bid adieu to Don who resides in Surrey. The group returned to their cars at the Centre to return to their respective homes.

RA Edie with April, Len and Miriam, Eoin and Laura, Larry, Susan, Alex and Bobtoc met at the Burnaby Lake parking lot on a dull but no rain morning Saturday. The group walked north on the trail from the parking lot to the Spit to view the ducks and geese, the group then splitting off, i.e. Alex to go to North Vancouver for a reunion of his YMCA marathon training group of some 20 years ago, Len and Miriam to return home for beekeeping duties, the remainder returning to the parking lot to disburse. Time elapsed for the last group to complete, 1 hr 43 minutes. There was no coffee debriefing after this outing.
Monday August 12/19:
Alex, Larry, Susan and Bobtoc walked Monday evening from the Centre using the Still Creek trail once again du to the heat. Larry and Susan completed the walk in a few minutes less than Alex and Bobtoc, who spent some time picking and eating blackberries; some relatively sweet and some not. Their time to complete the walk was 55:16.
Saturday August 17/19:
Alex, Larry, Eoin and Laura and Bobtoc walked Saturday a.m. from the Burnaby Lake parking lot to Deer Lake and continued their journey circling the lake before returning to the Burnaby Lake parking lot. The route was busy with runners and walkers. Laura and Bobtoc checked out a few blackberries enroute to the Deer Lake trail. No rain was experienced; the temperature was ideal for the walk. The route round the lake was busy with walkers and runners, as well as pet dogs on leashes . Alex announced his family had increased by a baby born to his youngest son’s wife on August 16th at the Royal Columbian Hospital. Also, he agreed that he is now sleeping with a grandmother. All in all, a great walk. Time and distance, 1hr 49 minutes, 6.4 km.Beautiful Vancouver Route
my apology to Ivan if he did the run and I was remiss in my results search.
On Saturday morning Rod, Susan, Larry, Flora, Kevin, Eoin and Laura walked to the Burnaby Lake nature house, observed the dam restoration work, and visited the ducks at Piper Spit before returning the same way. Early on we experienced a sprinkle of rain and it remained humid throughout the walk. Distance was about 8.7 km, time 2h15.
