We returned by way of Francis,Curtis and eventually part of our usual path to the golf course. About 14 k and 3 hours or so. Beautiful day for walking. We parked at Squint Lake parking lot because they were taking license plate numbers at the golf course parking lot. – Edie.
(Re August 26th and 27th reports, Bob wrote: My thanks to Rod and Edie for their reports. Marie and I were occupied with oldest son Jeff’s family of wife Jenny and their two daughters Felicity and Isabelle, all residents of Trail, who were visiting and staying with us. – Bobtoc.)

On Saturday morning, Len and Miriam with granddog Jax, ,Edie, Larry, Rod, Bobtoc and Alex, Rene, Susan and Flora met at the Burnaby Lake Golf Course at 8:00 a.m. and walked north and west using the trails last used when starting from the golf course a few weeks ago, to the Trans Canada trails that lead within sight of the Inlet, and north of the homes on Capitol Hill.
The first five walkers retraced their steps south to Fell Avenue to the present BNHS and the new BNHS site under construction to Union Street, then the trail that leads to Curtis, crossed Curtis at Sherlock, then east to Duthie Avenue, then along Greystone back to the golf course.

Coquitlam Cruisers Update:
Hi Bob……Sorry we haven’t reported anything. We haven’t been running together these days. Heather & her husband have these new cool electrical bikes and have been busy zipping all over the Lower Mainland on them….(ie: 89 km out to Fort Langley, trips to Buntzen Lake). So happy for them enjoying the time together.
As for me (Jennel)….I have been doing the Coquitlam Crunch with Nellie quite often, then my family & I have been doing tonnes of hiking together around our area, Bunzten Lake, Bridal Falls, Up beyond the Crunch way out in the bush!!!) Finding lots of trails around here (Westwood Plateau). Going to dog parks…..getting a few runs in here & there…10-15km max…Heather & I usually report to one another our family adventure. But we’re all doing well. We have our next potential run….Oct 2-4 Michelob Ultra Night Run (Virtual Run 10km run). (Details to come…..but the best part is every km you run, a dinner/food plate is given to a person in need of food. it’s only a 5 or 10km, so we’ll be doing the 10km for sure….haven’t figured out everything yet….but that’s the plan! “Cool glow in the dark shirts, a headlamp, glowing wrist bands and glowing clips for your shoes” – that’s the gear you get with signing up…….Looks good to me and great cause!!!!!) – Jennel 🙂

On a warm Saturday morning Alex, Edie, Flora, Eoin and Laura with canine Lucky, Kevin, Larry, Rod, Susan and Bob met at Cameron Centre at 8:00 a.m. and opted to walk to Joe’s Trail to North Road and return. Alex, Kevin, Flora and Susan opted to continue to Moody Park by crossing North Road to put in more distance before returning to Cameron Centre. Time and distance for the larger group, 1 hr 47 min. 8.0 km, and for Alex, Kevin, Flora and Susan, 2 hr 15 min. for 9.5 km. August 12, 2020 – Rod’s B’day Bash!
Rod and Pat, Ivan, Alex and Angela, Flora and Ross, Larry, Bob and Marie, Christina and John, Susan, Kevin, Edie, and Sherian Kelly gathered at a picnic table and space around it on the City of Burnaby grassy grounds west of Kensington Avenue and Hastings Street for dinner, much of it purchased at the fish and chip shop in the Kensington shopping centre to celebrate Rod’s 80 birthday, as well as food brought by the folks at the birthday party.
The group enjoyed a no rain time and comfortable temperature to celebrate and be with some folks not seen for some time. Birthday cake consisted of cupcakes; no candle was used, although there was little doubt that Rod could have blown one out if one had been supplied. The occasion was, as said, enjoyable, and came to a close around 8:30. – Bobtoc
Happy B-Day Rod!
As an aside, it is interesting to me, that is Bob, to say that Bob’s father was a member of Squadron 112, one of the two RCAF squadrons to be in England at the time of the Battle of Britain, during which time Rod was born in England. Bob’s father was not a pilot or aircrew, but certainly was in England during the Battle of Britain.

Alex, Kevin and Bobtoc walked from Cameron Centre on a very warm evening, opted to use the now familiar Stoney Creek trail due to its shade to North Road and return; time 1:07, distance 4 km. Blackberries were tested, found some ripe, but the majority were not quite ready. – Bobtoc
August 8, 2020
On Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. Flora, Susan, Alex, Larry, Rod and Bobtoc met at the Burnaby Lake parking lot and walked south on the blacktop Sperling road, then turned east continuing as it turned north, stayed on it until the road became a gravel trail which turned west.
We have not used this route for a long time. We were pleased that the trail was in very good condition. Credit is due to the Metro Vancouver crews who have greatly improved the trail. It continued and took us into more familiar territory such as the bridge across the east part of the lake, past Piper Spit, continued west until we reached the parking lot. Some light rain occurred well before reaching the parking lot, but was not a deterrent to the satisfaction we felt in doing the distance. Time and distance, 2h 20 min., 11 or so km. – Bobtoc
Next gathering: Wednesday Aug 12, 6:00 p.m. for a special occasion being the celebration of Rod Hargreaves’ 80th birthday!
Instead of our usual walk, Rod and his wife Pat are to be feted by the Cruisers by way of a dinner. The plan is to utilize space immediately on the west side of Kensington Ave, south of Hastings St. on Burnaby city space, by a picnic table. Those attending are asked to pre-order their dinner and pay for it at the Cockney Kings fish and chip emporium in the Kensington shopping mall, pick it up at say 6.15, bring it over to the picnic table, and partake of it in the company of those attending. A cake and the meals of Rod and Pat will be looked after by other folks. Bring also a chair, knives and forks. Rod was one of the original Cruisers, so this is a special occasion big-time. RSVP.

Cruiser(s) of the Week awards.
Coquitlam Cruisers Update, August 3rd
Jennel went for a 13.5 km run Monday morning: First, down the Coquitlam Crunch, then back up…next, ran down to Town Centre and around once and back to her home. Tried to beat the hot sun, but left too late…8:30 am.
Funny note: Ten geese stood in a single line blocking the sidewalk at Town Centre. They eventually moved, but it was quite a sight to see. – Jennel

On Saturday morning 7:45 a.m. Alex, Edie, Eoin with his dog Lucky, Flora, Kevin, Larry, Rene, Rod, Susan and Bobtoc met at the Centre to embark on a walk to Joe’s Trail. Eoin with Lucky did not go to Joe’s Trail but ran back to the Centre. Rene also ran home from Joe’s Trail rather than returning to the Centre. The group enjoyed cloudless skies, a warm but not hot temperature, and used their usual route to Caribou Road then the trail to North Road to touch the green gate before returning. The group encountered a number of cyclists on Joe’s Trail who were travelling at fairly high speed, so had to use caution. Time and distance, 2 hours, distance 8 k. – Bobtoc
