Report from Edie: On Wednesday evening, five Cruisers walked the Stoney Creek Trail; René and Glenn, who set a faster pace, followed by Kevin, Flora and Edie. The first two had gone to Gilroy and were returning when the last three reached the trail end. Flora elected to run up North Road and run back while Edie and Kevin turned back with and soon fell behind René and Glenn. The trail was busy with walkers, runners and cyclists. Perfect temperature for walking.

Distance 4 km for the walkers, slightly less for Edie and Kevin, 5 km for Flora.

Thanks Edie for the report!

On Monday evening, Kevin, Flora, Alex, Brenda, Glenn and Larry walked along the Stoney Creek trail, which was cooler in temperature due to the extensive shade given by the trees.  We came across a tree that had fallen across the trail, and it was a team effort to break the tree into smaller pieces so we could move it off the trail.  We walked to North Road and up to Gilroy, then returned the same way.  Flora continued walking up to Chapman then jogged back and caught up with us, then continued her jog to Beaverbrook and then bobturning back to us.  Alex brought his snazzy medal from the Vancouver Half to show the group.

The walkers’ distance was 4 km and time 1 hour, while Flora’s distance was about 5.5 km and same time.

From Jennel:  Today (Tuesday morning) Jennel ran from her house, did two laps of Coquitlam Town Centre, then to Westwood, then back, distance 20.15 km.  Her comment on the distance: A half marathon distance is plenty enough!   😫

On Saturday morning Kevin, RA Edie, Larry, Len, Miriam and Jax (the “littlest Cruiser”) walked along Joe’s trail, and enjoyed the gorgeous sunny weather. We met Edie’s friend Nancy along the way on the trail and she walked with us until we were finished the trail at Cariboo Road. Our distance was 10 km and our time was just under 2 hours. We also chatted with Alex, who was meeting some of the Sport Med runners he was mentoring for their first half marathon on Sunday.

On Friday morning, Larry and Edie met with Bobtoc for coffee at JJ Beans on Madison and Hastings, then walked with Bobtoc around Confederation Park, about 2.5 km. The sun was out and we took advantage!

On Sunday, Alex completed the Vancouver Half Marathon, finishing strong in the warm weather. Kevin, Edie and Larry were at the finish line to cheer him on. Alex’s chip time was 3:01:03. Congratulations Alex!! Thanks to Kevin for the enclosed photo.

On Wednesday evening, RA Edie, René, Brenda, Glenn, Kevin and Larry walked from Cameron Centre to Noel Drive and along Noel to Rod and Pat’s house and said hello to them, then walked down Norcrest Court to the Stoney Creek trail, and followed the trail to North Road, up North Road to Gilroy Court, then down to Rathburn and along to the shortcut trail back to Stoney Creek trail, and back to the Centre. Our distance was 4 km, and walking time was just over an hour. The weather was a bit warmer and sunny 🙂

On Saturday, there was activity…

Kevin reports that he, Rene, Flora, and Edie walked to Burnaby Lake in search of the Sandhill Crane chick. Pictures of the young crane and its parents were shown on Monday evening. On Monday evening, RA Edie, René, Brenda, Glenn and Larry walked the Stoney Creek trail up to North Road, and René and Brenda walked up North Road to Guilby, then the group returned along the trail to Cameron Centre, distance about 4 km and time 1 hour. It seemed a bit warmer but it was cloudy – at least it wasn’t raining.

From Jennel: On Monday morning Jennel and her dogs ran the Coquitlam crunch, distance 8 km. It took a long time because they kept running into friends with dogs, so they had to stop and chat along the route. 🙂

At this time I’m not sure if anyone turned out on Saturday morning, but today’s run/walk is on as usual.

Note from Jennel: The Manitoba Marathon, held yesterday morning, was cancelled while in progress, after one and a half hours, due to extreme heat. 🙁

On Wednesday evening, Alex and Larry walked the Stoney Creek trail to North Road, up North Road to Guilby, and returned the same way. Our distance was 4 km (apparently it is a bit short of 4 km to walk just to North Road), and our time was 1 hour. It was spitting when we started out but it soon stopped even though it looked like it was going to rain monsoon style.

We were passed twice, on the way and then on the way back, by the North Burnaby runners’ group which was obviously running a longer route than us. The weeds, grass and shrubs along the trail seem like they have exploded with growth in the last week – it must be the combination of sunlight and rain. Everything is so green!

From Jennel: Jennel ran 11 km on Tuesday. Down Panorama to Johnson to the mall to pick up Cliff bars, then home the same route which involved going back up Johnson hill. It was the longest run she’s done in a while. Then in the evening she walked another 3 km, quite a workout!

On Monday evening, RA Edie, Alex, René, Brenda, Glenn and Larry walked the Stoney Creek trail to North Road. René and Brenda walked up North Road to the top of the hill at Chapman and returned the same way, catching up to Edie, Larry and Glenn who turned back at North Road. Distance for René and Brenda was 5 km, and for the other walkers was 4 km, and walk time for all was about 55 minutes. Alex continued his running up North Road, Chapman, along Clarke Road, rejoining North Road briefly before going down to Willoughby, Sullivan and back into Cameron Park, his distance 6 km and time approximately 1 hour.

Alex also ran 18 km on Saturday with the Sport Med group, their route going from Cameron Centre to Kensington Rink and back, followed by brunch at IHOP. Two weeks until his Vancouver Half Marathon!

From Jennel: On Monday morning Jennel and her two dogs hiked the entire Coquitlam Crunch, 8 km. This time they did not go down to Barnet where the Tim Hortons is 🙂

Report from RA Edie: On Saturday morning Edie, Flora and Maureen started out at 9 a.m.and did the lake loop of about 4 km in one hour. We went to the Farmers Market but it didn’t actually open until 10 a.m. and was monitored by the farmers market police. They didn’t look happy when I (Edie) left with two plants, illegally purchased before opening (rebel!). We had coffee outside at the Christine Sinclair Centre after. Lovely relaxed morning. 🌞

From Jennel: Jennel & Dogs walked the crunch again Friday morning….same thing, down to Tim Hortons & back. I would walk through the drive though and get a cup of coffee….but that’s just asking for trouble with 2 big dogs!?! LOL 9.54 km Jennel & dogs hiked Crunch again and did a few extra walks. 12.45 km (fun walks….meaning…. Sofia & I drove down to McDonalds to get ice cream cones, then walked the dogs in the park Friday afternoon!) See…..walking can be fun!!! LOL (Fun and distance…especially with the ice cream!)

On Wednesday evening, Millie, Larry, Alex, Brenda, Glenn, and RA Edie walked the Stoney Creek trail to North Road and returned the same way, while Alex ran up North Road and proceeded along Chapman and Clarke Road then down to Willoughby, Sullivan and back through Cameron Park. The walkers’ distance was 4 km and time 55 minutes. Alex’s distance was 5.8 km and time just under 1 hour. The skies were mostly clear and it was a nice mild late spring evening. Hoping for more of that kind of weather!

From Jennel: Tuesday morning: Could it rain any more!?! Jennel took her dogs down the Coquitlam Crunch….the entire thing. Way down to the Tim Hortons and all the restaurants…then it started raining…and raining….and raining! WOW! We were all soaked by the time we got home! 8 km

From Edie: RA Edie walked and Flora ran to Como Lake. We were pleasantly surprised to find Laura, Eoin and Lucky waiting for us. Another friend from BMN, Lori, also met us and we walked around twice. Flora walked home with me and then ran to her house. It was spitting a little but not a bad morning- spent time looking for birds on the walk.

From Jennel: Jennel & dogs walked & ran Parkway Blvd twice Sat. morning! Avoided doing the Coquitlam Crunch as it’s the weekend and I’m sure it was busy as it’s a beautiful day today. 8 km

Thanks Edie and Jennel for your reports!
