On Wednesday evening, Edie, Liane, Larry, René and Alex met at Burnaby Mountain Park (atop Burnaby Mountain) and walked around the trail and up to SFU and looked for the restaurant that supposedly opened there according to a news report that Larry and Alex heard. We found the location at one of the student residence buildings, however the restaurant doesn’t open until the start of the new semester next week. The restaurant will be open 24/7 and is open primarily to students, but also to visitors. Alex and Larry noted the many building additions and upgrades made since attending there eons ago.
Our distance was about 4.5 km and our time was about 1 hour. We stayed to watch the beautiful sunset and said hello to Barry and his dog Bibi who were also there to catch the sunset.

On Saturday morning Liane, Larry, Edie, Flora, Miriam, Len (with Jax) and Alex, who joined us as we were walking along Halifax from Squint Lake park. The group continued along Halifax, to Howard Ave. and up Heathdale Court to pick up Bobtoc. We walked with Bobtoc around his neighbourhood of Howard, Meadedale, a laneway that runs parallel to Holdom Ave., and repeated once before returning to Bobtoc’s house where he finished his walk, his distance 1.5 km and time of about 38 minutes. The group then returned to Squint Lake park via Grant St., Winch, Cliff Ave., Kitchener, Augusta and Halifax, our distance 10 km and time about 2h30. Len and Alex ran part of the way back.
The restaurant at the Burnaby Mountain Golf Course is open again (finally!).
Stay cool and hydrated everyone!

On Wednesday evening it was quite warm and humid, but the Cruisers kept going! Liane, Larry, Brenda, Glenn, Edie, Flora and Millie walked the shady Stoney Creek trail. We saw Ivan and his dog Lulu on our way into the trail and said hello. The group continued to North Road, with Liane, Larry, Brenda, Flora and Glenn walking up North Road to the Burnaby Mountain trail parking lot just past Chapman, then rejoining the rest of the group and continuing back along the trail.
Distance for the trail walkers was 4 km, and for the North Road walkers was 5 km. Time for all was just under 1 hour.
From Jennel: On Wednesday, the plan was to run in Bert Flinn Park, but there was a big warning sign, cougar in area! Well, forget that area, so down Ioco Road Jennel went, turning left on Ravine and ran around the huge homes in Port Moody. Not exactly sure where she was, but a nice lady pointed her to a shortcut to her home – cut through some bushes and some stairs to the next street. It was a shortcut, so thank you to Ms. Port Moody Lady!! Ran 8.5 km but in the heat it felt like 20 km! Then on Thursday evening, Jennel and her two dogs ran/fast walked up and down Parkway Blvd. Again it was hot so it was just like running the whole way. Distance of 7 km.
Stay cool and hydrated everyone!

On Monday evening, Liane, René, his wife Denise, Edie, Millie, Brenda, Glenn and Larry met at Cameron and walked the Stoney Creek trail which was shady although it was still quite humid even in the evening. The group walked along the trail to North Road, with Larry, Brenda, René and Liane walking up North Road to the parking lot past Chapman and returning to rejoin the group.
Distance for the group was about 4 km and for the Chapman walkers was about 5 km. Our time was just under 1 hour.
From Jennel: She “sucked it up” and went for a jog this morning, went down the trail behind Aspenwood – beautiful, shady and a nice wind, so she just ran back and forth. There was a nice stream for her two dogs to sip water from.
Distance was 8.4 km, very humid and she worked up a good sweat, almost jumping in the stream to cool off! Totally understandable in this weather.
Stay cool and hydrated everyone!

On Saturday morning, Kevin, Larry, Edie, Flora, René, Alex, and Esther (who trained with Alex for the Vancouver Half) met at Cameron Centre on a very humid morning and walked/ran along Beaverbrook, crossed the Gaglardi overpass and went up the Forest Grove hill and continued on to Underhill. Kevin, Alex and Esther picked some blackberries along the way – it seems there is a second crop now ripening.
At Underhill, René and Flora continued running down to the gravel pipeline trail that extends from Broadway to Production Way, then went along Gaglardi Way and through the Centaurus Circle townhouse area to Cameron Centre, their distance approximately 7 km and time about 1h25, with René’s distance 2 km more as he ran from his house to Cameron and back home after.
Alex and Esther ran down Underhill to Broadway then back up Underhill and along Forest Grove and joined Kevin, Edie and Larry and they all walked through the lower trail extending from Stoney Creek school to the main trail (more blackberry picking) and back to the Centre, their distance about 8 km and their time 1h52.
From Jennel: She got in an 11.39 km hike/walk/run with her two dogs on Friday morning, stopped at the dog park to reload the water bottles. It was a hot and muggy day, even in the morning!
Stay cool and hydrated everyone!

Liane and Flora walked up to Chapman, Larry and Glenn walked up to Gilroy, and the group returned the same way, distances ranging from 4 km to 5 km and a time of 1h03.
Ivan said hello to us at Cameron Centre as he was running with another group of about 20 or so as the group was running to Rocky Point using Stoney Creek trail and probably the Glenayre area and into Port Moody. We trust that he had some ice cream for us!
There was also another walking group using the trail so it was busy. We also said hello to Rod and Pat on the trail during our return to Cameron Centre.
From Ivan: Ivan joined the North Burnaby Runners (NBR) as they headed out to Rocky Point from Cameron Centre. We headed up the Stoney Creek trail to North Road, then up the hill to Chapman via Gilroy Crescent, landing on Clarke Road (up and down the hill) to St. Johns Street and turning left on Moody Street and over the bridge to Rocky Point.
Our distance about 6.5K and Ivan’s time 48 minutes. Ice cream was had by most, including Ivan who is also hoping the cruisers are OK with dual club-membership 😉

Saturday morning, armed with bug spray, as bugs love Kevin, we headed to Piper Spit.
It was one of those “It can’t get better than this” mornings. Showed up were Alex with recent half marathon recruit, Esther, joining us for the first time along with Kevin, Miriam, Edie, Shannon and four legged friend, Kali and Ivan and his four legged companion, Lulu.
Group walked along the Burnaby Mountain Urban trail to Government street, then to Cariboo Rd and then on the trail to Piper Spit. Esther, Alex and Flora ran 10:1. We stopped to visit with the various ducks and geese there and caught up to the others. Return trip, all 3 runners took a slight detour into a trail, with Esther returning to Cameron and Alex and Flora into a housing complex nearby.
Time- around 2 hours for walkers at 8 km with runners at 10.04 at 2:01 hours.
Thanks Flora for the update!

We beat the rain! On Wednesday evening, Larry, René, Liane, Glenn and Brenda walked the Stoney Creek trail on a cloudy evening, wondering whether we would be able to get our walk done before it started raining. That resulted in the group walking a little faster, and all the way up North Road to Chapman for everyone – distance of 5 km in a time of 55 minutes.
As we turned out of the trail and on to Beaverbrook for our walk through Cameron Park and back to the parking lot, a bit of spit from the sky started. Perfect timing!

On Monday, as it was BC Day, Larry, RA Edie, Liane, Flora, René and Alex met at Rocky Point in the morning and walked along the lower trail to the beach, then along Alderside Road to the intersection with Ioco Road, and returned the same way. Most of the route was in the shade which was very much appreciated on a hot and kind of humid day.
René, Flora and Alex jogged most of the way, and extended their route to the boat launch area in Ioco just before the refinery, their distance about 12.5 km. René’s time was about 1h45 while the rest of the group’s time was just under 2 hours.
The walkers’ distance was about 10 km. All enjoyed their reward – ice cream of various flavours!
