December 31
On Saturday morning Len, Miriam, René, Kevin, and Larry walked from Cameron Centre along the trail between Eastlake and Government St., Cariboo Road, and Joe’s trail to North Road, and returned the same way. It was kind of dark at first as the days are so short right now, but it did brighten up a bit as we continued. Very mild temperature at 10 C, enjoyable for outdoor activity.
Our distance was about 8 km and our time was about 1h50.
Happy New Year everyone! I hope 2024 brings good health and happiness to you all!

On Wednesday evening Liane, Glenn, Brenda, Kevin, Edie, and Larry walked along Beaverbrook, Eastlake, Underhill, Broadway to a shortcut walkway into the Meadowood-Woodhurst neighbourhood where we walked around and viewed the Christmas lights, of which there were some nice displays. It is a pleasant neighbourhood to walk in. We headed back to Cameron Centre the same way.
Our distance was about 7 km and our time was about 1h45. It was a nice night to be out for a walk – not too cold and the sky was clear.

On Saturday evening, the Cruisers met at Cameron Centre at 6:30 pm, so we could take in more of the Xmas house light displays and keep in the Xmas spirit. Kevin, Liane, Flora, Ross, Glenn, Brenda, Ivan, and Larry walked along Cameron, North Road, Webster, Ivy, Foster to Gatensbury where we stopped to look at the very nice light displays. At that point Ross walked home which was relatively close by, and the rest of the group continued back along Winslow, Colinet, to Cottonwood, crossed North Road, then along Casewell to Willoughby and back to the Centre.
Our distance was about 8.25 km and our time was 1h59. It was a nice evening weather wise, clear but much cooler than recently (about 0 C).
Merry Christmas everyone!

On Wednesday evening Liane, Glenn, Brenda, Kevin, Flora, Nikita, Larry, and Miriam and Len, who were there with their family and grandkids but we saw them everywhere, went to Burnaby Heritage Village Museum. After some confusion on Larry’s part as to where to meet, he was found by Flora (thank you Flora!) and joined the group as we wandered through the buildings and streets of the village, taking in the spectacular lights along the way.
It was quite a popular place to be as the place was very crowded with lots of families with excited kids. The weather was great – no rain and fairly mild, about 10 C. Not a strenuous walk by any means. We met at about 6:30 pm and left close to 8 pm.
Here are some photos of the Cruisers’ recent trip to Burnaby Heritage Village Museum (Courtesy of Flora).

Today’s report again thanks to Kevin.
On Monday evening Liane, Glenn, Brenda and Kevin met Edie at the Burquitlam Skytrain station, took the Skytrain to Inlet station and met Alex. The 6 of us then walked over to the Waves Coffee shop in the Port Moody Recreation Centre. Where Liane & Edie had ice cream while we waited for Nikita and Flora. Nikita arrived but no Flora. So Edie & Alex waited for Flora while the others went to see the music on the CP Holiday train car which was about 1/2 hr show. Flora did make it to the holiday train though. Then we watched the train leave which was very cool.
The group decided to walk to Rocky Point Ice cream. We had some nice young ladies serve us and we chatted with them while we had our ice cream. Then we walked to the Port Moody Skytrain and headed home.
After the walk I noticed that Eoin was trying to find us at the event. Unfortunately we didn’t meet up with them because it was a hugely popular event.

Today’s report again thanks to Kevin – and thanks Kevin for organizing!
On Saturday evening, Glenn, Brenda, Edie, Colleen met Flora, Ross, Liane, Len and Kevin at Starbucks at the Pan Pacific Hotel, downtown Vancouver. We didn’t see Eoin or Laura, so Flora called and left a message. We followed our route by seeing the Woodward’s displays at Canada Place. We walked to the end of the pier and had a show by a couple of Sea Lions getting on & off a wooden dock. Next stop the Ginger Bread houses at the Hyatt Regency on Burrard St. It was very busy with lots of people checking out some amazing houses. Then it was off to St. Paul’s Hospital to see the lights which was nice. We crossed Burrard St. to get a good view and take pictures.
We then headed down to Georgia St, but we were running late so we skipped the Christmas Trees at the Hotel Vancouver. However we did stop to take photos of the massive tree at the art gallery. We continued on into Gastown to the Old Spaghetti Factory. Good thing we had reservations, since there was a wait to get in.
When I checked in with the hostess she said some of my party had already arrived? To my surprise it was Laura & Eoin. They had arrived late but followed my map and did the walk. They missed St Paul’s so they could make the dinner reservation.
We all enjoyed a nice dinner. Everyone liked the Spumoni Ice cream that came with dinner. It reminded us of our youth.

On Wednesday evening Liane, Flora, Glenn, Brenda, Nikita, and Kevin met at Squint Lake. We walked to Candy Cane Lane and then walked back on some different streets. Some in the group have shared pictures. I believe our distance was 6.4 km. It was a nice night and we saw a lot of Christmas displays which everyone enjoyed.
Thanks to Kevin for organizing and for his report!

On Saturday morning René, Kevin, Liane, Edie, Flora, and Larry walked the Stoney Creek trail, up North Road to the Glenayre subdivision in Port Moody, going along Glencoe, Dundonald, Alisa, Clarke Rd., Chapman, North Road, and the trail back to Cameron Centre.
Our distance was about 8 km and our time was 1h57. Our luck with the weather continued, as it didn’t rain or snow while we walked. It only started to rain as we finished at the Centre parking lot.

On Wednesday evening Liane, Edie, Brenda, Flora, Glenn, Kevin and Larry walked along Eastlake, Production Way/Brighton, Dalebright, Government Road to Burnlake where we viewed the spectacular Christmas light display at a residence on Burnlake, then toured around the neighbourhood viewing other light displays before heading back to Cameron Centre. It was a good night for a walk – no rain and fairly mild. Our distance was 7.5 km and our time was 1h55.
From Jennel: Also on Wednesday, Jennel walked and jogged 8 km down to Town Centre in Coquitlam. She will be careful in her recovery. Good luck Jennel!
Please note the Christmas holiday season upcoming events for the Cruisers. Thanks to Kevin for suggesting them.

There was no walk/run on Monday due to the heavy rain.
Last Saturday (Dec 2) Alex ran the Gunner Shaw Memorial crosscountry 10 km race in Jericho Beach Park. His time was 1h24:15, third out of 3 in the M75-79 age group.
98 runners finished the 5 km distance (one lap) and 124 runners finished the 10 km distance (two laps). New records were set for the 5 km race in terms of finishing time and number of participants. Sunny sky and one of the warmest runs temperature wise. The youngest runner was under 10 and the oldest was 79 years old. Congratulations to Alex!!

On Saturday morning it was foggy in some areas but otherwise was surprisingly sunny after the Friday night monsoon, as Flora, Edie, Len, Miriam with Jax, Liane, and Larry met at Squint Lake parking lot and walked along Greystone, crossed Duthie and took the urban trail along Sherlock to Cliff Ave. and Hastings St., then on to Grove, Georgia St. to Kensington, where we found the Kensington outdoor pool in use with steam rising into the air, then we toured around the old and new buildings of Burnaby North Secondary School, and to my surprise discovered that the new building wasn’t in service yet, and still needed much work to get it ready for students. The old buildings will continue to be used for the remainder of the 2023-24 school year. We continued on Curtis St. to Sherlock, Greystone and back to Squint Lake Park.
Our distance was about 7.5 km and our time was 1h55.
On Friday evening, some Cruisers braved the rain (I think Kevin, Liane, Nikita, Brenda and Glenn attended) and watched the carol ships in the inlet at Rocky Point. Apparently Rocky Point ice cream was enjoyed by all!
