On Saturday morning Edie and Larry met at the parking lot of Stoney Creek School and surprisingly it did not rain during our walk of the Stoney Creek trail. As hoped for, we saw LOTS of spawning salmon, either chinook or coho I think. It was the most salmon activity I have seen in the creek in a long time. We also walked while observing the salmon – our distance was just over 3 km – from the trail entrance using the bridge from the school to the end of the trail at North Road and returned, our time 1h20.

On Monday evening Glenn, Brenda, Alex and Larry met at the mall and enjoyed a mild, rain free evening as we walked along Cardston up and around behind some apartment buildings to Lougheed Hwy, crossed at Bell Ave. and went up Cameron and back to Lougheed mall parking lot. Distance was about 2.5 km in 40 minutes.
Alex walked about 1.5 km around the mall before meeting the group and found an area where there were benches to sit, for us to consider as a meeting place.
Glenn reported that part of the wall of the gym at Cameron Centre was being torn down.
Eoin and Laura walked the Stoney Creek trail on Monday afternoon, no rain reported.
From Edie: Kevin, Liane and Edie walked Stoney Creek on Sunday afternoon. It looked like the rain was going to ease up, but it didn’t. The water was high and fast. We didn’t see any salmon but I don’t think they could have fought the current. There were a few trees down and some debris in the water. We walked 5.5 km. Looked at the doomed trees at Cameron on our way by.
See video of the current at Stoney Creek that Edie took on Sunday. Thanks for the report Edie.

On Saturday the atmospheric river rain kept most of us indoors but Flora and some of the Fit First running clinic people braved the rain. Flora did 45 minutes of interval training, changed into dry clothing and had coffee inside the Christine Sinclair Centre. She says it actually was enjoyable to run in the rain as it didn’t seem cold as long as she kept moving. We’re glad you didn’t get washed away in the water current Flora!

From Alex: On Wednesday morning Alex walked along the Rumble St. urban trail from Royal Oak to Griffiths and back, his distance 4.09 km and time 1h05.

On Wednesday evening Flora, Larry, Edie, Liane, Brenda and Glenn met at Lougheed Mall at the covered bench area, and we were thankful for that as just at the time we met, a heavy rain started pelting down, so we opted to do a mall walk. Liane, Brenda and Glenn did a few laps around the ground level of the mall while Edie, Flora and Larry stopped at the new Cameron Rec Centre and checked out the facility – it’s fairly limited in its activity offerings, mostly for the seniors’ groups but no fitness and spinning classes or racquet sports available. Flora, Edie. Larry and Liane then did three more laps around the mall, by which time the mall was closing so we exited at 7 pm to find the rain had stopped – such unpredictable weather.
From Alex: On Wednesday morning Alex jogged in the Burnaby Fraser Foreshore Park trail, distance 6.49 km in a time of 1h37.
He had much better weather than the group did in the evening!
