On Saturday morning, despite the rain, Flora did her 14th Park Run 5 km at Mundy Park in a time of 43:06 in slippery and wet conditions. Trees were no protection from the deluge of rain this time! Kudos to Flora for persevering in the miserable weather!

On Saturday afternoon Flora, Larry, and Edie did a 3 km walk along Greystone and the golf course, taking advantage of the surprise sunny weather.

On Monday evening Sandy, Liane, Glenn, Brenda, Kevin, Hazra, Rod, Edie, and Larry walked from Lougheed Mall along Beaverbrook, Eastlake to Underhill for the group, about 6 km and time just under 1 hour, while Kevin and Larry walked along the same route but turned around at the Gaglardi underpass, their distance about 3.5 km and time about 40 minutes. We were lucky with the weather, as the drizzle stopped early into our walk.

On Saturday morning there was no walk due to the rain, but on Sunday morning Edie, Liane, Rod and Hazra met at the Port Moody Rec Centre and walked through the Noon’s Creek hatchery, along the paved trail to April Road, then along the lower trail to Rocky Point where they had ice cream. Some of the seasonal flavours were gone but the grinch flavour was still available! The group then walked back to the rec centre as it started to rain, but it wasn’t too bad.

The creeks were flowing fast. Lots of other people out on the trails too. Distance was 9.77 km and time was 2h20. Thank you to Edie for the report!

Santa Hats welcome

On Wednesday evening Brenda, Glenn, Kevin, Sandy, Flora, Hazra, Rod, and Larry attended at Lougheed Mall. Somehow we missed meeting up with Hazra and Rod, and they walked around inside the mall until we thankfully caught up with them upon the group’s return from our walk. The rest of the group walked along Cameron, Beaverbrook, and Eastlake, with Flora and Larry walking to Production Way, while Brenda, Sandy, Kevin, and Glenn walked to Underhill, then we returned to the mall.

Flora and Larry’s distance was about 4 km; Brenda, Sandy, Kevin, and Glenn’s distance was about 5 km, walk time was about 50 minutes.

On Monday evening it was unexpected good weather, mild and no rain, as Glenn, Kevin, René, Hazra, Rod, and Larry met at a dark parking lot at Como Lake Park, and walked along Gatensbury to take in the lights, of which there were some nice displays, including a couple of houses that had light displays taking up their front yards.  Then we walked over to Schoolhouse Road and saw one house’s display  where the back yard, deck, house, and front yard were all lit up (address 1440 Cambridge, worth looking at), then walked back to the park.

Our distance was a leisurely 3 km, our time just under 1 hour.

There was no walk on Saturday morning due to the windstorm which left many in Burnaby and Coquitlam without power for most of the day.

However, Flora ran the Park Run 5 km at Mundy Park in a time of 40 minutes, 40 seconds, with the strong winds providing added resistance along with the hills.

Thanks for your report Flora!

On Wednesday evening it was a great night weather wise, mild and no rain or wind, as Eoin, Laura, Larry, Hazra, Rodrigo, Glenn, Brenda, Sandy, Ross, and Kevin walked from Lougheed Mall along Cameron and Beaverbrook to the Centaurus Circle-Simon Fraser Hills townhouses, looking around for Christmas light displays, of which there were some nice ones, then we walked down and along Beaverbrook to Eastlake and through Cameron Park, up to Cameron and back to the mall.

Our distance was about 5 km and our time was about 50 minutes, just over an hour for Laura, Eoin, and Larry.

On Monday evening, the Cruisers met on Dalebright Drive in the Government Road area and walked to view the Christmas lights at Burnlake and the surrounding area, walking through the streets and seeing what was there.  As usual the Burnlake house was spectacular, and there were some nice light displays on the street immediately above Burnlake.  Alex, Angela, their granddaughter Eleanor attended, as well as Kevin, Glenn, Brenda, René, Sandy, Ross, and Larry.  I

t was a good night to go, no rain and not too cold.  The group walked about 3 km in a time of 1h06.

On Saturday morning, Cruisers were busy at four places at once! Alex ran the Gunner Shaw Memorial Cross Country 10 km race at Jericho Beach Park, finishing in a time of 1h31:58, a great run! As the race started at 11 a.m., he enjoyed better weather as it cleared up in the late morning. Angela was busy volunteering, setting up and serving food at the event. Alex was cheered on by Flora, who got there after doing a Park Run earlier in the morning in steady rain at Mundy Park, her distance 5 km and time 40.05 minutes, her new personal best time from doing 11 of those runs. Meanwhile, Jennel and Heather jogged the 5 km Ugly Sweater Run in Anmore, also in steady rain. Congratulations to all of our Cruiser runners!

Starting the morning off were Edie, Liane, Kevin, and Larry as they met at the Port Moody Rec Centre as the morning light was just breaking, although still dark due to the heavy cloud cover, and it rained steadier on as they walked along the Rocky Point trail and Murray St. to Rocky Point, then return to the rec centre and a drive to the RockyPoint ice cream shop (of course!) where ice cream was enjoyed. A highlight of the walk was our first walk on the newly-opened pedestrian bridge that spans the marshy area where the trail turns onto Murray St. The bridge is not yet open to the rest of the trail on the other side. It is a huge improvement to the previous crossing.

Below are some photos of Cruisers at all the events of the day.

On Wednesday evening Glenn, Brenda, and Larry walked from Lougheed Mall along Cameron, Beaverbrook and into the Centaurus Circle area of townhouses, as some of them had nice Chrstmas light displays. It was also a quiet area, not much traffic. Our distance was about 4 km and our time was just under 1 hour. No rain either, a nice night to be out.

From Jennel: On Sunday Jennel ran 3 km, Heather walked 5 km; on Monday Jennel walked 8 km, saw three deer and squirrels; all in preparation for their run on Saturday.

On Monday evening it was cooler weather but no rain as Brenda, Glenn, Flora, Liane, Sandy, Ross, Kevin, and Larry walked from Lougheed Mall along Cameron, Beaverbrook, Noel Drive, where Larry and Kevin continued up Lyndhurst to Willoughby and back to the mall, distance about 4 km and time about 45 minutes, and the rest of the group continued along Noel, Norcrest, Still Creek, North Road, Lyndhurst and Noel again, distance about 6 km and time about 1 hour.

On Saturday morning Edie, Larry, and René walked from Edie’s place along Grover, Regan, Cornell to Como Lake Park, walked a lap around the lake, then returned the same way, our distance 4 km and time about 1 hour. Flora ran the 5 km Park Run at Mundy Park.

On Saturday evening Kevin, Alex, Angela, Larry, Brenda, Glenn, Nikita, and Edie went to Rocky Point to view the lighted carol ships that came into the pier area. There were about 20 ships, all with interesting light displays. Not much carolling but there was live music in the pier area, and lots of tents with various items for sale, and food trucks, and a bonfire. We opted to get ice cream and coffee at Rocky Point Ice Cream of course. The weather was great – not too cold and no rain or wind.

Here’s the gang that attended the Rocky Point carol ships

It’s a busy upcoming weekend for some Cruisers – Jennel and Heather are doing the Ugly Sweater Run in Anmore, Flora is doing the Rudolph Run at Mundy Park, and Alex is doing the Gunner Shaw memorial cross country race at Jericho Beach Park! We wish them all the best! Feel free to attend one of these events to cheer them on.
