On Wednesday evening Kevin, Edie, Rod, Hazra, Liane, René, Glenn, Brenda, and Larry walked along Cameron and Beaverbrook. Liane and Brenda walked on Eastlake to Underhill and returned, their distance about 6 km and time about 1h05; René, Rod, Hazra, Kevin, Glenn, Edie, and Larry walked past the Stoney Creek school and across the Gaglardi overpass, where Edie, Larry, and Hazra turned back. their distance about 4 km and time just under 1 hour; Glenn, Kevin, Rod, and René walked from the overpass along Forest Grove, Production Way to Eastlake, then returned, their distance about 5 km, Rod and René’s time about 1h10 and Glenn and Kevin’s time about 1h15.

It was a great evening to be out – no rain or wind, and at least 10 C.

On Monday evening, the forecasted heavy rain and strong wind didn’t arrive until very late at night, and at walking time it was mild with no wind or rain, so Kevin and Larry soldiered on our walk from Lougheed Mall along Cameron, Beaverbrook, Noel Drive, Lyndhurst, Willoughby, Morrey Court, and back to the mall, about 4.5 km and time about 50 minutes.

A bit surprising that conditions were so good – must be that Cruiser luck! We were able to see that at the Cameron Rec Centre site there is now a big pit and a crane has been set up. Just how high is the new rec centre going to be? Looks like construction will soon be under way.

On Saturday morning we avoided the rain yet again as Edie, Kevin, Larry, Hazra, Rod, and Liane walked from Burnaby Mountain golf course to Duthie, the urban trail through Westridge area to Sperling, then returned via Union, urban trail, Greystone, and back to the golf course, our distance about 6 km and time about 1h15.

Coffee/tea/water enjoyed at the coffee shop afterwards.

Thank you wonderful sponsors, walkers and supporters for supporting us in our Coldest Night of the Year walk. Together we raised $2,380 This money will be used to support and serve people and families experiencing homelessness, hurt, and hunger in our community. In particular the money that we raised will go to the Society to End Homelessness in Burnaby that I volunteer for on most Thursdays. Thank you for your support!

Here are pictures of our walk. We did our walk on Saturday afternoon/evening.

On Wednesday evening Edie, Liane, Sandy, Kevin, Hazra, Rod, and Larry met at Lougheed Mall and walked our usual route along Cameron, through Eastlake Park, and Eastlake. Kevin, Hazra, Larry and Edie walked to Production Way and back, their distance about 5 km and time about 1h10, and Rod and Liane walked to Underhill and back, their distance about 6 km and time 1h15. Amazingly, it did not rain while we walked, even though it rained both before and after our walk.

Congratulations to Team Canada for defeating Team USA in the 4 Nations Face Off hockey tournament on Thursday evening.

On Monday morning Edie, Kevin, Larry, Liane, Hazra, Rod, and Alex met at the Burnaby Mountain golf course and walked to Duthie, and continued on the urban trail to Kensington shopping centre (where Liane made a quick shopping diversion into Safeway) and returned the same way, our distance about 6 km and time about 1h15. Alex continued his jog to Kensington Rink and followed the group back, his distance 7.78 km and his time 1h31. We attempted to go for coffee at the golf course coffee shop but it was closed. First time it’s been closed that I can recall.

From Jennel: Jennel walked/jogged a total of 13 km on Tuesday morning, with her dogs for part of it, then dropped off the dogs and continued around her area of Coquitlam.

On Saturday morning, Kevin, Edie, Liane, René, Len with Jax, and Larry met at the Port Moody Rec Centre and walked along the paved trail to Old Orchard Beach, then came back the same way and continued on to Murray St. using the sidewalk as the gravel and paved trails were icy and hard packed snow in areas, evidently not much clearing and sanding done, and made our way to the Rocky Point ice cream shop where new varieties of chocolate ice cream flavours were popular. Our distance was 6.2 km, moving time was 1h25, thanks to Len’s stats! It didn’t rain, which was a bit surprising.

Also on Saturday morning: Alex ran a route around the Central Park area, doing 5 km around the Trail of Hope in 49 minutes, his total distance 6 km in 1h03. The trail was about 2 km of packed snow, 1.5 km of cleared trail, and 1.5 km of melted snow and ice. Challenging conditions indeed! Flora jogged 6 km with the Fit First group, going from Christine Sinclair Centre along the paved trail that runs along the Skytrain route.

From Jennel: Jennel jogged 5.6 km using cleared sidewalks as the trails were still icy in her part of Coquitlam. Let the thawing continue!

There were no evening walks this week due to the cold and icy conditions, but many Cruisers walked various routes during the day, taking advantage of the glorious sunshine we’ve been blessed with.

From Jennel: Jennel’s been out walking with her dogs, going to Aspenwood then up Stoneridge which is a big hill. 8.22 km.

On Saturday morning Len with Jax, Liane, Kevin, Edie, and Larry met at Christine Sinclair Centre and walked along Kensington Ave. and the trail that runs alongside the Skytrain route parallel to Lougheed Hwy., to a point just before Douglas Road, then returned using Sperling trail to Kensington. Our distance was about 4.5 km and our time was about 1h10. Flora and Nikita walked-ran 5 km with the Fit First group and we all had coffee afterwards at the Centre.

It was a cloudy sky but the sun was poking through, and at 0 C there was some ice out there but the trail was salted and cleared. Alex jogged 6.08 km in a time of 59 minutes, doing a route around the Central Park area.
