On Saturday morning Kevin, Liane, Larry, Len and Miriam with Jax, and Edie met at the Port Moody Rec Centre and walked on the Rocky Point park trail to Old Orchard Park and continued to Alderside. Edie, Kevin, Larry, Len and Jax turned back about halfway along Alderside and walked to Rocky Point park and the ice cream shop, and were soon joined by Liane and Miriam, who had walked on Alderside to April Road and Ioco Road, then returned the same way. Refreshments were enjoyed by the group, then we walked back to the rec centre. The weather was good – it only misted rain occasionally.
Distance for Miriam and Liane was 10 km, and for the rest of the group 7.8 km according to Len’s tracker. Our walk time was estimated at 1h45.
Also on Saturday morning, Alex did a Park Run at Central Park in Burnaby, targeting some runners he wanted to keep pace with, and passing them to do his 5 km run in a zip fast time of 39 minutes and 51 seconds! On Wednesday evening Kevin, Edie, Glenn, Brenda, Liane, and Larry walked on the Stoney Creek trail. A bit of adventure for the evening – Kevin, Glenn, Brenda and Liane were a bit ahead of Edie and Larry on the trail, and saw a big black bear in a tree across the creek from the trail, about three quarters of the way to North Road, so they high-tailed it back to the Broadway-Como Lake underpass and detoured up to Norcrest and Noel Drive and took that route to Beaverbrook and back to the mall.
Larry and Edie did not see the bear, but had already turned back on the trail and continued back to Beaverbrook. Brenda and Liane returned to the mall first, their time about 1 hour and distance about 5 km, followed by Larry and Edie, distance about 4.5 km and time about 1h10, then Glenn and Kevin, distance about 5 km and time about 1h15.
It only rained lightly towards the end of our walk, and there was daylight (yay!!) for most of our walk.
