Rod, Rene, Alex, Laura, RA Edie and Bobtoc ran Monday from the Centre along the Stoney Creek trail to North Road, east on Chapman Ave to Robinson, south to Ebert, west to North Road and on to Cameron Centre. Time for Rene, Rod and Alex about 55 minutes; for the others, who met Chris Turner of the former Tony’s Toddlers running group aw a-a-a-a-y back, a realtor who is handiing the Johnson residence on Quadling in Coquitlam. It was great to see him. Time for Laura, Edie and Bobtoc therefore 1:03. The runners enjoyed a warm, almost muggy evening, the best of the year.
Alex provides more information on the Saturday April 21 run:
I ran 5.2 Km from Cameron Centre to Production Way University Skytrain Station via Eastlake Dr. and back to the Centre via Government Road and the trail before joining the rest of the Cruisers to Joe’s trail. After coming back from the Joe’s trail , I directed my run to one round of Burnaby Lake trails clockwise then back to Cameron Rec Centre to complete my first week of tapering run. Total time out 2:47 hours for a distance of 23Km.
On Wednesday evening Rod, Libby, René, Leo, Tracy, Adele and Larry turned up and were able to get their activity in before the rain drops fell again. Rod and Libby ran along Eastlake to Underhill and down through the Forest Grove route, over the overpass and back to the Centre. René and Leo ran to the corner of Lake City and Broadway where the path turns up to the golf course and were Good Samaritans, helping out a woman cyclist who had lost traction on the pavement and had fallen down. An ambulance was called and the woman received medical care and likely was taken to hospital. Thanks René and Leo for helping out! The two then ran back to Cameron Centre. Tracy, Larry and Adele went for a brisk walk along the trail behind Cameron Centre, up the woods-trail to the gravel trail along the base of Burnaby Mtn., then down North Road and return. Time out for everyone, pretty close to 1 hour. Nice to see some people we haven’t seen in awhile…always welcome.

Hi Bob,
I was not well prepared to run the 116th Boston Marathon especially since I had little or no training in the last 4 months. My longest run was the “First Half” race in Feb 2012 where I finished in just over 2 hrs and 3 minutes. I had injured my back in June 2011 and had suffered sciatica down my left leg for over 8 months. Then, on January 4th I herniated my L5-S1 vertebrae and suffered severe back pain till I had my back surgery on March 1/12. The Boston Marathon was always one of my dreams to finish and it was on my bucket list. I was determined more than ever to complete this race and get her done.

> The heat was 87-89 degrees Fahrenheit on race day. My plan was to run the first half and walk the second half. I caught the bus at 6:30 AM from Boston to Hopkington and arrived at the Athlete’s Village. My race started at 10:20 and the excitement was everywhere. I ran every mile to Wellesley College and walked at every water station. People were handing out slices of oranges and spraying the crowds with their sprinklers and water hoses to cool us down. There was even a station handing out small cups of beer. After reaching the half way point I decided to jog/walk the rest of the way. My back was holding up but my legs felt like concrete.
> Through dogged perserverance and determination I finished the Boston Marathon in 5 hrs 13 minutes and 33 seconds.

Special Thanks to Edie , Laurie and Debra for the special words of encouragement when I wasn’t sure I was going to make it to the starting line during the time I was having severe back pain in January and February. This marathon is special is so many ways. Memories to cherish for a lifetime for sure….
