Inaugural Jingle Bell Jog 5k December 4th
Seven Cruisers ran/walked Monday from the Centre. Damien brought his Mom Valerie to walk with Edie and her two gorgeous dogs to Underhill and Broadway before returning, while Damien was in the gym with his Dad and the other kids. Rene, Sayeeda, Sherian, Rod and Bob headed out to Forest Grove Drive via the Gaglardi overpass, then west to Underhill, Shellmont, west to Meadowood to Woodhurst, onto Broadway headed east and return via the usual route. The first three ran like a dose of salts while the older chaps ran at a more sedate pace. Distance 7.4 km, times 1:00 to 1:12. The seven enjoyed a cool but no precip evening. Life is good.
Eight Cruisers ran/walked Wednesday on a cold winter’s night from the Centre. RA Edie and Laura, accompanied by Edie’s dogs April and Bella, opted to walk to Underhill and Broadway before returning. Runners Chris Keeling, Rene’, Rod, Larry, Libby and Bobtoc also took the familiar route west, with Chris and Rene’ running to the IGA corner, returning to join the other four who ran up Shellmont, the six then returning to the Centre via Forest Grove Drive, the Gaglardi pedestrian overpass to the Beaverbrooks and return. Distances for the first two approx 10k, the others 9k, times 1:10 and 1:18 respectively. The temperature at run’s end was zero, so the runners needed to watch their steps carefully.
On Saturday seven Cruisers ran from Cameron Centre on a plus 3 morning to the end of Joe’s Trail and back to complete 7.5k. Renee was back first with Laura, Owen, Rod, Rachel, Edie and Flora following. Rod and Edie wore Santa hats and Rod had on his green shorts to add to his festive attire. After the run, Flora, Ross, Edie, Laura and Owen met at Joey’s on Austin for coffee. Ross is getting over his cold and plans to be back on Monday. A lovely morning for a run (and a little walking
). Rod had a field hockey game at 1:30 pm at Hamber.
On Sunday, Larry, Edie and Laurie met at Coquitlam Centre to run in the INAUGURAL Jingle Bell Jog on a beautiful -2 Sunday morning. Before we ran, we cheered in the Fatigus
o family. Reluctant runner, Tony, along with Jennel, Anamaria and Sofia in the stroller completed the 1k reindeer run. After a brief hello, the Fatigusos were off so Tony could participate in his true sport, volleyball, in a 12 hour tournament. Ruby and Neil also participated in the run with Ruby decked out as Mrs. Santa. The scenic route took us along the Canada Trail, by Lafarge Lake through Douglas College parking lot and back to Coquitlam Centre. Ruby won a coffee gift prize, Neil won a Vancity bag of goodies, Laurie won a bag and Larry won a set of glasses which he donated back to Share. Edie won the admiration of the crowd by crossing the finish line upright and smiling. This was a fun event for a good cause that Cruisers might want to put on their running events for next year. Laurie, Larry and Edie all have Santa hats with sequins so we’re now stylin’ Cruisers and we had our photos taken by the Now. Great shirts, too. I know Bob missed the event because there were no medals……
