Sherian is busy crosstraining for her Melissa run by hiking up Grouse Mountain with the Edmonds Group. Also biking, running, walking……Little Energizer Bunny!

Monday’s run report:
Eight Cruisers came out on a Muggy Monday to get in a run as the rain luckily subsided for us. Larry, Rod, Laura, Edie, Alex, Val, Tracy and Sayeeda ran Joe’s Trail to the North Road gate, then returned to Cameron Centre. As said, it was a tad humid but there were no mosquitoes. Is it the end of summer?? Say it ain’t so! We ran 7.5 km or so, time out about 55 minutes, and there was plentiful persperation. Hopefully the sun will return on Wednesday.

Six runners turned out on Wednesday – Alex, Larry, Rod, Sayeedah, Laura and Edie who all did a variation on a well-travelled route, running along Eastlake, up Arden to the trails that lead to the Burnaby Mtn. golf course clubhouse, then on a dare ran up Shellmont (!) and then trotted along the trail behind Forest Grove school, down Forest Grove (but not backwards – it’s too tough to go downhill backwards), across the Gaglardi overpass and you know the rest. There was a cool breeze for parts of the run, but it was warm, not that we’re complaining about summer weather. It was a somewhat hilly route but we got it done.
The blackberries are ripening and in some areas are ready for picking. There were pickers already out, and Rob Stagg will be relieved to know that we did not see any pickers competing with any bears!

Nine Cruisers met Saturday at Rocky Point in Port Moody on a sublime morning: weather, temperature, scenery, you name it. Alex, Larry, RA Edie, Laurie, Laura, Rachel, Rod and Norman ran to the Ioco refinery gates and return, time 1:20, distance 12 km. Some of the guys on the return leg used a portion of the railroad track, terming it the faller’s trail. No stumbles occurred however. Bobtoc, still injured from his fall of a few weeks ago ran to April Point solo and return, time 1:31, distance 8.5 km.

August 20th to 28th, Trip Report and pictures: Cariboo, Green Lake, Sheridan Lake to Kamloops and Cash Creek Loop Bike Ride

On most of my bike rides we like to stop at all the bakeries, a lot of restaurants, all the view points to take pictures and we also like to take lots of breaks. If we get some exercise in the process, that is a bonus. This trip however was very tough with all the hills! We also had some very hot days. One hot day with lots of hills, Rick, Debbie and Miriam were wondering what they signed up for and were planning a mutiny! In the end we were all happy that we did this scenic enjoyable loop. Rick did super considering this was only his second bike ride in the month, although he used to do more cycling many years ago.

We started at Shirley and Jerry’s cabin on Green Lake and then cycled to Bette and Trevor’s cabin on Sheridan Lake, where we met fellow TELUS morning runners Rick and Debbie. Here is a link to our pictures. Then we cycled down to Little Fort, Westsyde (Just north of Kamloops), Savona, Cash Creek, Clinton, 70 mile house and back to Green Lake. Total distance was 417 km and total elevation gain was 4398 meters (almost ½ the height of Everest or about 5 Grouse Grinds). Below are the daily distances and elevation gains.

Day 1 to Sheridan Lake: 74 km, 725 meter elevation gain.

Day 2 to Little Fort: 67 km, 672 meter elevation gain and 1432 meter elevation lost.

Day 3 to Westsyde ( just north of Kamloops); 84 km, 668 meter elevation gain.

Day 4 to Savona: 67 km, 787 meter elevation gain.

Day 5 to Clinton: 69 km, 1036 meter elevation gain.

Day 6 to Green Lake, 57 km, 581 meter elevation gain.
