Fourteen Cruisers met at the Centre Monday at 6:30 pm. Walkers Adele, Tracy and Larry headed for the Stoney Creek trail, north on North Road to Gilroy Crescent, then onto Chapman Avenue from which they retraced their steps back to the Centre; time one hour, distance 4.5 km. The eleven runners headed west on our usual route onto Arden and Greystone, some turning back at Meadowood, with the majority turning into the trail at the foot of Shellmont into the playing fields, golf course and Squint Lake before returning to the Centre. The eleven formed into different distance groups. Those that ran to Squint Lake and return utilized times of 1:15 to 1:20 total times and covered 11.5 kms. The eleven were: Rene, Sharon, Sayeeda, Carla, Shiraz, Eoin, Laura, Alex, Bobtoc, Alice and R A Edie plus her gorgeous dog April. The group enjoyed the best night of the year so far, truly a summer evening.
Wednesday: Libby, Norman and Alex ran from Cameron Centre. They were planning about a 5k run. It was Norman’s second run of the day! Larry, Edie, Bob, Ryan, Rod, Valerie and Damien went to Tim Horton’s for coffee. Damien is one handsome little mini Cruiser and spent his time charming the rest of us. I can’t say who ate lardballs because what happens at Tim’s, stays at Tim’s……… You guilty ones know who you are.
Five Cruisers turned out Saturday morning, four to arrange for transportation Sunday morning for the Scotiabank Half, and one to run. Alex, Larry, Rod and Bobtoc convened at Tim Horton’s for the Sunday transportation arrangements, and Verna, having no one to run with, joined the foursome at Timmie’s for coffee. The five had a great time.
On Sunday eight ran the Scotia Half. Stats follow. The eight, plus athletic supporters Nancy Stagg, Angela Lau who chauffeured and cheered at the race enjoyed perfect weather for the Half; sun, breeze, ideal temperature and cheerful volunteers without whom no one can stage a run. Steve King again was the announcer for the race, his skills from various Marathons and the Sun Run make him the best in the business.
The Cruisers were cheered on by Sherian Kelly, Christina and John Saremba, who cycled from their homes and encouraged the runners on their journey from the start to finish line. Thanks to the wheeled trio!
The Cruisers and athletic supporters rounded out the race by enjoying brunch at the Eagle Creek Pub, Burnaby Mountain Golf Course, re-fueling the body and replacing electrolytes.
