Monday Evening Run – World’s Best Running Group
Everybody but Tracy in the photo ready to hit the road running or walking
Monday: Fourteen Cruisers or hanger-on like Ross Johnson met Monday on a warm, autumn evening, probably the best evening of the year. Leaves were on the ground, the air was fresh, and the fourteen were of good humour. The walkers for the evening were: Adele, Tracy, 1.05, Larry and Norman, 1:05, Edie, Bobtoc, Rod, combination of walking and some running, 1.09, Flora and Ross Johnson, 1.00, runners Rene, Shiraz, Rachel, Carla and Alex, 1,00 , in various combinations. The two old guys noted improvement in their left legAchilles tendon area. The route for the evening was Forest Grove Drive counter-clockwise using the Gaglardi pedestrian overpass, Underhill, Eastlake and return.
Wednesday: Six Cruisers met for a run, run/walk or walk Wednesday evening and enjoyed a mild temperature and some cloud cover. Sayeeda, Rene and Alex ran the Cliff Ronning route which is west on Government Street, Government Road, Piper Avenue, return via Lake City Way, Broadway, Eastlake etc to the Centre, time ranging from 53 to 55 minutes, distance 9 km. Sayeeda is nursing an ITBand which is giving some discomfort; a month still to the NYC marathon. Larry was the solitary walker who confined his walk through to Eastlake and Underhill before returning to the Centre, his time also about 55 minutes.
Septenarians Rod and Bobtoc walked and ran to the Cliff Ronning route also, out approx 30 minutes before returning, going north on Production Way (Brighton) to Eastlake through to the Centre, their time 1:07, distance 6.6km, having run fairly slowly an estimated 2/3rds the distance and the remainder walking. The two are recovering from injured Achilles tendon area in their left legs. These two older chaps were clad in ensembles of identical outfits: red long-sleeved technical shirts with white collars and stripes on the sleeves by Scotiabank, jet black technical shorts by Costco accessorized by red and white caps by Penticton’s Peach City Runners & Nordic Ski and white cotton ankle socks. Lighting for their run was provided by Rod’s clutch halogen-bulb hand-held flashlight. The two were prepared for photographs but no paparazzi were onsite, also Bobtoc’s gunpowder flash could not be lit due to lack of lucifers and Rod was out of Kodak 110 black and white film.
Sharon also is in recovery mode from the Achilles tendon area, left leg, but will run the Kelowna Half this weekend. Good luck Sharon.
Thanksgiving:
Seven Cruisers were active on Sunday Oct 10 in Portland and Kelowna respectively; Rob, Norman and Rick in the Portland full, Debra, Christina and Edie in the Portland half, and Sharon in the Okanagan Half. The Portland competitors were rained on big- time for the duration of their events while the Okanagan competitors woke up to rain which cleared off race time. The Portland runners were cheered on by soggy ‘athletic supporters” Marie, John, Linda, Chris, Bobtoc and Larry, the latter two being involuntary novices to standing, cheering and waiting. Kudos in spades to Christina and Edie for their organzing of hotel, Amtrack, meal reservations and a myriad of stuff for the weekend.
