Sunday: Laurie and Edie went to the Run for the Cure, Laurie as athletic supporter and Edie running the 5k. A well organized fun event with lots to do and see and a cast of thousands raising money and awareness for cancer. A run to honour cancer survivors and remember others, a very emotional day.

Saturday: Five Cruisers met Saturday 8:00 am at the Centre. Runners Alex, Rachel and Shiraz ran west and south to Government Street, continuing through to Government Road to Piper Avenue, did a bit of a roundabout, hit Piper again then returned. Distance about 9km, time about one hour. The injured parties Rob and Bobtoc walked west and south also to Cariboo Road, onto Joe’s Trail, out 30 minutes then on the return leg ran slowly (a fitting pace for older chaps in recovery mode) for maybe 600 metres interspersed within the walk. The five enjoyed perfect weather for their run/walks.
Wednesday evening addendum:
Young Hood Causes Disruption to Cruisers!
A young hood arrived at the west door of Cameron Centre about 6:30 pm Wednesday in a four wheeled convertible buggy powered by parents Richard and Val. The young Hood’s features were partially disguised by a knitted toque with body covered in babe blankets. The Hood was identified as a 10 day old male, approx 21 inches long, approx 8 lbs, of high maintenance requiring refueling every three or four hours. Whilst the young Hood was sleeping in his vehicle, he managed to capture the Cruisers with his good looks. Parents Richard and Val coping well. They reported the young Hood is a keeper. No damage was done to the Cruisers in this encounter other than expansion of hearts. No charges are contemplated.

Wednesday: Thanks to Rachel for her report:
Rachel, Libby, Rene and Shiraz ran the Forest Grove route, counter-clockwise, starting at Beaverbrook, past the Stoney Creek Elementary School then up the Gaglardi pedestrian overpass, what a steep climb up that is at the beginning! The foursome continued round the Forest Grove Drive “horn”, proceeded west to Underhill then the usual return. Met up with walkers Flora and Ross, who proceeded via Cameron Street to Eastlake, near the end of our run and walked with them for a few minutes. Rene and Shiraz did some interval work which they quite enjoyed, and Libby and I brought up the rear. Time out for Shiraz and Rene was around 50 minutes, and for Libby and I about 53. Libby can perhaps report on distance more accurately, but I think about 6km?

Congratulations to Stormin’ Norman’ for Half Marathon results Sunday Sept 26th!
I had a good race this morning in South Surrey. Finished in 1:45:38!! I finished 25th overall out of 168 runners. The course features many underlating hills. The clouds were threatening but the rain held off for us during the race. Furthermore, I was lucky enough to win a Cactus Club gift certificate worth $50.00!! a great day.. Norman
Not to be outdone, Sharon reported her last run before tapering:
Monday:
Monday I thought I should do the missed weekend run, as it will be the last long run before the start line of the Half Marathon in 13 days…. so I headed out this afternoon. I tackled what Karen and I have always thought as The Dreaded 10k Pole run… run from our driveway along Winston out to the high rises before Lougheed Mall and back; time 1:10k, HUMID!

Monday evening’s Cliff Ronning run by Carla, Edie and Rene, reported by Edie:
Hi, I mapped out our route, Cameron to Winston to Brighton to Government to Piper to Lougheed to Lake City Way to Broadway and back to Cameron via the usual route – 7.93k – let’s call it 8. Time out – 0ne hour. A nice route, very wet but warm. I was glad to have a hot shower and dry clothes, now for dinner! Thanks for the run! Edie.
Monday evening’s walk reported by Larry:
Flora, Ross and Larry walked into Coquitlam, going up Foster to Fairview, turning south for a bit, then headed west again along Ivy and Webster back to North Road, down Cameron, around the back of the library
and into Cameron Centre. A wee bit of rain (!), but it did lessen from the monsoon that was in full gear just before we headed out. Maybe not the best night of the year, and it does get better than this, but we got at ‘er and got ‘er done, about 4.5 km in just under one hour. We met up with the runners who returned to the Centre just after we finished.
