Monday: Happy 1st Anniversary with the Cruisers, Alex. Pictured to the right is one of Alex’s first runs last July. Larry and Tracy walked down the Stony Creek Trail, while RodAlex,Lora, Shiraz, Edie and Carla ran the Stony Creek Trail, walked/ran up North Road, ran Chapman to Robinson, to Ebert then down the last street that I can’t remember the name ofto Cameron. We were out about 47 minutes for 7.3k on one of the first summery nights of the year. We spent some of the time encouraging Lora in her goal of running a half marathon in Kelowna with Rod and Sharon. No shortage of advice givers en route! We missed our leader and his friend, Harvey, butunderstand he was icing his injury with his legup, reading the newspaper and watching soccer as advised on Saturday by the wannabe elite medical team of Dr. Rod, Physio Alex and Nurse Edie. Alas, we didn’t have our authentic medics, Sayeeda, Norman and Flora to guide us.
Wednesday: Eight Cruisers headed for the shade of the Stoney Creek trail, North Road, Chapman Avenue in Coquitlam. Runners Alex, Lora, Rod and Shiraz continued east to Robinson Avenue across Clarke Road, turned south to Ebert Avenue then returned to the Centre; time and distance 48 minutes, 7 km. Walkers Edie, Laurie Hilborn, now freed from the bonds of a job due to her recent retirement, Larry and Bobtoc who is nursing a sore Achilles tendon walked from Chapman Avenue, then south on Gilroy, back to North Road and the Stoney Creek trail, time out one hour. Temperature, +32C.
Saturday: Six Cruisers met at Rocky Point and headed on the usual route through to the beach on the north side. The six enjoyed a 23C morning, some cloud cover, a soft breeze, a welcome relief from the heat experienced recently. Larry and Bobtoc walked, Bob still nursing Achilles tendonitis. The duo walked 1:30, destination Alderside Road, turned in the 1000 block for the return. Rene, Alex and Edie ran to April Road, Alex putting on a bit more mileage due to turning back to check the walkers; time for him and Edie, 1:13, distances respectively approx 11 km and 9km; time for Rene somewhat less, distance approx 9 km. Rod continued his run into the Ioco township area then north toward the White Pine Beach, but developed a niggling pain in the Achilles tendon area, therefore walked much of the distance back; his total time 2:45. The Rocky Point park area plus the trails were busy; picnics, water park for the children, walkers, runners, dogs. Alex, Edie, Larry and Bobtoc relaxed on the new Adirondack chairs supplied by the City of Port Moody, overlooking the view toward the north past the site of the former Teflon Tetons, or as Edie identifies the site, Madonna’ s bra, and caught some rays and good conversation. All in all a good morning.
