Six rwalkers and unnners met at and walked or ran from the Centre Monday on a warm, 20C and muggy evening. RA Edie and Carla walked Edie’s dogs Bella and April, and runners Alex, Sharon, Tom Jung and Bob turned west and headed toward the north trail of Burnaby Lake, the object being to go 30 minutes out and return. This was the first time Tom had been near Burnaby Lake, therefore the walk/run turned out to be a show of Burnaby Lake’s water, the beaver houses, a view from the newly-built observation “tower” which provides a commanding view of the lake. Time out for the leisurely time, 1:08 for the runners, plus time and talk during the stretch after the walk and run. Life is good
“Hills? What hills? Why? Explain it to me again how hills are good for me? I forget.”
.Wenesday: Bobtoc saw off six runnners from the Centreon a lovely evening (no rain). Lora, Shiraz, RA Edie and Libby ran Forest Grove backwards to Underhill and returned via Eastlake – time out 52 for Shiraz and Lora and 58 for Edie and Libby – 6.5k. The keeners, Sharon and Tom, ran to Shellmount through the Meadowood area, where Bob is going to buy us a clubhouse (get on that!), back to Cameron via Arden and Eastlake and did about 9k. Even though the hills were tough for most of us last night, we did our best and returned upright and happy to our favourite tree to stretch. Until Saturday……….
Five runners: RA Edie, Rod, Sharon, Tom Jung and Bobtoc set off from the Burnaby Lake Rugby Club parking lot at 8 on a rainy, +5C morning to Deer Lake via Kensington to Canada
Way into the Carousel area, circumvented Deer Lake, enjoyed the rhododendruns and azaleas, returned to the Burnaby Lake parking lot via Sperling, north of the fire hall to the Kensington bridge over the freeway, and then set off north on the newly-paved old Sperling Avenue road, headed west on the Central Valley trail, ran as far as Willingdon Avenue before returning. Time and distance, 2:17 , 17.5 km, with showers all the way.
