Eight runners met at the Burnaby Lake parking lot for an 8:00 am run Monday under showery skies, which dried up midway through the run, and in cool temperatures. Alex, Edie, Flora, Larry, Rick, Rod, Tish and Bobtoc circumnavigated the lake, time 1:23 and distance 11 km at leisurely speeds, with Rick covering more ground than the other seven. A bonus for Bob was meeting Ed, Ernie and Tony from the Eileen Dailly running group, with whom great discussion was carried on.
Alex reports on his weekend lsd in preparation for the Vancouver Marathon
as follows:
With 10 other runners, we left Brockton Oval at 8:00am ( parking at Stanley Park went up again as of April 1 from $2.00 per hour to $2.50 per hour. Each of us has to spend $10.00 for a 4 hour run.) We ran anti-clockwise one lap around the seawall; then 2 laps around Lost Lagoon; then ran along the Stanley Park Causeway Road towards the Lions Gate Bridge twice. (Did not run cross the bridge because one of the runners is afraid of height). Finished with a big loop; East on Beach Avenue and Pacific Blvd; North on Carrall St. then West on Cordova Street, new convention centre, Westin Bayshore Hotel and back to Brockton Oval at Stanley Park. Time : 3Hrs 50 min. distance : 31.2Km. cloudy sky, windy and chilly but no rain.

Cruisers stayed away in droves from the Centre on a sodden, dark and cold Wednesday evening. Rod, RA Edie, Bobtoc, destined for a study session a
t Timmie’s due to tapering for Sunday, were joined by Larry, togged out in runner’s gear, alas with no one to run with. The four armchaired their next run on Sunday, rising to heights not likely to be attained at Gibsons.
Good news, however, was that Anita and Bobtoc put in an hour plus in their runs at the Sun Run Clinic Wednesday am at Burnaby Lake. All was not lost.

Saturday: Four runners met Saturday morning at the Centre for a run. Shiraz, Rachel Lindquist, Tom Jung and Flora ran to the IGA corner and back in the leislurely time of 1:20, distance 9.5 k. Half marathoners Rod, Larry and Bobtoc met at Tim Horton’s for race packet pickeup from Rod, who did pickup duties for many of the group. Kudos to Rod.
Sunday: April Fools run Gibsons to Davis Bay beach, Sechelt. Twelve Cruisers, Poco or Telus runners so well-known to us ran the half on a gorgeous, sunny Sunday morning in the well-organized, well-volunteered run on the Sunshine Coast. The course was same as last year, full of undulating hills on a scenic route. Times for some, including the writer, were no screaming hell, due to insufficient training or for medical or vacation reasons, but some posted good times. A number of runners, with three athletic supporters Paul Hilborn, Chris Nicol and Niel Ferguson capped the event with lunch at the Lighthouse pub in Sechelt. Kudos big-time for the organizers of the April Fools half, who again produced a high quality, friendly event.
Times were as follows:
Jeff May 1:45:36
Nathalie May 1:49:07
Rick Davidson 1:57:39
Debra Nicol 1:53, 35, only 2 minutes short of first place in her age group
Ruby Ferguson 1:57:38, third in her age group

Rod Hargreaves 2:20:56
Larry Kuhn 2:23:52
Laurie Hilborn 2:38:33
Libby Covernton 2:38:33
Christina Saremba 2:38:42
Bobtoc 2:45:02, third in his age group
Edie Kernighan 2:53:29
