Saturday – Hallowe’en & long distance runs. Welcome back, Gi-Nyun, photographer! Vancouver Whitecaps “Old Farts” team centre forward Bob Kuhn prepares to pass the ball (hopefully to one of his own men).
Monday: Well. Blow me down! Ten Cruisers moved west from the Centre on a windy, cold but no precip evening toward the IGA corner amid fallen leaves and a few branches on the pathway near the Shellmont corner.. Lynn and Al walked west, not sure of their turn-around or time. Lora Delorme, RA Edie and Laurie ran as far as Underhill and Broadway before returning via Forest Grove, time 49 minutes, while Carla, Chris Conn, Sayeeda, Rod and Bob ran to the IGA corner and return, distance 9.5 km, time 1.04 for the first three and 1.08 for Rod and Bobtoc.
Our Cruiser walkers Lynn and Al on Monday evening logged 6.92 km, time 58.51, on their trek toward the IGA corner. They bucked the headwind walking west, but noted zip tailwind on the way back, same as the runners. They enjoyed the visibility, lights in South Burnaby.
Six runners including run leader Tracy : Alex, RA Edie, Libby, Lora and Tish, ran Wednesday evening from the Centre to the IGA corner, returning via Shellmont to Forest Grove Drive, east to the Gaglardi pedestrian overpass thence to the Centre; distance per Libby’s GPA, 10.18, although Alex and Tracy ran longer distances due to bobturning to ensure everyone’s safety; time, about 1.15. Both Tracy and Edie commented on no rain, just thick fog. Funny how the fog sogs running clothes… Per Tracy, all the runners had fun. Thanks Tracy for your leadership.
Saturday Cruiser walkers Lynn and Al met the runners at Cameron Centre at 8.00 am. Their goal was 18+ km utilizing the Urban Trail, but started at the Centre, walked to Burnaby Lake to pick up the Trail at the Lake parking lot. Runners Rod, Gi-Nyun and Bob ran west from the Centre using the usual route, continued on from the Kensington Ice Arena to Willingdon Avenue via Frances Street and returned same way, 21.5 km, a lsd time of 2.44. The five enjoyed no precip, decent temperature, some cloud cover, ideal conditions for the run-walkers. Rod’s groin pull shows improvement, Gi-Nyun used muscles he did not know about, and Bobtoc, well, he felt his age. It’s OK; at least he feels something. The trio met Chris and Debra Nicol after her spinning classes; Debra in the costume of a Klondyke show girl for Hallowe’en. She looked excellent.
