Monday: Walkers Lynn and Al started from the Centre at 7:30 pm, walking to Government Road via the trail, then to Production Way to Government St. to Piper Avenue, then east on Lougheed Hwy to the Lake City Skytrain station, north into Lake City, east on a street therein back to Cameron Centre . Time, 1.02, distance, 7.1 km. The twosome enjoyed the cool temperature. Runners Val, RA Edie, Debra, Rod and Edie’s nephew Kyle ran the Stoney Creek trail, Rod and Edie running north on North, and met the others who ran the sylvan trail at the top (beyond Chapman Avenue) then all runners retraced their steps and returned to Cameron Centre. Time, 52 minutes, distance 6.6 km. The runners found the evening muggy. Cyclist Tracy passed the runners on her pennyfarthing bike at high speed, so fast she was not recognized by all the runners. Just kidding about the pennyfarthing.
Wednesday:The good news about Wednesday’s runs was Debra Nicol ran 10 hill repeats with Laurie Brookbank and the Poco Running Room Marathon clinic. The group used the daunting David St hill; time out, 2:01:18. The not-so-good news is that RA Edie, Larry, Norman, Rod and Bobtoc wimped out by doing a tempo run, using Eastlake, Production Way and Baxter Place using a fairly leisurely pace, then running fast pace from Underhill and Eastlake to the Burnaby Mountain Secondary School. Time, 41.15. The fearsome five felt drained from the outset by the heavy muggy atmosphere. Norman is still in pain from a very sore shoulder; painful at night, condition exacerbated by lifting patients at RCH.
Saturday: Eight Cruisers and friend of the Cruisers ran Saturday morning from Rocky Point. RA Edie and Larry ran to the church and Ioco Road intersection, 11.93 km, time 1.22. Norman, Rod and Bobtoc continued their run from that intersection, hung a right up the hill toward Belcarra Regional Park and Sasamat Lake, elected to take the Belcarra Park route which includes very steep hills and windy roads, increasing time per kilometer big time Norman and Rod ran past the second gate leading to the picnic area, Bobtoc turned around between the first and second gates, then the three, by this time met by Rick Davidson, ran back to Rocky Point to the pier to take in the view. Distances and times: Norman, 24 km due to his coming back and regrouping; Rod, 20 km; Bobtoc, 18.5; Rick, 20 miles or 32.25 km. Times for the first three, 2.40 or so; for Rick, longer since he started his run much earlier than the others. Walkers Lynn and Al started with the runners, continued into the Belcarra road, retraced their steps at the 8 km mark, covered 16.1 km in 2.19! The eight experienced showers most of the time, although they eased midway during the run/walks. The cooler temperature was welcomed.
