Norman in the “line up” at the Richmond Oval 8k Race. See report below.
Monday: Nine Cruisers met at the Centre for run or walk Monday evening which brought slight rain and cooler temperatures, the best night of the year. Lynn and Al, Adele, Rod and Tracy walked 30 minutes out and 30 back, total time 64 minutes, distance 6.35 k. Runners Alex Lau, Carla, Shiraz and Bobtoc ran 1.09, distance 9.5, destination and return the IGA corner. Before the outings, Lynn discussed the proposed berm between Highway 1 and the southernmost road-trail at Burnaby Lake park. The concensus of the group was positve to the berm when Highway 1 is widened.
Wednesday: Four Cruisers met at the Burnaby North Secondary School oval amid several CAUFC teams practising. RA Edie, Larry, Rod and Bobtoc showed up and walked, with Rod taking a few running laps, still in recovery mode from the Delta Half, Bob having gone through his annual procedure at Burnaby Hospital. Don’t ask. The four enjoyed gorgeous weather, not too hot, a gentle breeze. Might have been “the best night of the year”.
Saturday: Nine runners and walkers met at Rocky Point Saturday 7.30 am. Seven runners : RA Edie, Libby, Rick Davidson, Rod, Sharon, Shiraz and Bobtock ran from Rocky Point round the saltchuck to the top of the Ioco Townsite and return, 11.59 km, time 1.30. Walkers Lynn and Al walked 30 minus out and return, probably 6.5 km. The nine enjoyed cool temperature, humid conditions, overcast skies, but all in all relief from the heat experienced last week.
Sunday: Report from Norman A nice race at the Richmond Oval on August 16/09 0830. I finished in 37:58 8KM. Not one of my faster times but I was so tired from vacationing on the island. I stayed with my sister in Victoria Aug 13,14 then drove out on the 15th to Comox to visit my other sister who owns a coffee shop there. I took the last ferry from Nanaimo Departure Bay at 9:35PM and arrived home at 12:30 AM. I didn’t go to bed till 1:30 AM and woke up at 6:30 AM to get to race by 8:30AM.
I received a $25.00 GIFT CERTIFICATE for running 6 or more races in the inaugural lower mainland running series.
