The Nature House at Burnaby Lake – Cool Down Break

Monday July 20:
Nine runners and walkers showed up at the Centre on a hot steamy evening. Adele, RA Edie, Bella and April, Larry and Marybeth aka Tracy walked, and Cheryl Conn, friend Dee, Rod, Shiraz and Bobtoc ran from the Centre to North Road via the Stoney Creek trail, hung a left, walked or ran north to the Imperial Oil pumping station, hung another left, then a right, up the powerline trail, and ran or walked up to the first power tower, touched it, and returned. Time for the runners, 1.03; for the walkers, no record kept; distance for both, 7.5 km. Temperature at the end, 29C.
Wednesday July 22
On Wednesday, Rod, Shiraz and Edie ran from Cameron Centre along the Stony Creek Trail, where they were joined by Alex Lau. The foursome continued up the hill to the monstrous blue house then cut over to the trail and circled around back to North Road to return to Cameron via Stony Creek Trail. It was HOT! Time out was about 50 minutes for a distance of about 6k. Rod reminded us that what we did would not be considered running by Tracy, who was probably at home lying on the couch, drinking Bud and eating chips, like any sensible person would. Just kidding, we know Zinfandel is her beverage of choice.
Saturday: Rod, Edie, Carla, Shiraz and Rick met at Cameron Centre at 7 AM, trying to beat the heat for a long run. We ran from Cameron to Burnaby Lake, along the north trail, then Shiraz and Edie ran to Canada Way and returned via the same route for a distance of 16k in 2:10, while Rod, Carla and Rick continued to Deer Lake for a distance of 20k in 2:30. It was HOT by the time we finished but good to get at ‘er and get ‘er done. Rod’s all trained up for his Delta Half now along with his running buddies, if anyone would like to join him on August 9th.
