The Longest Day – Cruisers Galore – Notice the Budweiser Princess is drinking Heineken. Perfect evening for a run, good food, lots of free samples, good company. It doesn’t get any better than this! See the album for more pictures
On Friday June 12, 11 Cruisers and Poco “associates”, plus one athletic supporter (Anna Hilborn) had the pleasure of participating in the Longest Day Run at UBC. A gorgeous locale and truly spectacular weather (sunny but not too hot, with a slight breeze) set the scene as Christina, Debra, Tanya and Tyrone ran the 10K, Lynn and Al Field walked 10 K, Larry, Edie, Laurie and Ruby ran the 5K. But there was an additional Cruiser there, which was quite a pleasant surprise. The 10K run was halfway there and we had just cheered them on, when up walked a familiar face, but at first we didn’t believe it, but then she got closer and yes, it was her – Rachel, back from Turkey for a week! And to think of all places we’d meet her at a run – where else?! Rachel did the 5 K run and proved to not have lost a step.
The route started just off Mathews Field, went down Main Mall Road, around the Main Library, and back. The 10 K route went twice around this loop. Afterwards, there was great food (hamburgers, hot dogs, cookies, popcorn) and a beer garden, and most importantly a good time catching up with Rachel and the Poco gang.
