February 28

Edie is walking every day, sometimes with Alex, and on Friday walked with Bobtoc, keeping him moving.

From Bobtoc: On Friday Feb 26 on a no rain morning starting at 8.15,  Edie and Bob walked from his home, west to Howard Ave., south to Halifax Street, east to Cliff Avenue, north to  Napier Street, continued west, encountered a crew of City of Burnaby employees finishing up the leveling of a new pour of piece of sidewalk in front of a new house, talked to them for a short while, then continued west to Fell Avenue, turned south to Grant Street  then continued west to Holdom Ave, west on Grant to Howard Ave,  north back to Bob’s home.  The two enjoyed a no rain, relatively mild walk.  Distance and time,  5.5 km,  1hr 30m. respectively.

I did my usual jog on Wednesday evening of 5.5 km along the golf course route. On Saturday morning, Larry, Edie, and Alex started a walk from Cameron Centre and walked along the Stoney Creek trail, up North Road, up around the powerline trail on Burnaby Mountain, up the mountain trail to the entrance to Cardiac hill, then turned back because there was snow and ice on those trails, took the trail that runs parallel to North Road down to Stoney Creek, and back to the Centre, distance 10 km and time 2h15.  A good workout and decent weather!

From Eoin:  We have been constrained in our activities due to Lucky ripping her paw on glass. Took 3 weeks for the wound to heal and keeping her off the leg for most of each day…was not easy.  So we are now out walking each morning for an hour and half an hour in the evenings.  We use a variety of parks in Bby, NWest, Coq and PoCo.   Hi to all the gang.

From Jennel:  Heather & Jennel met last Monday morning and ran 3 laps of Town Centre, then ran home.  13 km for Heather, 16 km for Jennel.  However, we have been clocking on LOTS of km.  Now up to average of 50/55 km per week.  Preparing for our fun Virtual Half Marathon.  Leaning towards moving up our run date to March, but we’ll see.  We’re pretty much prepared.  However, a little more training is needed.  Jennel ran & walked 20 km on Monday and was a zombie all day Tuesday.  So the body isn’t used to all those kms yet.  Heather & Jennel ran again on Wednesday morning.   Then, Holy Moly Guacamole!  Heather & Jennel Ran far this Monday.  Heather 14 km & Jennel 17.32 km (I always have that lovely Parkway Blvd to go back up) 🙁 Anyhow, the ladies met at Town Centre and ran 3 laps, alternating directions to relieve the muscles.   Preparing for our Half Marathon……. Hopefully March 16th or 17th!?!  Weather pending!  Heard it might snow on the 14th or 15th…say it ain’t so ha ha, there’s still time for the forecast to change!

Edie continues to walk up a storm – walking every day, sometimes with Alex, and on Friday walked with Bobtoc.

From Bobtoc: Edie and Bobtoc on Saturday morning starting at 8:15 a.m., doing their Coldest Night walk.  They walked from his home on Heathdale Court west to Howard Avenue, south to Halifax Street, east to Cliff Avenue, north to the lane south of the Lochdale Elementary School grounds facing Aubrey Street, then north along a lane at the west side of the school leading to Charles Street, from there west on Charles Street to Fell Avenue, south to Grant Street, crossed to Holdom Avenue, continued Grant Street to Howard Avenue then east on Heathdale Court to finish at 5471.  Time and distance,  1h25 and 5.1 km respectively.  Weather:  +3, dry, sunny.  Both enjoyed it.

I did my usual jog on Wednesday evening of 5.5 km along the golf course route. On Saturday, Larry, Edie, Alex and Kevin did their Coldest Night walk, starting from the Cameron Centre and going along Beaverbrook, crossed the Gaglardi overpass, up and around the Forest Grove area, down Underhill to Eastlake, just like old times, distance 7.3 km in about 2h.

Len, Miriam, Flora and Debra Colville also walked a Coldest Night walk on Saturday, going 8 km from Cameron Centre to the Burnaby Lake Piper Spit area, watched the ducks, saw Trevor the mandarin duck, and also saw Susan doing a walk in the same general area.

Hoping everyone is staying safe and finding some ways to exercise.  Drop me a note if you’re up to something and want to report how you’re keeping active.

Hi everyone, here’s the latest news from the Cruisers:

Edie continues to walk up a storm – walking every day, sometimes with Alex, and on Friday again walked with Bobtoc for approximately 4.7 km.

I did not get out on my usual jog on Wednesday evening, but did get out on Saturday morning (yes, even in the snow!) for a jog along my usual route of 5.5 km along the Burnaby Mountain golf course, walked on Thursday quickly at lunchtime about 2 km, and saw Susan also walking along the same path on Arden, but going the opposite way.  Nice to see her and glad to report she is doing well.

Rod and Pat continue to walk nearly every day.  Kevin walked along the trails along Stoney Creek and Burnaby Mountain on Saturday and sent some pictures, one of which I enclose, which looks like a winter wonderland. Thanks for the awesome photos Kevin!  We’ll see about getting them on the website.

Len, Miriam and others in their group walked their Coldest Night of the Year walk on Feb 13, enjoying the snow on their trails.  Others are going to walk this Saturday, Feb 20.  Exactly who is not certain yet but I will report on that next week.

Others reported getting a workout doing some shovelling, including Larry, Bobtoc, Rod and Edie and no doubt others.

Hoping everyone is staying safe and finding some ways to exercise.  Drop me a note if you’re up to something and want to report how you’re keeping active.

Hi everyone, here’s the latest news from the Cruisers:

Edie is walking up a storm – walking every day, sometimes with Alex, and on Friday walked with Bobtoc for approximately 3.4 km, starting from his house and going along Parker St. to Willingdon and back.

I did my usual jog on Wednesday evening, 5.5 km along the usual golf course route, walked on Monday and Tuesday lunchtime about 3 km each time, and on Saturday walked/jogged about 10 km around the Burnaby Mountain trails, then down North Road and along the Stoney Creek trail, said hello to Norman and his wife who were walking their dog, continued on to Cameron Centre and through Lyndhurst elementary school.

Len, Miriam and others in the group are gearing up for the Coldest Night of the Year walk from Feb 13 to 20 – small distanced group walks over that week.  And it is supposed to be cold over this next week, we may get snowed on!  As Rod says, February never lets us off from winter!  No Mexico or Maui trips to get away to either.

Hoping everyone is staying safe and finding some ways to exercise.  Drop me a note if you’re up to something and want to report how you’re keeping active.

From Jennel – Heather & Jennel have been running together (but far apart),  Between 10-15 km three times a week, 16.58 km last Monday.  That’s keeping us busy and tired!  But we’re following a Half Marathon Training schedule.

Oh!?!  Heather called Jennel up the other day and said “Surprise!  I signed us both up for another half Marathon!”  It’s called “Wine About It Half Marathon!”   The medal is a wine glass with red wine inside the glass!  So of course Heather knew Jennel would love this run and would be in for sure!  “Early Birthday gift!”  What a nice friend!!!!  So this is also virtual, so we think we’ll run it sometime in April.

Other Cruisers are continuing to get out for walks and runs – Flora has been reported doing some cycling; Edie and Alex doing a walk at Burnaby Foreshore Park and Fraser River; Edie walking various routes every day since New Year’s, including Como Lake and Burnaby Lake with Kevin.  Rod and Pat are walking every day.  I have been walking on Saturdays, have seen Edie and Alex for 12 km walks; this past Saturday saw Norman and his wife, and then Ivan, all with their dogs walking on the Stoney Creek trail.  It was nice to catch up with all!  I’ve also been continuing my jogs on Wednesday evenings, 5.5 km and feeling good.

Hoping everyone is staying safe and finding some ways to exercise.  Drop me a note if you’re up to something and want to report how you’re keeping active during these strange times.
