As the provincial health guidelines now allow outdoor gatherings of up to 10 people, and interest expressed in re-starting our outings, the Cruisers are returning to a more normal existence. We will be mindful of distancing and can break into smaller groups based on people’s walk/run pace. We respect everyone’s different comfort levels with group activities during this time, so please use your discretion and keep in touch with us.
As the current situation of escalating Covid cases presents renewed challenges, there is a possibility that more restrictive guidelines could be issued at any time. We will comply with any new guidelines.

On Wednesday evening Rod, René, Larry, Kevin and Edie made their way along the Stoney Creek trail to North Road and returned. Larry and René jogged most of the way to North Road and half of the way back, doing a bobturn for the walkers a couple of times. There were not that many others out on the trail even though it was not raining.
Larry and René’s time was 48 minutes, 5.5 km distance. Rod, Kevin and Edie’s distance was 5 km and time 57 minutes.
Jennel and Heather ran/walked 13 km today and will be taking a break for some recovery time.
Let’s hope the vaccinations continue at a rapid pace!!!
Let me know if you have an adventure to share. Let’s be careful out there.

Drizzle and slightly colder weather greeted the Saturday morning gathering of Cruisers, as Edie, Rod, Larry, Kevin, Flora and Len walked/jogged along the Burnaby Lake trail to the nature house and Piper Spit. There was no sign of reported activity by the city removing whatever it was they had to remove from the lake, as the bird and duck area was open as usual, although there were not many of the waterfowl around. However, it was very peaceful! Len and Flora jogged there and back, their time 1h40, while Edie, Rod, Larry and Kevin walked, their time about 1h50 or so, distance for all about 7.5km
From Jennel: Heather & I have been researching virtual runs! We found a couple beauties! The 2021 “Besties” medals with a design of a couple of coffee cups with “Friends Forever” on the back. It’s technically only a 5km….but we’ll make it into a half marathon! “just for fun”. Then another one called “Best Wine Friends” 10km (which we could also make into a half marathon). Those medals are fun. Two wine glasses (one red and the other white with Best Wine Friends on the ribbon). So there’s a couple of fun adventures for us gals. No specific date on when we’re running those….we’ll keep you posted. In the mean time…..we’ll be staying safe and training socially distanced!!! Ciao for now:) Jennel.
Let’s hope the vaccinations continue at a rapid pace!
Let me know if you have an adventure to share. Above all, stay safe.

Another summer-like sunny Wednesday evening saw Rod, Larry, René, Flora, Edie and Kevin trying a different route (ah yes, change) starting from the Centre, down Beaverbrook to the Burnaby Mountain Secondary School, behind the school, north on Gaglardi Way to Broadway and up to the gravel trail that runs behind the Forest Grove townhouses on the way to Underhill. Edie, Rod, Kevin and Flora walked while Larry and René jogged on the way. Larry, René and Flora jogged back the same way, while Rod, Kevin and Edie walked a different route, exploring a trail that led to Centaurus Circle and down to the Stoney Creek trail by way of Stoney Creek Elementary School, where perfect timing resulted in them meeting the joggers at the intersection of the trail and Beaverbrook just before crossing Noel Drive and back to the Centre. Distance was about 7 km, time 1h20.
Let’s hope the vaccinations continue at a rapid pace!!!

On Saturday morning Kevin and Flora rode their bicycles out to Squint Lake Park and joined Rod, Edie and Larry as we walked, with Larry doing some jogging, to Bobtoc and Marie’s house to say hello. We walked along Halifax St. and Howard Ave. on the way, then returned to Squint Lake along Holdom to Frances St. and walked through Burnaby North High School, where the foundation has been poured for the new school buildings. We then continued along Georgia St. and through the paved walkway through to Duthie Ave., and trekked along Greystone to Phillips and back to the park. Distance was 7 km; time 1h40. Larry did more walking and jogging to the Cameron Centre area, adding 4 km to his distance. Kevin and Flora cycled home, adding more distance to their route.
All enjoyed the summer-like weather! Bobtoc is currently slowed by a muscle tear in his lower left leg which will take awhile to heal.
Let’s hope the vaccinations continue at a rapid pace!!!
Let me know if you have an adventure to share. Stay safe and strong everyone.

On a glorious sunny Wednesday evening (what a difference a week makes!), Rod, Larry, René, Flora, Alex and Angela walked and ran the Forest Grove route, going along Beaverbrook, crossing the Gaglardi overpass, up Forest Grove hill (it sure seemed steep), around to Underhill to Eastlake, and back to Cameron Centre. Rod walked/jogged with Larry and René up Forest Grove to the SFU Village townhouses, then he turned to walk back, already having walked 8 km with Pat earlier in the day!, while Larry and René continued their jog the rest of the way down Underhill, Eastlake etc. Alex, Angela and Flora walked the route and took a bit of an alternate route through some trails in the Forest Grove area, but continued along to Underhill to Eastlake and returned that way. Rod’s distance 6 km, time 56 minutes, Larry and René 7 km, time 58 minutes, and Alex, Angela and Flora at 7 km, time 1h30, with Angela arriving just ahead of the other two.
Let’s hope the vaccinations continue at a rapid pace!!!

Saturday morning saw Larry, Rod, Edie, Alex, Rick, René, Flora and Kevin trek to the Burnaby Lake nature house at Piper Spit on a sunny but chilly morning. Not that we’re complaining of course! René led the way running out to the nature house, with Rick and Larry jogging behind, then walked out to see the ducks, while the walkers caught up and joined them. Rick started on his way back, while Rod, Larry, René and Kevin walked a circular trail around west of the nature house and returned there, then Larry and René jogged back to the Centre, while the walkers continued back behind them. Rick’s estimated time was 1h20, René and Larry’s time 1h40, and the walkers, going at a good pace, 1h50.
Distances ranged from 8.5 km to 10 km. Rod walked with Pat later in the afternoon, distance 8 km, for a total of 18 km on the day!
Earlier in the week (Monday) Rod and Pat went out from their home and walked to Cariboo Dam and then up the freeway trail to the 5 km mark and then back home. Time out 1h45, distance 10 km.
Other Cruisers were out daily on various walks and hikes.
Let’s hope the vaccinations continue at a rapid pace!!!

From Edie: On a cool, beautiful Monday morning, Kevin, Alex, Rick, Edie and Shannon and her dog Cali met at Cameron. Rick and Alex opted to run to Hume Park while the others walked to North Road via Joe’s Trail. Not too busy and everything greening up. On the way back we chatted with Flora and Gillian who were doing a fine gardening job at the church and, as we left the trail, we met Glenn and Brenda who had been out for a run. They walked back to Cameron with us. Our time was 2h03 (waited for a long train) and distance almost 8 km. Rick and Alex’s Hume Park run distance was 10 km, time 1h40.
Edie continues her walking regimen every day so far this year!
Several Cruisers have now received their first Covid-19 vaccine shots, and other Cruisers are scheduled for this week. Let’s hope the vaccinations continue at a rapid pace!!!

April 4 – Happy Easter!
Happy Easter everyone!
From Bobtoc: On Friday morning at 8:15, Edie, Flora and Bobtoc met at and walked from his home on Heathdale Court west using neighbourhood streets, stopping at the Cafe Artigiano coffee shop on Hastings near Rosser Avenue to obtain coffee, and continued to Confederation Park to enjoy their coffees. The trio met Joe Turtle and Carla Castellani, who were with their walking-running group, and enjoyed talking with them. Our trio sat at a table near the walking track, enjoyed the scenery, then walked back to Bob’s home. Some rain, very little, sprinkled at Confed, but did not bother us. The outing, and visiting with Joe and Carla, were great.
On Saturday morning, Larry, Bobtoc, Rod, Edie, Kevin, Flora and Rick met at Cameron Centre and walked/ran along the Burnaby Lake trails to the Nature House at Piper Spit and returned the same way. Although there was a bit of drizzle, it did not bother the group at all. There were not many other walkers/runners on the trail, which was nice. Larry jogged with Rick to the Nature House and briefly on the way back, where the two met up again with the walkers who had split up into two groups. Rick walked a bit with the walkers, then resumed his jog back. Larry’s time was 1h05, Rick’s was 1h20, and the walkers 1h59 (all times approximate!) and the distance for all was 8 km.
Edie continues her walking regimen every day so far this year!

April 2
On Wednesday, Rod, Kevin and Larry walked the Stoney Creek trail, up North Road to Chapman, and returned the same way. Larry and Rod jogged a few metres at the top of North Road to Chapman. A pleasant evening, nice to have daylight again during the evening! Distance about 5 km, time just over 1 hour. René came out to say hi to the group, but did not walk with us due to a stiff back, but he is recovering.
Other Cruisers are getting out to walk, either in small groups or by themselves. Keep it up everyone! Stay safe and strong.
