On Wednesday evening, we welcomed Glenn and Brenda who came out for a walk with us. It was nice to see them again. They joined Larry, Susan, Kevin, Flora, Alex and René who walked or ran on a very warm evening (27 C). We all did the Stoney Creek trail as it was in the shade.
Flora used her new phone app and recorded her distance as 3.49 km and a time of 32 minutes (I think her distance was actually a bit more though, as she jogged the Creek trail to North Road and back). Alex and René ran the route and then up North Road to the entrance to the Burnaby Mountain trails and back down multiple times – Alex did it 2.67 times, the last time joining Susan and Kevin for the walk down North Road and back to the trail, his distance 6.1 km and time 1 hour.
René went up North Road 3 times then returned to the trail, his distance 6.2 km and time about 50 minutes. Walkers Kevin, Susan, Glenn, Brenda and Larry walked up North Road to Chapman once, then returned to the trail, their distance 5 km and time 1 hour.
Update from Jennel: Jennel finally went for a nice run. I ran down the Coquitlam Crunch, then over to Rocky Point along the trail in the trees & the SHADE! …all the way to Old Orchard Park and back. It was lovely! The only downside of the run was by the time I had to run up the crunch, the SUN was OUT, shining and blazing heat! But I rationed my 4 water bottles and made it home…running a few laps back & forth on my street to make it an even 15 km!!! Sorry you all missed out…..this was the best run of the year!!!! Jennel has also been doing some swimming with her children, a great activity in these hot weather times. $1 per person…..ya can’t beat that. 1.5 hours a day. Perfect for us! Good workout too! I do laps while the kids jump off the diving boards over & over again! LOL

On Wednesday evening, Rod, Larry, RA Edie, Susan, Flora, Ross, Alex and René walked the Stoney Creek trail to North Road. Rod, Edie, Susan and Ross walked back along the trail and continued to Rod’s backyard to see his teapot waterfall – an ingenious construction designed by Rod. Rod and Pat’s backyard also has a small pond waterfall, all supported by a water recycling system. René, Larry, Flora and Alex jogged up North Road just past Chapman, then returned along the trail and on to Rod’s to join the crew. The group then walked back to Cameron Centre via Lyndhurst, Willoughby, and through to Cameron, including Rod, so he could pick up his car. Time 1h10. Distance for Rod, Edie, Susan and Ross was 4 km, for Larry and René was 5 km, and for Flora and Alex was about 6 km as they did extra distance on the trail before going to Rod’s.

On Monday morning, Edie, Kevin, Alex, Susan and Flora met at Confederation Park and walked to Bobtoc’s house, picked up Bobtoc and Larry, and all walked around the local neighbourhood of Howard, Meadedale, laneway parallel to Holdom, doing two laps of the route, 2 km in a time of about 40 minutes. I don’t know the exact route taken by the walkers after that, but they said they were headed towards Delta Ave. They did, however, make it to Cafe Artigiano’s on Hastings near Rosser and enjoyed beverages at a table outside.

On Saturday morning Edie, Kevin, Alex, Flora, Larry, René, Miriam, Len (and Jax) met at Cameron Centre and walked to and along the trails at Burnaby Lake to the nature house and returned. Larry and René mostly ran the route, extending past the nature house, for a distance of 9.6 km and a time of 1h15. Larry then jogged back to meet some of the walkers on the way back. The walkers’ distance was about 8 km and times varied from 1h30 to 1h50. Miriam, Len and Jax walked back along the trail that goes under the overpass that we usually take to get from the bottom of Cameron to Eastlake – that trail is usually muddy but not so these days.

July 1 – Happy Canada Day
On Thursday morning (Canada Day) at the early-bird time of 7:15 a.m., Edie, Alex, Flora, Larry, and Edie’s friends Maureen, Greg and their dog, walked the trails at Mundy Park, mostly staying on the perimeter trail but also walking by the beautiful small lakes inside the park. Also along for a brief time were Laura, Eoin and canine Lucky. The weather was unexpectedly cloudy and much cooler than recent days, which was a bit of a relief. Distance 6.3 km, time 1h42. After the walk, we enjoyed coffee and scones prepared by Edie at a picnic table just inside the park. Thanks to Edie for the treats!
