September 30

On Wednesday evening, Larry, RA Edie, René, Kevin, Glenn, Brenda, Rod and Bobtoc braved the rain (which got really bad after our walk) and walked one of our usual fall and winter routes, along Beaverbrook to Eastlake to Underhill and returned.  Edie and Bobtoc turned around about three quarters of the way and stayed with the group, while Rod, glad to see him out for the first time in awhile recovering from injury, walked along Eastlake to Production Way and returned from there, his distance just under 4 km.

Distance for the group was 5 km and time ranged from 55 minutes to 1h08.   We noticed the early dusk for sure, but as René said, you can’t see the rain in the dark!

From Jennel:  Jennel ran the Coquitlam Crunch down to Port Moody and back Monday morning.  11 km …. NO RAIN!!! Yahoo!

Saturday morning was a beautiful sunny almost-summer day as the group met at Squint Lake parking lot.  Larry, RA Edie, Alex, Flora, and Barry Jones and his dog Bebe (I hope I got her name right!) attended, and we walked along some sidewalk routes behind Halifax St. apartment complexes, through Augusta Springs to Duthie, then along Halifax to Fell Ave., up to Winch St., up Holdom to Grant St., along Howard Ave. to Heathdale Court and picked up Bobtoc for a trip around the neighbourhood, going down Howard to Halifax.  Barry and Edie started their walk back along Halifax to Squint Lake, while the rest of the gang continued with Bobtoc, going up a steep hill on Holdom to Grant St., then continuing on Holdom to Parker St., Meadedale, Howard and Heathdale.  Bobtoc’s distance was over 2 km, time 49 minutes.  We bid adieu to Bobtoc and returned along Winch, Cliff Ave., Blaine, and Halifax streets to Squint Lake.

Distance was approximately 9 km and time 2h55.

Barry’s and Edie’s distance was approximately 7 km and time about 2 hours.

From Ivan: Saturday morning, Ivan set out to complete his 10th lululemon SeaWheeze Virtual Half Marathon. Leaving his home towards Burnaby Lake, going around the lake (including stops to check on the turtles) and then extending into Joe’s Trail, tackling Larry’s Hill and back to his home, making a lot of stops and walk breaks along the way and taking a few pictures. Distance 21.1K – time 2h 54m.

On Wednesday evening, Kevin, Brenda, Glenn, Alex, RA Edie and Larry walked the Stoney Creek trail and up North Road to Chapman, and returned to the Centre the same way. It was a sunny, first day of fall evening, and true to form, it was dark by the time we returned – the last evening trail walk/run. We’ll be using the streets from now on, with reflective jackets/trim and lights.

Distance for all, about 5 km, and time ranged from 55 minutes to 1h09.

From Jennel: Hi Everyone…..Sunday adventure – Well, I was planning on doing a short run down the Coquitlam Crunch, but then had a brilliant idea to take “this road” and run down to Rocky Point. I took Turner Creek down toward Rocky Point. (so I thought?)….but that road is NOT a straight road…I ended running around in loops it felt like…then I’d take a side road off of it and it was a dead end!?! So, I had to run back….But the run up those hills was HORRIBLE!!! 14.25 km…it was a Rigamarole Running adventure! …

Heather & I enjoyed a celebration dinner & Bellini’s at Milestones Monday late afternoon. We also incorporated a 10 km walk into it too! Aren’t we smart! We each walked from our homes to the corner of David & Johnson, then walked down Johnson to Barnet Hwy, to Milestones and had a bunch of Appetizers & Bellini’s! See, that makes running all those kilometres worth it!!! We also walked back to our homes, and yes, we did get hills! So double bonus!!! Thursday morning, Jennel & dogs ran down & up the Coquitlam Crunch. Only 8 km today. That was enough!!

Saturday morning gave us some relief from the rain, as Kevin, Len, Miriam, canine Jax, RA Edie and Larry tried a new route, heading along Willoughby, Lyndhurst, North Road, Como Lake Road to Clarke, along Glenayre to Westhill Park in Port Moody.  We met some friends of Edie’s who guided us through a tour of a small trail system inside the park, then we walked back using a different route, going along Glenayre to Glencoe, then taking a short cut through to the north end of North Road, and down North Road to the Stoney Creek trail and back to Cameron Centre.

Distance 10 km and time 2h40.

On Wednesday evening, Brenda, Glenn, Kevin, Larry, Alex and…the Bobster himself – Bobtoc made a return and walked with the group on its 4 km route along Stoney Creek trail to North Road and back to the Centre. We’ll see Bobtoc more often again. It was a nice sunny evening and although dusk is getting earlier and there was a bit of a fall chill in the air, we’ll enjoy the good weather as long as we have it.

Distance for all, 4 km and time about 55 minutes.

From Jennel: Hi Everyone…Heather & Jennel completed their 15 km “BEST WINE FRIENDS” Run on Wednesday. September 11 – Coho Run/Walk

On Saturday morning, it was a Cruiser field trip as Kevin, Flora, RA Edie, Larry, and Ivan took the skytrain to Science World and met Edie’s friends June and Maureen, and the group proceeded along the seawall of the south side of False Creek to Jericho Park beach, which is a beautiful park and beach, passing through Olympic Park and through to Kitsilano Beach Park and along Point Grey Road, doing a modified route for the Coho Run. Kevin, Flora, Edie, June and Maureen walked while Ivan and Larry ran most of the way, and Flora ran some of the route on the way back.

The group had fish and chips at Go Fish, a take-out place on the pier near First Ave. and Creekside Drive. Kevin, Flora, Edie, June and Maureen walked approximately 14 km, and time of 2h39 and a little more for Edie, June and Maureen as they walked back in a search for a beverage in a pub after our lunch, and then walked back to Science World, while Ivan, and then Larry, Kevin and Flora took a bus to the VCC/Clark skytrain station and took the skytrain home.

Distance and time for Ivan and Larry were 16 km and 2h39 respectively. There was a bit of rain at the end as we enjoyed our lunch, but it wasn’t heavy rain and we had fun anyway!

Check out photos of our trek below.

From Jennel: Hello everyone….just to let you know Heather & Jennel have been running or walking quite a bit this summer, together or individually….whatever worked. But now school’s back in, so routines are back on! So we met this morning at Town Centre and ran 2.5 laps and caught up! We have been prepping for our upcoming run on Wednesday and have been reporting our km to each other. So, we’re both ready for the 15 km Wine Run on Wednesday the 15th. We’ll take pictures and send in the FUN report afterwards!!!

Running – Wednesday, September 15th, down the Coquitlam River Trail @ “Wine o’clock” (our water-bottles may or may not be filled with water!?!) LOL 🙂 Good luck Jennel and Heather!
