No rain and a bit chilly (1C), but once we got moving it was okay on Saturday morning, as RA Edie, Flora, René, Alex, Kevin and Larry met at Cameron Centre and walked along the trail between Eastlake and Government, to Cariboo Road and along the Burnaby Lake trail to Piper Spit. The ducks were out in full force! The trails are in great shape too. Flora and René jogged most of the way.

Our distance was 8 km and the walkers’ time was 1h51. René and Flora’s time was 1h40. Photos below:

On Wednesday evening, Kevin, Glenn, Brenda and Larry walked from Cameron Centre along Beaverbrook, Eastlake, Underhill, Forest Grove Drive and across the Gaglardi overpass and back to the Centre on a great evening weather-wise (meaning not too cold and no precipitation!). Also, the fog went away so visibility was better than during the day. Our distance was about 7.2 km and time was 1h25.

From Jennel: Jennel hiked to the top of the Coquitlam Crunch with her dogs Wednesday morning, came down, dropped them off at home, then hiked down the stairs part of the Coquitlam Crunch down to Eagle Ridge Park and back up! 11.09 km. It was COLD and WOW – it was foggy! Felt like we were in the clouds. So the Crunch was a safe route away from all the cars!

Canada Men’s World Cup qualifier today against Honduras, 4:30 pm on Sportsnet Ontario or Sportsnet East. Go Canadian lads!!

On Monday evening, it was a great evening to be out – no rain and not too cold, as Kevin, Glenn, Brenda, RA Edie, Flora, René and Larry walked along Beaverbrook, Eastlake, Underhill, along Forest Grove Drive, Gaglardi overpass and back to Cameron Centre.  The fog rolled in as we completed our walk.

Our distance was 7.4 km and time was 1h28.

Jennel reports she ran 11 km on Monday morning.

Edie reports that the trail between Lougheed and Government St. will be closed, and Government St. itself will be closed between Horne and the trail, for pipeline construction for most of the next six months, although it is not stated exactly when this closure will start.  We might have to walk along Eastlake and down Production Way/Brighton Ave. to get to Burnaby Lake and Joe’s trails.

On Saturday morning, the Cruisers met at the Squint Lake parking lot. René, Alex, RA Edie, Len and Miriam, Flora and Larry walked along Greystone, crossed Duthie Ave., took the urban trail to Hastings St. and Cliff Ave., went past Westridge School, took the lane behind Kensington Plaza, crossed Kensington Ave. and went up Hammarskjold to Hastings, to Fell, Frances, Holdom, up the hill on Curtis by the pitch and putt golf course, down Curtis to Kensington, and back along the urban trail and Greystone to Squint Lake. We enjoyed that orange orb in the sky, I think it’s called sunshine (?) and mild temperature.

Distance was 9 km and our time was 1h51.

Our distance was 4.8 km and time was 1h05. Not many others out walking or running!

From Jennel: The Coquitlam Cruisers are BACK! On Wednesday Heather & Jennel met at Pinetree & David. We ran one lap of Town Centre, then ran to Walmart to pick up a few things. “hey, we’re still moving!. We make our runs fun!

On Saturday morning, the weather, road and trail conditions were much improved from earlier in the week as Kevin, RA Edie, René, Flora, Len (and Jax), and Larry walked from Cameron Centre along the Stoney Creek trail, up the mountain trail that runs parallel to North Road, and walked up the power line trail on Burnaby Mountain to the intersection of that trail and two others, then returned down the power line trail, North Road and Stoney Creek trail. We enjoyed the milder temperature and no rain, snow or sleet!

Distance was about 8 km and our time was 2h.

On Monday morning, Kevin, Glenn, Brenda, Edie, Flora and Larry met at Cameron Centre and started out on our walk, gingerly walking along Cameron and Beaverbrook to the Stoney Creek trail, but finding it covered in solid ice, backtracked to Noel Drive and walked along the road and sidewalks but also found that very icy. We reached the corner of Noel and Lyndhurst and decided to return to Cameron Centre before anyone slipped and fell, as no one wanted the Faller’s Trophy. So we returned, and just as we were entering the Centre’s parking lot, nature rewarded us by starting to rain heavily! It just seemed like it was not meant to be for us on this day but we gave it a good try.

Distance about 2.5 km, time about 45 minutes.

Rod is doing fine and says hi to the Cruisers, and looks forward to rejoining us soon, when the weather gets better.

From Jennel: The latest from the Coquitlam Cruisers! Well, Heather & Jennel are TROOPERS! They trekked in the rain, snow & black ice and still made a 9 km walk together and grabbed a cup of coffee! It is Heather’s birthday in a couple of days, so today we had a fun birthday walk. Not everyone’s cup of tea to be out walking in these conditions (LOTS of snow), but we had a great time. “We wore our snow boots and bright coloured clothing and found a good route to walk”. No slips, no injuries….Best Walk of the Year!!! LOL (They must have found a good route!)…….HAPPY BIRTHDAY HEATHER!!!!!

Saturday morning saw RA Edie, Larry, Flora, René, Kevin, Len (with Jax) and Miriam walk from the Centre along Cameron, along the trail between Eastlake and Government St., Government to Cariboo Road, into the Burnaby Lake trails to Piper Spit, and returned the same way.  It was packed down icy in places due to the morning cold, and near our return to Cameron Centre it started snowing, which looked beautiful.

The edges of Burnaby Lake had a sheet of ice on them, and René reported that earlier last week the lake was totally frozen overtop.

Distance 8.5 km and time 2h20.  Looking forward to some warmer weather!

Photo of the ducks feeding at the lake taken by Edie.  Also thanks to Flora and Len for their photos!

On Wednesday afternoon (before the evening snowstorm!) Larry, Alex, Kevin, Glenn, Brenda and RA Edie walked from the Centre down Cameron to Government St. and along to Cariboo Road and onto Joe’s trail and returned the same way. It was already a winter wonderland of snow but with no precipitation it was nice to be outside. The snow was packed down on the trail but it wasn’t slippery.

Distance was 8 km, time was 1h56.
