On Wednesday evening, Kevin, RA Edie, Brenda, Glenn, Alex and Larry walked along the Stoney Creek trail, turning back around 3/4 of the way for a distance of about 3 km, while Alex continued jogging up North Road to Chapman and turned around, his distance 5.5 km.
Time for the group was about 55 minutes. It was a pleasant spring evening of sunshine, trees blooming all over and the sounds of birds in the air. Great to be outside!
From Jennel: Heather ran 10 km today, ran 12 km the other day…etc.…she is very focused and keeps up with our running schedule! I’m (Jennel) jealous! It’s up & down with my back/hip problems. I’m not going to attempt any running yet.
However, I did walk around the block twice yesterday and seem to be ok. Anyhow, I’m on the mend. I am a determined gal (my day consists of the stretches & exercises the physiotherapist gave me)……. and I’m going to Whistler to do that run….even if Heather has to pull me in a wagon!!!! LOL. I can hold the wine!!! LOL

Her time about 1 hour for the Stoney Creek route, unknown for the prior route but estimated at about the same time.

On Saturday morning, RA Edie, Kevin, Alex, Len, Miriam (with Jax) and Larry met at Cameron Centre and walked along Willoughby up to Clarke Rd. and stopped at Bjornburn Bakery, where Edie, Kevin and Larry stopped and had coffee and refreshments, while Alex, Len and Miriam continued along Clarke into Coquitlam and returned to Cameron Centre, walking/running 5.91 km in a time of 1h27. Distance for Edie, Kevin and Larry was 2 km.
Flora ran with the running clinic at Christine Sinclair Centre and saw Giselle, who ran with the Cruisers years ago. Giselle is still running at 80 !
Congratulations to the Canadian men’s World Cup-bound soccer team!! They qualified for the World Cup today! After a tough 1-0 loss in Costa Rica on Thursday, the Canadian lads returned home to BMO Field in Toronto and defeated Jamaica 4-0 today and have now officially qualified for Qatar in November/December.
It is a great time for Canadian soccer with the Canadian women’s team winning a gold medal in the Olympics in Japan this past summer.

Today’s report courtesy of Kevin: On Wednesday night Edie, Glenn, Brenda, Alex, Flora and Kevin walked the Stoney Creek trail, up North Road to Chapman and back. Flora & Alex ran for most of the route. The trail was a bit muddy at the start from the rain earlier in the day, but it was a nice clear night to be out for a walk. Once on the trail you could really feel the air was cool but brisk.
The distance was 5 km and 1h01 according to Alex. We all enjoyed the spring weather and the longer daylight.
Thanks Kevin for the update!

Today’s report courtesy of Kevin: Edie, Alex, Glenn and Kevin walked 5.1 km based on Alex’s tracking App. Brenda & René we estimated walked 5.5 km since they did Bob turns a couple of times. We walked Cameron, Eastlake, Underhill to Broadway and back.
We were all saddened to see the trees removed by TMX construction on Eastlake. A loud speaker on a number of occasions declared we were trespassing on the fenced off property. Glenn in particular had a few choice words of his own when he heard that. 😀
(Note: the walkway is not fenced off so the Cruisers are not trespassing. Very annoying!)
Our time was 1h09.
The weather was cloudy and showers for the most part. But everyone chatting didn’t seem to be bothered.
Thanks Kevin for the update!

Saturday’s report from Kevin: At today’s walk we had Alex, Edie, Len & Miriam and myself. No Jax today, as he was recovering from yesterday’s outing. The group walked to Piper Spit at Burnaby Lake.We had a bit of clouds and showers when we started out, but it started to clear up when we arrived at the Spit. We looked for Trevor (the mandarin duck), but he was nowhere to be found. We all noticed the high water levels at the Lake and enjoyed watching the birds. We returned using the same route we normally take to Cariboo Road and back to Cameron Centre.
Distance was 7.65 km as a compromise between Alex & Len’s tracking apps. Time was 2 hrs.
Thanks Kevin for the update!
Meanwhile, Flora continued her training with the running clinic at Christine Sinclair Centre, running 9 km.

On a clear Wednesday evening, Brenda, Glenn, Alex and Kevin walked the Stoney Creek trail to North Road, up North Road to Chapman and returned back to the Centre.
Distance was about 4.8 km, time about 1 hour 3 minutes. With Alex’s distance 5.8 km, time 1 hour 16 minutes as a result of running around Cameron Park waiting for everyone to arrive.
As we were all admiring the moon, we spotted a familiar figure running at the entrance of the parking lot. To our surprise it was none other than Flora. She missed the group start by two minutes by her account 🙄. Brenda was quick to point out that I was to blame for not being as forgiving as say Larry is 😀.
Flora ran up Cameron to Eastlake hoping to meet up with the group and continued up Underhill to Forest Grove and back to the Centre. Flora’s distance was 7 km and time was 1 hour and 4 minutes. She is working hard toward her half marathon goal, which is great to see.
Hope to see Larry out with us again soon.
Kevin

Kevin, RA Edie, Brenda, Glenn and Larry used our brollies and braved the heavy rain on Monday night and walked the Beaverbrook, Eastlake to Underhill route. We had daylight for most of our walk even though it was overcast so that was a welcome change as spring approaches.
Our distance was 4 km and time was 1 hour.

On Saturday morning Kevin, René, and Larry walked the Stoney Creek trail to North Road and returned the same way. Although heavy rain was expected, it was only sprinkling as we started out, then stopped completely about halfway through our walk. Our distance was 4 km and our time was 56 minutes. On the way back along Beaverbrook, we saw Ivan drive by and waved hello to him. Meanwhile, Flora ran 8 km at her running clinic at Christine Sinclair Centre.
Update from Jennel: Heather has done a couple of 10 km runs on her own this week. Unfortunately, Jennel has injured her back somehow (I blame the dogs) and is unable to run right now. l am resting up because Heather and I are doing our Half Marathon in Whistler even if Heather has to pull me in a wagon!!!
Hopefully Jennel will be better by then!
(The back injury club now includes Jennel and Larry.)

On Saturday morning, Alex and Larry met at Christine Sinclair Centre (formerly Fortius Centre) and said hello to Flora as she joined her running clinic, then the two walkers walked along Joe Sakic Way and Sperling to the Burnaby Lake trails and onwards to the nature house and Piper spit. Lots of ducks out on a beautiful sunny morning! Then we returned to the Centre and had coffee with Flora.

From Jennel: On Friday Heather ran 10 km at Kits Beach. A great place for a run, especially in the sunshine!

On Wednesday evening, it was mild and there was no rain – the downpour ended before we met at Cameron – so conditions were good as RA Edie, Flora, Kevin, Brenda, Glenn and Larry walked the Forest Grove route by going along Beaverbrook to the Gaglardi overpass, up the big hill on Forest Grove and along to Underhill, down to Eastlake, back on Beaverbrook and back to Cameron Centre.
Our distance was 8 km, with Flora jogging about 10 km due to bobturns, and our time was 1h25.
From Jennel: On Monday, Heather & Jennel met at the corner of Pinetree & David, ran 2 laps of Town Centre before the rain started; then went separate ways. 13 km. We are in training mode now that we’re doing a half marathon:) On Wednesday, Jennel & Heather ran, 13 km for Jennel & 11 km for Heather. Good run…..Town Centre, then did some research on Running Swag for our Whistler Run!!! We’re going to make it fun! Half-corked half marathon!
