No hot Cancun sun either, but I’ll take the no rain! Nice to be home!!!
Thanks Ivan for your report of the Vancouver Sun Run, and congratulations to you and Alex – wow, you guys are obviously in great shape! So good to see in-person running events return!

April 24 – Vancouver Sun Run 10K
Today’s reports are from our many Cruiser staff reporters! Thanks to Edie, Flora, Ivan and Jennel !!
From RA Edie: On Saturday morning, Alex and I met at Cameron Centre. Alex came to help mentor (used to be called leaders) a half marathon training group for Sports Med. They were meeting at 8:30. They ran 8 km to the Burnaby Nature House and got back just before me.
I hung around with the group until 8:40 and then did Forest Grove backwards. (Went along Beaverbrook and up across the Gaglardi overpass.) I turned on Centaurus Circle and cut through Stoney Creek. Just over 8 km in 1h24.
This afternoon I did a 7 km walk to Como Lake, went around a few times and walked back home.
From Flora, Jumped into the half marathon clinic group as they were running 10 km. No problem u would think but no, a struggle today. Run for a 😋 ice mocha. 10 km run in 1h28.
Main message from clinic was- ‘Don’t be stupid’- Easy short runs with a lot of rest and sleep. The big run is next weekend!
From Jennel and the Coquitlam Cruisers: Hi Everyone! Jennel is Back! I tore some muscle in my back…was out a month. Heather was faithful to her training and trained non-stop rain or shine this past month! Jennel was walking bent over for weeks, many physio apts., then it started feeling MUCH better..was able to stand up straight (good sign!)…then said “life’s too short” let go on a vacation with my family. So we just got back from Cancun. Lovely….did water aerobics every day….back is feeling much better (I think the Pina Coladas helped too!?!).lol
Jennel jogged 4 km Friday, 7 km Saturday and walked 9 km (had to get home). So, all is well….this past month being injured reminded me how our health is SOOOOO important! So, our Whistler Half Marathon may look a little different …. but we’ll complete it one way or another. Heather says we’ll go whatever pace I can go! Such a great friend 🙂 Go Running Sistas!!
From Ivan: This morning Ivan went out to take part in the Vancouver Sun Run – together with over 20k other participants. This year’s route is slightly different than previous years. The race still has the Start line at West Georgia and Burrard Street and the Finish line by Plaza of Nations. From the start line, you go down Georgia and turn left on Demand to continue onto Beach ave and go over and across the Burrard Bridge, making a left on 5th Avenue and zig-zagging onto 6th, past Granville Island, and onto Quebec Street where you turn another left to end up at Beach Ave again, in front of the Plaza of Nations where the finish line awaited. Refreshments were being served inside the BC Place stadium.
To Ivan’s surprise, he ran into Alex at the post-race festivities – So, it is official, we can now say that Cruisers were representing the club at the Vancouver Sun Run 2022!!!
Unofficial time: 1h 03m for Ivan – 1h 13m for Alex

On Wednesday evening, Flora, Alex, Brenda, Glenn, RA Edie, Kevin, René and Larry met at Cameron Centre and walked the Stoney Creek trail to North Road and returned the same way, while Flora and Alex ran the trail up North Road to Chapman and returned as well. Distance for the walkers was 4 km and time 58 minutes, while Flora and Alex’s distance was 5 km and time was 52 minutes. It started to rain just as we were starting out, and of course the rain ended about 15 minutes after we finished. Our good luck with the weather was a bit off.
Also on Monday, several Cruisers walked/ran at Rocky Point. I believe that Flora, Alex, RA Edie, Kevin, Brenda and Glenn attended and walked to Alderside and Ioco Road, while runners Alex and Flora ran along Ioco Road to the old refinery near the “Pearly Gates” in Ioco, distance for the walkers about 10 km and for the runners about 12 km.

On Wednesday evening, Kevin, René, Glenn, Brenda and Larry walked along the Stoney Creek trail to North Road then returned along Rathburn Drive and back on the trail to Beaverbrook and back to Cameron Centre. The walkers’ distance was about 4 km and time was 56 minutes. Runners Flora and Alex ran along the Stoney Creek trail to North Road, then headed up North Road to the start of the Burnaby Mountain trails, then headed back on North Road and went along Chapman back and forth, then back down North Road and Stoney Creek trail and back to Cameron Centre.
Their distance 8.01 km and time 1h21. A few hills along that route so it was a good run. Thankfully we did not have Tuesday’s hail!

On Monday evening RA Edie, Kevin, Alex, Flora and Ross met Larry at Coronado Drive and walked to the Burnaby Mountain Golf Course, where the group walked through the trails surrounding the golf course, proceeding along a trail that runs parallel to the paved path along Arden Ave. and the trail later turned into the paved pathway which we took to its end at the crosswalk at Woodhurst Court, then we returned the same way. Our time was 1h08 and our distance was 4 km.
Alex jogged an additional 2 km before we walked. It was mostly sunny, a bit chilly but enjoyable being outside in the evening daylight. Larry thanks the gang for coming by.

Today’s report courtesy of Kevin: On Saturday morning Edie, Alex and Kevin met at Christine Sinclair Centre. We walked the overpass to Deer Lake. We walked counter clockwise the perimeter of the lake, since they no longer have directional signage. It was a nice clear morning, but the wind was brisk and reminded us it was still early spring. Everyone enjoyed the views of the lake and snow on the mountains.
Alex and I were curious about the number of canoes on the lake. We saw a notice on a car indicating it was a Beaver Canoe Club event. We made it back to the Centre and met Flora after her run clinic. We enjoyed coffee at the coffee shop within the Centre. It was very busy with customers.
Distance was 7.5 km, time was 1 hr 51 min.
Thanks to Kevin for the report!
