On Monday evening, Kevin, René, Millie and Larry met at Cameron Centre and walked along the Stoney Creek trail to North Road and returned, our distance 4 km and time 1 hour. It was still a bit coolish but hopefully this weather assists in lessening the wildfire risk later on this summer.
From Jennel: Jennel & dogs walked the Coquitlam crunch this Tuesday morning. The entire thing. Haven’t done that for a while. It’s quite lovely now that they’ve made one side up and one entire side down. I just walked it. 5 km this morning, then another 5 km walk this evening down Parkway Blvd and back up.

On Wednesday evening, RA Edie, Kevin, René and Denise, Brenda and Glenn, and Larry met at Coronado Drive and Phillips Ave. and walked along the golf course side of Phillips to the Burnaby Mountain golf course, and as it was overcast with a hint of sun at times and not raining, we were able to sit outside on the patio on the north side of the restaurant building and enjoy coffee or iced tea. Ivan and his canine Lulu also stopped by to say hello. It was good to see Ivan.
The group then walked back to Phillips and Coronado, walking a distance of about 2 km, our walking time about 25 minutes.

On Wednesday evening, it was a pleasant surprise to see some Cruisers we haven’t seen for awhile! Millie, Larry, Kevin, Alex, Brenda and Glenn started out on our usual route of Stoney Creek trail, and about a third of the way along the path to North Road, Eoin, Laura and their now full-grown canine Lucky caught up with us. We continued on with them to North Road then turned back, and on the way back we met Rod and Pat who were walking the other way along the trail, and we chatted with them for awhile before continuing on our way. All seem to be doing well. Eoin joked that it must have been club dues renewal night for everyone to turn out (no club dues were paid by anyone :))
Our distance was 4 km and our time was just over 1 hour.

On Monday evening, RA Edie, Kevin and Larry met at the parking lot of Larry’s complex and walked along Phillips to the Burnaby Mountain Golf Course and checked the restaurant renovation situation there. The restaurant is still under renovation, apparently until mid-July (? taking so long?) but is still open as one of the banquet rooms is being used for dining.
The three then returned the same way, distance about 2 km and time of under 1 hour. Meanwhile, Millie and Alex met at Cameron Centre and walked along Willoughby and North Road to the Stoney Creek trail then back to the Centre, their distance 4.33 km and time of 1h01.
Thanks to Alex and Edie for keeping in communication so we knew where everyone was!

Report from Kevin: On Saturday morning, Glenn, Edie and Kevin met at Cameron Centre. We said Hello to Alex and his running clinic participants as we walked the path from the parking lot to Noel Drive. It was an off and on again showers morning, along Noel to East Lake Park and the trail to Government. We decided at Cariboo Road to walk Joe’s trail. We felt it would be less busy with runners because of the wider trail. We made it to the gate at North Road, before we saw a group of runners spread out along the trail.
We made the return walk back to the Centre in 2 hours and walked 8 km.

On Wednesday evening Kevin, Millie, Glenn, Brenda, Alex, Flora and Larry met at Cameron and walked the Stoney Creek trail to North Road and returned, the walkers’ distance 4 km and time 1 hour. Flora jogged along the trail, then went up North Road to Chapman and came back along the trail, her distance 5 km and time also 1 hour. Alex ran about 3 km before the group met, and also ran with the group and ran the surrounding trails as well, his distance about 7.5 km and time 1h18. We ended our run/walk just as it started to spit rain, so our timing was perfect.
From Jennel: We DID IT! 21.25 km and beautiful weather, sunny, dry and no bears enroute (except on the golf course way far away!).
Congratulations Jennel and Heather, the “Running Sistas” on your Whistler run this morning!
Eoin and Laura say hi to all the Cruisers! (I saw them on Monday.)

On Monday evening, René, Kevin, Alex, Larry and Millie met at Cameron Centre and walked the Stoney Creek trail to North Road and returned the same way, while Alex ran the route plus ran 3 km before, running along Bartlett Court-Lougheed area, then while the group walked, he jogged the trails surrounding Stoney Creek elementary school, meeting up with the walkers just before we turned off the trail to Beaverbrook heading back to the Centre. Alex’s distance was about 7.5 km, and his time approximately 1h15. The walking group’s distance was 4 km and time 57 minutes. It was probably the best time of the day weather-wise as it wasn’t raining and the skies cleared up somewhat.
From Jennel: Heather and Jennel met at Town Centre and ran 1 lap of the outer perimeter, then a shorter lap around the inside. Distance 12 km. Last run before the big day up at Whistler!
At present there’s snow there and it snowed yesterday. The Sistas will be moving to keep warm!

May 8 – Happy Mother’s Day
On Saturday morning, Flora, Larry, René and Alex met at Cameron. While Alex waited for his 8:30 Sport Med BC group, Flora, Larry and René started their walk down Cameron and across the overpass and trail between Eastlake and Government St. to Cariboo Road and Joe’s trail, enjoying the early morning sun, although it is still a bit chilly for this time of year. Larry turned back at the highway overpass, his distance about 4.5 km and time just about 1 hour.
Flora and René continued along Joe’s trail to North Road and then returned to the Centre, their distance about 8 km and time about 1h25. René, who had run to Cameron from his home, also ran home, his total distance about 12 km. On their return, Flora and René also saw Alex again going past the New Life Church with the group he is mentoring in preparation for the Vancouver Half Marathon at the end of June. Good luck with your preparation Alex!
From Jennel: Heather & Jennel met on Friday morning and ran 2 laps around Town Centre. 12.33 km!!! Are we there yet!?! LOL So close now to your half, Running Sistas!
Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers in the Cruisers!

Wednesday evening saw Glenn, Brenda, Kevin, RA Edie, Alex and Larry walk the Stoney Creek trail to North Road and return, the walkers’ distance 4 km and time 54 minutes. Alex ran the trails around Stoney Creek elementary school and Beaverbrook, and he ran before the group met, and his distance was 7.4 km and time 1h10. As we returned to Cameron Centre, we met Flora, who stopped by to show off her medal from the BMO Half Marathon! It is a nice one and on one side showed 2022, and when flipped over those numbers became 50, which commemorates the 50th year of that marathon.
From Jennel: Heather & Jennel met at Town Centre on Wednesday and ran 2 laps, then back to our homes. Winding down and getting excited. We ran…..12/13 km I think.
Yes, the “Running Sistas” are getting set for their Whistler Half this coming week! All the best for a great run Jennel and Heather!

May 1 – BMO Half Marathon
Saturday Report from RA Edie: René, Flora and Edie met at Cameron Centre in the light rain on Saturday morning and walked to Piper’s Spit and back. All the trees were out in their beautiful spring colours, birds were singing and goslings were learning to swim. René told us about some of his marathon experiences. Amazing times! On the way back, we passed Alex’s clinic members who were doing a 10:1 10 km run. The Cruisers’ distance was 7.5 km – time 1h40. A great morning to enjoy nature.
From Jennel: Jennel ran 15 km Friday morning. A quick morning trot with the dogs, then dropped them off at home and headed down to Town Centre for a couple laps, then home (the long way) for extra km. 10s & 1s…..alright, maybe 10s & 2s or 3s!!! LOL, but I did it!!!! Then I walked another 1 km in the evening!
Congratulations!! to Flora and Rachel who ran the BMO Half Marathon together this morning, their unofficial time 3h09. Alex was there to cheer them on!
Also, last Monday RA Edie, Flora, Susan and Larry walked about 2 km along Phillips and Greystone. Larry thanks the gals for the walk.
Thank you Edie and Jennel for your reports.
