On Monday evening, it was chilly but clear and once we got moving it proved to be a nice evening to be out. Liane, Edie, Larry, Kevin, Alex, Flora, Glenn and Brenda made our way along Beaverbrook, the Gaglardi overpass, Forest Grove hill to Underhill and back along Eastlake, Beaverbrook and back to Cameron Centre. Flora and Alex jogged most of the way, and Larry jogged/shuffled up the hills, and everyone in the group bobturned back to keep the group together during the trek.
Alex’s distance was 8.5 km and his time was 1h37, as he jogged a bit before the group started out. Flora’s distance was 7.5 km and her time was 1h22. The rest of the group’s distance was 7 km and their time 1h25.
Best of luck to Alex who is running the Gunner Shaw Memorial Run on Saturday!

On Saturday morning we walked in three different cities! Not hard to do from Cameron Centre. Kevin, Larry, Flora and Edie started from the Centre in Burnaby and went along the Stoney Creek trail, up one of the trails at the base of Burnaby Mountain to the powerline trail, took another trail to upper North Road, went through a pathway between two houses on Garrow in Port Moody, walked down Garrow to Glencoe, down Glencoe and Ailsa Ave., through more pathways between houses on Ailsa Ave. which cut down to Chapman in Coquitlam, down North Road to Rathburn (now back in Burnaby), over to the Stoney Creek trail again and back to the Centre.
Our distance was about 10 km and our time was 1h57. It was cloudy but a pleasant day. Nice neighbourhood in Port Moody! Alex did a run in his neighbourhood.
Thanks to everyone that came to our group dinner on Wednesday at the Cactus Club! It was enjoyable and the food was great. See the pictures sent by Flora below.
For those who were unable to attend, hope to see you next time.
Canada at the World Cup: As expected, it has been a challenge for our men’s World Cup soccer team, losing 1-0 to Belgium and 4-1 to Croatia, so the lads will not advance to the next round, however they have another group-round game against Morocco on Thursday at 7:00 a.m. It’s a good experience for the young team to play at the top level.

On Monday evening it was a bit milder and no rain, so a good evening to be out as Kevin, Brenda, Glenn, Alex and Larry walked our usual Forest Grove route via Beaverbrook, Gaglardi overpass, up the Forest Grove hill and onwards down Underhill to Eastlake and back to Beaverbrook to the Centre.
Our distance was 7 km and time was about 1h25. Alex ran a 3 km route before our walk, going along Willoughby, North Road to Stoney Creek and returned to the Centre to join the group, estimated time of 20 to 25 minutes.

On Saturday morning it was a bit chilly but still a great day to get out. Larry, Edie, René and Debbie walked the Burnaby Lake trails to the nature house and took an interesting route on the way. As the trail between Eastlake and Government St. is now temporarily closed, we walked down Bartlett Court and the Lougheed Hwy underpass to Cardston and Keswick Park, through to Government St. As Government St. is temporarily closed at Horne, we went up Horne to Lougheed Hwy and walked along it to Brighton, then down to Government St. again and onto Cariboo Road and into the Burnaby Lake trails. At the nature house we went up Piper Ave. to Government Road and walked along to Brighton, then took Brighton/Production Way to Eastlake, and on Eastlake to Beaverbrook and back to the Centre. It is a shorter way using Eastlake and less traffic too.
Our total distance was 11 km and our time was 2h15. The Burnaby Lake trails are in excellent shape; they have recently been levelled and the gravel packed down.
From Jennel: Jennel did some cross training on Saturday afternoon. An HOUR of swimming while kids were taking swimming lessons. Gotta keep up with my 12 year old! No stopping!?! Yes, swimming can be an intense activity!!

Wednesday evening was mostly clear and cool and overall a great night to be out as Kevin, Liane, Larry, Brenda, Glenn, Alex, René and Flora walked our usual winter route along Beaverbrook, the Gaglardi overpass, up Forest Grove hill to Underhill, down to Eastlake and back along Beaverbrook. Our distance was 7 km and time 1h19 (we seem to be getting faster lately!).
From Jennel: Today Jennel ran two laps of Town Centre in Coquitlam and there and back to home, and did some interval training “Libby style” distance 12 km, then once back home took her two dogs out for a nice 2 km zip down Parkway Boulevard and back. A beauty of a day to be outside!

On Monday evening it was clear and cool and a great night to be out walking as Kevin, Liane, Larry, Brenda, Glenn and René walked along Beaverbrook, the Gaglardi overpass and up Forest Grove hill to Underhill, down to Eastlake and back along Beaverbrook as usual. It sure is lit up on Eastlake, in some areas it is as light as day. Our distance was 7 km and time 1h25.
From Jennel: Today Jennel ran down the Coquitlam Crunch to Barnet all the way past Williams where Barnet turns into North Road, then took the same route home. It seemed fast running down, but going back up was another story! LOL. Best run of the year as the weather was so nice and sunny!

On Saturday morning Liane, Larry, Flora, René, Debbie and Edie met at Rocky Point and walked along the shoreline trail to the halfway point and then up to the hatchery and watched the salmon, mostly chum of which there were some sizable ones, in the streams. We continued on to Alderside and onwards to Ioco and April Road, then returned the same way.
Liane and René’s time was about 1h45 while the rest of the group’s time was about 2 hours. It was a nice clear day, chilly and with fog rolling off the ocean water. Liane, Larry and Flora stopped for coffee at the creamery at the other (east) end of the parking lot – no one had ice cream!
From Jennel: Report for Wednesday…I’m BACK! This is my first official day of Training (even though I lost my running watch in our reno’s!) …I took my 2 dogs and ran 1 lap of the Town Centre (the complete outer part) and back home….which I know is 10 km. Sidewalks were clear, icy in a few spots, but mostly salted. Dropped dogs back at home, then continued my run westbound to Forest Parkway Blvd and UP & UP & UP, then the joys of running downhill to finish off another 5 km (approx?) 15 km in total! YEAH!!!! Beautiful sunny & crisp cold day! Best Run of the year!!!

Wednesday evening was chilly but no rain or snow so it was a great night to be out, as Edie, Debbie, Flora, Larry, Kevin, Glenn and Brenda walked our usual Forest Grove route along Beaverbrook, Gaglardi overpass, over the big Forest Grove hill and down Underhill to Eastlake and back to Cameron Centre via Beaverbrook and Cameron. Flora joined us on Beaverbrook as we made our way to the overpass.
Our distance was 7 km and our time was about 1h10.

Monday evening was cold but there was no snow for our walk so the group was fortunate! Kevin, Edie, Liane, Larry, Brenda, Glenn and René walked on Beaverbrook, the Gaglardi overpass, along the Forest Grove east hill, crossed at Production Way and followed it down to Eastlake and walked along to Beaverbrook and back to the Centre. Our distance was 5 km and our time was about 45 minutes, a quick walk but it turned out to be a nice evening to be out there for a bit.
From Jennel: I didn’t “run in Maui” this week. I did 45 min of laps in the pool at the Coquitlam Aquatic Centre! Not casually either…Sofia’s swim class was on one side of me and the Hyacks Swim team was on the other side. I had to keep moving! No casual swim for me! Now 45 min of laps is very comparable to a half marathon!!!

On Saturday morning Larry, Edie, Liane, Flora, Kevin and Debbie met at Cameron Centre and walked the Stoney Creek trail, up North Road to Chapman and returned the same way. Our time was extended as we watched the chum salmon spawn along the way, including a couple of areas where there were jumps that the salmon had to make to move further upstream. It was fascinating to see how they battled to get over the barriers – a wonder of nature. Also, we observed a heron looking for insects and/or salmon, and the smart salmon were hiding under rocks and moving back downstream to avoid the heron. Very interesting to see that! Check out the photos posted below.
Our distance was just over 5 km and our time was approximately 2 hours.
From Edie: Here are the photos I took from yesterday’s lovely walk. [The] heron [was] stalking the salmon. The salmon were moving back and hiding under the rocks

On Wednesday evening, which was a clear night but a bit chilly, Larry, Edie, Debbie, Liane, Alex, Kevin, Glenn and René walked along Beaverbrook, the Gaglardi overpass, Forest Grove up the big hill and onwards to Underhill, down to Eastlake, Beaverbrook and back to the Centre. Our distance was 7 km and our time was 1h25. Alex ran the route and added to his route from Underhill, going along Broadway to Arden Ave. by the golf course, then back to Underhill, rejoining the group at the Centre, his distance 8.5 km and his time about 1h25.
From Jennel: On Saturday Jennel “ran Maui!” Well, sort of. Jennel trained on a treadmill with a screen where different locales can be displayed, so Maui was chosen. She actually was at the Coquitlam Aquatic Centre – brand new equipment and almost nobody there! – while one of her daughters had a swim lesson. Great way to pass the time and better weather inside now too!
Also: A Cruiser social event is in the planning stage and details will be announced soon.
