On Wednesday evening Liane, Kevin and Larry walked along Beaverbrook, Gaglardi overpass, Forest Grove hill, Underhill, Eastlake, Beaverbrook back to Cameron Centre. It was colder than it has been recently, at -1 C and snow was falling although it was not sticking to the ground in most places, although parts of Forest Grove near the top of the hill did have a snow frosting on the ground. Our distance was 7.3 km and our time was 1h25. Flora stopped by at Cameron to say hi before we started our walk.
From Jennel: On Wednesday morning Jennel and Heather jogged 12 km – two laps of Town Centre then along Parkway Blvd hill. It was quite cold with some icy patches although no snow, but the two were okay, no falls.

On Monday morning Edie, Liane, Kevin, Larry, Laura, Eoin and their dog Lucky walked from Lions Park in Port Coquitlam to Pitt River Road using the Traboulay Poco Trail and returned the same way, distance about 10 km and time about 2 hours. The trail was good but the weather was unfortunately poor as it rained the whole way. We warmed up after with coffee and snacks at Matteo’s coffee house on Mary Hill Road near Elgin Ave. It was nice to see Laura and Eoin!
From Jennel: On Sunday Jennel did some cross-training at the pool, and saw Valerie Roy there, had a chat with her and saw Val’s kids. Valerie says hello to all the Cruisers!
On Tuesday morning, Jennel and her dogs took advantage of the sunny weather and ran 10 km from her house to Bert Flynn Park and ended up on April Road, a well-known area to the Cruisers. Best run of the year so far!!
From Flora: Flora was also out in the rain on Sunday, doing a hike at Burnaby Mountain with her friend Gillian, starting at the Velodrome, going up the 500 stairs and around the area which was slippery in the wet weather. Distance was 9.76 km and time was 2 hours.

On Saturday morning Kevin, Liane and Larry walked at Rocky Point, taking the paved trail on the way out to Alderside, then walked along Alderside to Ioco and April Road, then back using the gravel trail where possible. Distance 10 km, time 2h15. We had ice cream at the shop after. The weather was a bit drizzly out there but not too bad.
From Jennel: On Friday morning Jennel ran 9 km, as the snow that arrived on Thursday was gone, so she ran down the Coquitlam crunch over to Rocky Point and up Noons Creek/Falcon Drive – hill work all the way up! Did not feel like hills were her friends?!
From Flora: On Saturday morning Flora ran with the Fit First half marathon training group from Christine Sinclair Centre through the Burnaby Lake trails, Joe’s trail to North Road, and back, distance 14 km. Getting that distance up, way to go Flora!

On Monday evening Kevin, Brenda, Glenn, Alex, René, Flora and Larry were surprisingly fortunate to avoid the rain, except for a few sprinkles from time to time, as they set out on a course the Cruisers did regularly in years past, going on Beaverbrook, Eastlake, Underhill to Broadway (currently down to one-lane car traffic), and along Arden Ave. alongside the golf course. Walkers Kevin, Brenda, Glenn and Alex walked along Arden to Meadowood and returned the same way, their distance 7.7 km and time approximately 1h45, while runners Flora, René and Larry did interval training and went on Arden to Phillips at the Greystone shopping plaza, and also returned the same way, their distance 9.7 km and time approximately 1h38.
From Jennel: Also on Monday in the morning, Jennel and Heather ran two laps of Town Centre and did 10 km, also avoiding the rain, but Jennel wasn’t as fortunate later on when she took her dogs for a walk – they got soaked in the downpour!

On Saturday morning Liane, Larry, Kevin, René, Len and Edie met at Rocky Point and walked along the trail parallel to the shoreline for as long as we could, to the wooden boardwalk crossing which was closed as it needs to be rebuilt following the king tide in December, then walked on the sidewalk of Murray St. to the entrance to the paved trail, then back to the gravel trail to Alderson, along Alderson to Ioco Road, then returned back along Alderson and the paved trail to the pier. Kevin, Liane and Larry had ice cream and tried some new flavours.
Our walk distance was about 10 km, closer to 11 km for René and Liane who led the pack and did bobturns, and our time was 2h15.
Flora ran with the Fit First running training group at Christine Sinclair Community Centre and did a 12 km run, going along Kensington to Deer Lake, around Deer Lake, Royal Oak and Wayburne, and back along Deer Lake Parkway and Kensington to the Sinclair Centre. Her time was 1h38. Flora met up with a familiar face to some of the Cruisers – Carla Castellani!
From Jennel: On Friday Jennel ran 14.67 km at “party pace” then did the Coquitlam Crunch. Great training – consistent pace for the long distance!

On Wednesday evening it was a bit milder again (4 C) so a great night to be out, as Edie, Liane, Flora, René and Larry met at Cameron Centre and did the familiar Forest Grove route, going along Beaverbrook, Gaglardi overpass, Forest Grove hill, Underhill, Eastlake etc. back to the Centre. Edie and Liane walked while Flora, René and Larry jogged relaxed intervals (party pace!) and bobturned to stay in touch with the walkers, so we all finished the route at the same time.
