On Wednesday evening Kevin, Liane, Edie, Flora, René, Glenn, Brenda, Alex, and Larry walked along the Stoney Creek trail, up Jim’s Jungle trail to the powerline trail on Burnaby Mountain, then down via North Road, along Stoney Creek trail and back to the Centre. Distance about 6 km and time 1h17.

On Monday evening Kevin, Liane, Edie, Flora, René, Glenn, Brenda, Alex, and Larry walked on Beaverbrook, down to a trail below the street that leads to the playground at Stoney Creek elementary school, up to the Gaglardi overpass and the trails to upper Forest Grove Drive, crossed Forest Grove Drive and took the trail that goes behind Forest Grove elementary school, stopped at Cinnamon Court townhouse complex where there are a few small stores, and Flora ordered samosas and shared with the group (thanks Flora!). After our break we continued down Forest Grove Drive, recrossed the overpass and back to Cameron Centre.

Distance 7.5 km, time 1h25 not including our break. Alex ran about 3 km before joining us for our walk. It was almost dark by the time we returned to the Centre – a reminder that autumn is approaching.

On Saturday morning Kevin, Liane, Edie, Flora and Larry walked down the trail between Eastlake and Government St., along Government, Cariboo, and through Joe’s trail to North Road, then returned the same way. It was sunny and still cool with a hint of smoke in the air but better air quality than Friday.

Distance 7 km, time 1h47. Kevin’s secret apple tree(s) source had no apples, possibly due to bears or someone else discovering the trees 🙁

On Wednesday evening Kevin, Alex, Glenn, Brenda, Larry, Eoin, Laura and canine Lucky walked the Stoney Creek trail to North Road, then along Jim’s Jungle trail, flat route only, and back the same way. We appreciated the cooler temperature and it was great to catch up with Eoin and Laura. We kept an eye out for the blackberries and although there were some, they’re just about done for the year.

The group’s distance was 5 km and time 1h17. Alex’s distance was 8.3 km and time 1h47 as he jogged 3 km before we walked, running the trail to Government St. to Brighton, and Lougheed Hwy, and back to the Centre to join the group.

On Monday evening Liane, Nikita, Alex, Kevin, Brenda, Glenn, and Larry met at Cameron Centre and walked the Stoney Creek trail to North Road, then along Jim’s Jungle trail on the level portion – no hills easy route – then back to North Road, along Rathburn, back to Stoney Creek trail and the Centre. The air quality was better and dusk was setting in as we returned (sigh).

Our distance was 5 km and time was 1h13.

On Saturday morning Liane, Kevin, Larry, Flora and Edie met at Rocky Point and walked on the trail alongside the inlet, to the beach area near Alderside, where Flora walked ankle-deep into the water, then we continued along Alderside to Ioco Road and returned the same way, our distance 10 km and time 2h30.

We appreciated the cooler temperature and the cleaner air in the trails, as the air was a bit smoky unfortunately. Of course, some of the group had ice cream afterwards.

On Wednesday evening Alex, Kevin, Liane, Brenda, Glenn, and Larry took it easy in the heat and walked along the Stoney Creek trail to North Road, then continued on Jim’s Jungle trail, staying on the flat part, no hills, and then back to Cameron Centre the same way.  The entire route was in the shade which was noticeably cooler, thankfully.

Afterwards many of us went inside the Centre to take advantage of the air conditioning (yeah!!) which refreshed us.   Our distance was 5 km and our time was 1h11 – thanks Alex for the stats!

On Monday evening it was quite warm so Alex, Kevin, Shiraz, Nikita, Liane and Larry walked the Stoney Creek trail to North Road and returned to the Centre the same way, our distance 4 km and time 57 minutes.  The trail was shaded most of the way which made the walk a bit easier.  The blackberries are waning but we did manage to sample a few.  Take it easy if you’re exercising in the next few days and stay hydrated everyone.

On Saturday morning Kevin, Rick, Liane and Larry walked from Cameron Centre down the trail between Eastlake and Government St. to Burnaby Lake trail which we took to the Piper Spit and enjoyed the pier, then we returned the same way.

The weather was sunny and cool but by the end of our walk it was heating up.  Not many blackberries in the area – the bushes have been well picked!  Distance about 8.5 km, time 1h52.

From Len:  This morning Miriam and I did a 5 km walk and run called the Beautiful BC run that our friend invited us to join them on. The walk/run helps raise money for an orphanage that our friend’s son adopted a child from. It took me 32 minutes to do the run which was actually just a little over 4 km. Miriam wasn’t far behind walking with our friend but I’m not sure what her time was (maybe 50 minutes?).

I’ll let you know about next year’s run and maybe some other Cameron Cruisers can join us too. It was a very nice, very pleasant loop route in Tynehead Park in Surrey.

On Wednesday evening René, Brenda, Glenn, Kevin, Nikita, Flora and Larry walked along Beaverbrook, the Gaglardi overpass, Forest Grove Drive up and around to Underhill, down Underhill to Eastlake, to Beaverbrook and back to the Centre. The walk/run/bike path has been repaved and is now open on Eastlake, so now both sides of the street are accessible for walkers and runners. We stopped along the way to sample more blackberries – glad that they continue to ripen! The air was cooler and cleaner after the recent rain, very much appreciated. Distance 7 km, time 1h36.

On a pleasant Monday evening Shiraz and Nikita met at the Cameron Centre.  The two decided to walk the tried and tested route along Stoney Creek trail, passing Stoney Creek elementary school, the overpass and up the trail that goes into the Forest Grove area, up to Forest Grove Drive and down the Drive back to the Centre.  Distance 7 km and time 1h15. Stopped frequently to sample blackberries that now seem a bit sweeter than the week before.  Enjoyed the walk and conversation.

Thanks Shiraz for the report!

On Saturday morning Flora, Len with Jax, and Larry met at Cameron Centre and walked down the recently reopened trail between Eastlake and Government St. and proceeded to Joe’s trail.  We sampled more blackberries and found a few but along our route things looked quite picked over, although there were still some green ones which will be ready in a week or so.  It was a bit muggy out there due to a bit of smoke from the wildfires.  Still good to get out for a stretch!  Our distance was 6.2 km and time 1h43.

From Ivan:  Greetings from Barcelona, Spain. Today I wanted to have a quick run before leaving the city – my route started from a metro station close to the iconic “Parc Guell”, all downhill, with a quick visit to both the “Paseo de Gracia” and “La Rambla” – both touristy areas in Barcelona – Half way down the Rambla and back to the commuter train station of Plaza Catalunya to head back to where I was staying (but not before a quick trip to the beach). Distance: 5K, time: 34 minutes

On Wednesday evening Shiraz, Alex, Larry, Brenda and Glenn met at Cameron Centre and walked along Stoney Creek trail, cut through the trail that goes by Stoney Creek elementary school, went up and crossed the Gaglardi overpass, up the trail that goes into the Forest Grove area, up to Forest Grove Drive and walked down the Drive, crossed the overpass again, and you know the rest of the way back to the Centre.  Distance 7 km and time 1h25.

Meanwhile Alex jogged along the Stoney Creek trail, back to the Centre, then along Eastlake, where all the fencing has been removed and the walk/run/cycle path has been fully restored, then he went back again to the Centre, meeting the group.  His distance 7.66 km and time 1h09.

While the group was out walking, we munched on the ripening blackberries, taking Kevin’s advice to only pick the berries that came off the branch easily as they were the sweet ones, and for the most part that strategy worked!  Thank you Kevin for the advice and for doing the reports for last Saturday and Monday.
