On Wednesday evening, another great turnout as Liane, Brenda, Glenn, Nikita, Flora, Edie, Kevin, Alex, and Larry walked a “shades of the past” route from Beaverbrook, Gaglardi overpass, Forest Grove Drive up the big hill and along to Underhill, then down to Eastlake, Beaverbrook and back to Cameron Centre. It was dark by 7:20 pm!

The group distance was 7.2 km and time was 90 minutes. Alex jogged before joining the group, going about 2.5 km through the Sullivan Heights area and Lyndhurst Park, then on the way back at the end of our walk, he jogged down Cameron to Bell Ave. and back along Cameron St. to the Centre, rejoining the group, his total distance about 9.8 km.

On Monday evening Flora, Nikita, Brenda, Glenn, Shiraz, Kevin, and Larry walked along Beaverbrook, crossed the Gaglardi overpass, turned south on Forest Grove Drive and took the trails that run parallel to that road to Production Way, then down Production Way to Eastlake, headed east to Beaverbrook and back to Cameron Centre just as the sun was setting.

The temperature is definitely cooler out there as the sun sets. Our distance was 4.57 km and our time was 57 minutes, thanks Flora for the stats!

On Saturday morning Kevin, Liane, Edie, Flora, Flora’s friend Elaine, Barry and his dog Bebe, and Larry walked at Rocky Point along the trail and then Alderside to Ioco Road and returned the same way. Flora did some jogging along the route as well. The temperature was a bit cooler than it has been lately, at the start of our walk, but it did warm up later on. Our distance was 10 km and our time was 1h45. Coffee and ice cream were enjoyed after by all!

On Sunday several Cruisers walked the Terry Fox Run. Flora, Elaine, and Elaine’s father walked at Mundy Park in Coquitlam, while Alex, Edie and Larry walked at Central Park in Burnaby.

On Wednesday evening Liane, Alex, Flora, Kevin, Brenda, Glenn and Larry walked the Stoney Creek trail and Jim’s Jungle trail, up the powerline trail, down North Road and back on the Stoney Creek trail and back to Cameron Centre, quite likely our last weeknight trail walk for the season (sigh). But we can still use the trails on the weekends so not all is lost.

Our distance was 5.5 km and time 1h18. Alex jogged before joining us for our walk, going along Cameron, the trail to Government St., up Lougheed to the mall, then up and around Cameron Park before joining us in the Cameron Centre parking lot.

What a turnout on Monday evening! Edie, Flora, Liane, Alex, Kevin, Nikita, Brenda, Glenn, Shiraz and Larry walked the Stoney Creek trail, up Jim’s Jungle trail to the Burnaby Mountain power line trail, where we were warned by a couple with two dogs that the dogs smelled something, maybe a bear? but we didn’t see one although we were on the lookout. We took the powerline trail to North Road, went down North Road and took the Stoney Creek trail back to Cameron Centre.

Our distance was 5.5 km and time 1h13. Alex ran 2.5 km in about 20 minutes before joining us for the walk, doing a route around Lyndhurst elementary school and Willoughby Ave. then joined up with Flora at the entrance to Stoney Creek trail where they jogged to join the group partway along the trail. It got dusky around 7:30 pm so “the end is nigh” for our days of trail walking in the evening, sadly.

Edie and Larry were the twosome that walked on Saturday morning from Cameron Centre. We walked down the trail between Eastlake and Government St., then went along Cariboo Road to Joe’s trail and followed it to North Road, then returned the same way, our distance 7.5 km and time 1h45. The temperature was a bit cool at first but it warmed up quickly for a very pleasant day weather wise.

On Wednesday evening Liane, Alex, Glenn, Flora and Larry started our route walking along the Stoney Creek trail, but near the junction to the trail to Stoney Creek elementary school, we were advised by a passerby that there was a bear on the trail ahead of us. Sure enough, as we continued a few feet further, we saw a fairly large black bear lumbering down the trail, headed towards the creek. We detoured to the trail that leads to the school, then continued up Beaverbrook and crossed the Gaglardi overpass, went up the trail that runs sort of parallel to Forest Grove Drive to Production Way and Broadway, then went down Production Way to Eastlake and made our return on Eastlake to Beaverbrook.

As we crossed Noel Drive and made our way back to Cameron Centre, we saw the bear again, this time coming out of Cameron Park and crossing Beaverbrook heading towards the townhouse complex across the street. Photo of the bear below.

After much discussion we elected not to accept the bear into our group as we’re not that inclusive (ha ha).

Our distance was 4.5 km and our time was 1h05. Alex ran 2.5 km in 20 minutes before joining us for our walk, going along the Stoney Creek trail and looping around the school area. Thanks Alex for the stats.

It was noticeably cooler than it has been lately, autumn has arrived. Our distance was 6.5 km and our time 1h31, thank you Alex for the stats.
